Babies

...1) Introduction a. The “Babies” video showed us three different children. There was Ponijao from Namibia, Bayarjargal from Mongolia, and Mari from Tokyo. b. We meet the easygoing Ponijao, her mother and other members of her Himba tribe outside her family's dirt hut in Namibia. Curious Bayarjargal lives with his parents and siblings and a herd of cattle on their farm in remote Mongolia. Mari has a toy-filled existence in a small apartment with her parents in Tokyo. c. I was expecting more differences, because of the different cultural systems they were raised in, but I was struck by how similar their development was chronologically. This is, like, I think the theme is much more about the similarities than the differences. (Basically, all their basic needs, even like if the Namibian baby virtually doesn't have anything of what we consider comfort and like, wealth, they are like very rich according to the local standards, and they are very happy with their life.) ("Director Finds Parallels, Differences In 4 'Babies'") d. Director Thomas Balmes spent nearly two years traveling the globe to capture the early lives of Bayarjargal from Mongolia, Ponijao from Namibia, Mari from Japan and Hattie from the United States. The idea, he says, came to him five years ago from a French producer. "[He said], 'Why don't we do a wildlife documentary on babies?' Well, I said, 'What is this crazy idea?' And then the more I was thinking about it, the more I thought there could be......

The Names

...The Names ( revised ) This year is the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks: a tragic incident that impacts every aspect of the Americans’ lives. This year, there are many television programs and commemorations dedicated to the victims of the September 11 attacks. In the end of a television broadcast, Billy Collins— who was appointed United States Laureate for the years 2001-2003 in June 2001— narrated his poem: “The Names.” “The Names” was presented to the public at the first anniversary of the incident. This poem is about the people whom we lost, and the horrid day which we experienced. The first thing we notice in this poem is the names mentioned within the poem. The final count of the September 11 attacks was 2,749. It is impossible for the author to incorporate all of the names in one poem. He uses all 26 letters to symbolize the names of all the victims; he chooses one name to represent each letter. Here is an example: “I started with A, with Ackerman, as it happened, then Baxter and Calabro, Davis and Eberling, names falling into place as droplets fell through the dark.” Among all the victims, some people were unaccounted for. The author assigns the letter X to represent those missing people: “Let X stand, if it can, for the ones unfound.” During the September 11 attacks, posters and signs were made to show whom the families were looking for. The missing people were announced on TV and radio broadcasts. On each anniversary of the......

Names

...Names Ever since I was a little boy, I always remembered wondering how and why things were named what they are; also why/ how the words were formed. On long road trips/ vacations I would look at street signs and store names in foreign places and wonder why things were named as they were. A group of people I thought who put a lot of meaning into what they named things were the Native American Indians. All of the places, people, even animals they named were very symbolic, and had an important meaning. I feel as if in today’s world we don’t put as much thought into the things we name. Even when parents name their kids, some just slap a name on their forehead (not literally.) They don’t think about how they want their child to be raised, or they want them to become as an adult. My good friend was given a made up name when he was born because his father was drunk. To me that’s just cruel. For one thing, it would be rather hard for him to complete an essay like this, but also knowing your name which is a big part of you, has no real meaning. My name, Owen, was passed down 3 generations before me. I asked my father “why has our name been passed down this long? Why did you name me it?” he told me that his great grandfather was born into slavery and explained to me how he was not given a name until he was released and shipped to Jamaica. There, he was adopted at a young age into a family. The family said my great grandfather was a fighter; taking a lot of abuse and seeing a......

...counting on you, boy, while your sister and I are away. So is your mother. Now. One story, then. Listen, both of you, listen well. And don’t interrupt. Once upon a time, in the days when divs and jinns and giants roamed the land, there lived a farmer named Baba Ayub. He lived with his family in a little village by the name of Maidan Sabz. Because he had a large family to feed, Baba Ayub saw his days consumed by hard work. Every day, he laboured from dawn to sundown, ploughing his field and turning the soil and tending to his meagre Pistachio trees. At any given moment you could spot him in his field, bent at the waist, back as curved as the scythe he swung all day. His hands were always callused, and they often bled, and every night sleep stole him away no sooner than his cheek met the pillow. I will say that, in this regard, he was hardly alone. Life in Maidan Sabz was hard for all its inhabitants. There were other, more fortunate villages to the north, in the valleys, with fruit trees and flowers and pleasant air, and streams that ran with cold, clear water. But Maidan Sabz was a desolate place, and it didn’t resemble in the slightest the image that its name, Field of Green, would have you picture. It sat in a flat, dusty plain ringed by a chain of craggy mountains. The wind was hot, and blew dust in the eyes. Finding water was a daily struggle because the village wells, even the deep ones, often ran low. Yes, there was a river, but the villagers had to endure a......

...physical characteristics such as data transmission and error rates can be related to distance and that protocols can be optimized for an assumed operational environment. Convenience, however, may dictate use of certain protocols over a wider distance range than is optimum. From the OSI perspective, most of the protocols used in a LAN should be the same as ones used in a WAN context. Security-relevant LAN characteristics All data traffic is available to every node in the LAN zone. There is no routing or switching in the conventional sense; rather there is selection. There is routing and filtering among zones, provided by devices such as bridges and gateways. An adapter is required between the DTE and the LAN. This adapter goes by many names; in this essay, we shall call it the network interface unit (NIU). The NIU provides physical and logical conversions. For example, the voltages and ways of representing digital signals on the LAN are probably different from those used internal to the DTE. The first NIUs were external to the DTE. The NIU was connected to the DTE using the same standard that is used to connect to an external modem. External NIUs continue to be available. Efficiencies of space and power are achieved if the NIU is moved internal to the DTE. The NIU may be an internal board, whose interface is the backplane of the DTE, or it may be a chip on the main circuit board of the DTE. Every NIU has an address. When messages are inserted on the network, the address of......

By extending your service contract, you can continue to enjoy top-notch performance from your equipment. Finally, keep in mind that credibility can take days, months, or even years to establish— and it can be wiped out in an instant. An occasional mistake or letdown is usually forgiven, but major lapses in honesty or integrity can destroy your reputation. On the other hand, when you do establish credibility, communication becomes much easier because you no longer have to spend time and energy convincing people that you are a trustworthy source of information and ideas. Projecting Your Company’s Image When you communicate with outsiders, on even the most routine matter, you serve as the spokesperson for your organization. The impression you make can enhance or damage the reputation of the entire company. Consequently, the interests and preferred communication style of your company must take precedence over your own views and personal communication style. Many organizations have specific communication guidelines that show everything from the correct use of the company name to preferred abbreviations and other grammatical details. Specifying a desired style of communication is more difficult, however. Observe more experienced colleagues to see how they communicate, and never hesitate to ask for......

...high school and was going to help me get a car. But it was sure to be awkward with Charlie. Neither of us was what anyone would call verbose, and I didn't know what there was to say regardless. I knew he was more than a little confused by my decision — like my mother before me, I hadn't made a secret of my distaste for Forks. When I landed in Port Angeles, it was raining. I didn't see it as an omen — just unavoidable. I'd already said my goodbyes to the sun. Charlie was waiting for me with the cruiser. This I was expecting, too. Charlie is Police Chief Swan to the good people of Forks. My primary motivation behind buying a car, despite the scarcity of my funds, was that I refused to be driven around town in a car with red and blue lights on top. Nothing slows down traffic like a cop. Charlie gave me an awkward, one-armed hug when I stumbled my way off the plane. "It's good to see you, Bells," he said, smiling as he automatically caught and steadied me. "You haven't changed much. How's Renée?" "Mom's fine. It's good to see you, too, Dad." I wasn't allowed to call him Charlie to his face. I had only a few bags. Most of my Arizona clothes were too permeable for Washington. My mom and I had pooled our resources to supplement my winter wardrobe, but it was still scanty. It all fit easily into the trunk of the cruiser. "I found a good car for you, really cheap," he announced when we were strapped in. "What kind of car?" I was suspicious of the way he said "good car for you" as......

...diaper fun and simple for you and your baby. Your first diaper change can often be a big source of dread, fear and humor for new parents. The thing you need to remember is that is right way to change a diaper. Here are a few suggested steps to get you started .First use things first you need to be prepared. Before you start you need to grab your supplies that means clean diapers, wipes, and wet cloths. If your baby has sensitive skin make sure you use lukewarm water and guaze. If your baby has a lot of diaper rash it is best to keep a lot of diaper rash cream or petroleum jelly on hand Here is something to remember never leave your baby unattended not even for a second. You need to wash your hands before and after each diaper change. Then you open up the clean diaper and place the back half with the tabs on both side under the baby, next you unfasten the tabs on the dirty diaper, fold them over to prevent the tabs from sticking to the baby. Remove the front of the dirty diaper if you are dealing with a boy you might want to have any extra diaper or clean cloth to cover the baby’s penis so he doesn’t pee on you. If the baby has pooped use the front part of the diaper to clean the bulk of the poop off the baby’s bottom. Make sure that you let your baby’s skin air dry to prevent diaper rash, or you may apply rash cream or petroleum tump until it falls offjelly. After that your baby is ready for a new diaper. Remember if the baby is newborn don’t cover the......

Baby

..."You are going to have a baby" seven words that changed my life. On April 14th, I woke up and didn't want to go to school because I wasn't feeling well. My mom came into my room and asked me if I was going to get out of bed and go to school. I told her that I needed to go to the doctor. "Why, are you sick?" she asked. "No, I think I'm pregnant." We both just sat there and cried together. I knew then what I should not have done that night. A baby would take up all my time, the time that I needed to grow up myself. I got up, dressed myself, and didn't bother putting any make-up on because I knew I would probably be crying. We went into the doctor's office and found out that I was a little over three months pregnant. When the nurse said those seven words, I started to cry. I looked over at my mom and she had tears in her eyes. I didn't know what to think. I wanted it to be a dream, that I would wake up from and everything would be okay. We then listened to the heartbeat, which was really fast. It was really neat and it made us cry some more. The nurses asked me a whole bunch of questions, gave me on some prenatal pills to sample, and then told me to schedule an appointment to come back sometime next week. They acted like it was no big deal. Well, it was, didn't they realize that I was only seventeen years old, a senior, and not even out of high school yet. I could no longer be the carefree cheerleader, who had fun with her friends every weekend, and played beach......

Top of the Lake

...Top of the Lake – English Essay Top of the Lake is an English crime series in 7 episodes. The series takes place in New Zealand, in a beautiful area, with green grass and a lot of mountains. The main character is the detective Robin Griffin, who is played by the famous actor Elisabeth Moss. In my analysis I will interpret the first episode of the crime series Top of the Lake. Top of the Lake is about detective Robin Griffin, who is visiting from Sydney, Australia, to New Zealand for two to three weeks. One day she gets a phone call, and needs to investigate the pregnancy of the 12 years old Tui. Robin is a determined woman, who knows how to handle a case like this since she is a specialist in abuse. She devotes herself to her work, and often she has no time for her family. Matt Mitcham is portrayed as a culprit, because he treats other people terrible. He is the father of Tui, and he is a very angry person, who cannot tolerate if things don’t go his way. He wants to be in control of the whole lake area. He has two sons who help him try to control the area. But it is hard for him, after Bob Platt sold Paradise to some women. GJ is the leader of this women´s group, who takes ownership of Paradise: “I thought it would be just the two of us. However now we are six women, with a container each and a mattress”. Paradise is a beautiful place, with lake view. Six women are living together, with different kind of pain: “They come from abused marriage, broken hearts, sex addicts...

...and similarities of four babies’ childhood from four different locations. Among these four babies, two babies are from urban area, Mari from Tokoyo, Japan and Hattie from San Francisco. Where other two babies are from rural area, Ponijao is from Opuwo, Namibia and baby boy Bayar is from Bayanchandmani, Mongolia. This assignment will presents below four main differences between rural and urban area babies experiences in their childhood: sanitation and safety, feeding and bathing, toys and play and family structure. Firstly, one of main concern between all these four babies is about sanitation and safety. Ponijao and Bayar were growing up within an uneducated society, where Safety and security is less concern and children play with animals and insects. Babies from rural area usually feed with unhealthy food; they don’t have stronger medication system to improve babies’ health conditions. The main goal of babies in rural area is to join their society and do same work their family do, nothing extra. On other side, Mari and Hattie both were grown up in urban cities and regularly checked by doctors and stronger medication system. Society in urban area always more concern about safety and security of babies in terms of foods, medical system. Secondly, food is a main part of everyone’s life and it is essential for everyone’s health. New born babies get their food directly from their mother and it is very important to consider their mother’s health for babies’ feeding because many......

Babies

...beautiful babies: Ponijao from Namibia, Mari from Tokyo, Bayar from Mongolia and Hattie from San Francisco. All four babies are surrounded by different macrosystems but display similar developmental patterns regardless of their upbringing. All these children still must go through the same developmental milestones. In the first year of life babies undergo dramatic changes, many of these are observed in this film. All four babies are living in their own microsystems, each very different from one another.
