Thesis statement: Research shows that breastfeeding is the best choice over formula because breastfeeding provides the infant with essential nutrients, helps with recovery from childbirth, and protects the infant against a number of chronic conditions.

Baumgartel, K. L., & Spatz, D. L. (2013). WIC (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children): Policy versus practice regarding breastfeeding. Nursing Outlook, 61(6). 10.1016/j.outlook.2013.05.010
This article addresses the discrepancy of policy versus practice in the government subsidized program WIC. This article shows how even though the program is meant to support at risk mothers in breastfeeding, the numbers prove that a majority of their budget is spent on formula expenses. Very little of the budget is actually allocated to breastfeeding initiatives. The American Academy of Nursing members create and execute policy related initiatives to reform the American Health system. The academy has more than 2,400 members and is the established leaders in practice and research. They are advocates in healthcare policy making in Washington DC. This source will be relevant to the research paper because it will provide examples of the lack of funding for education and for initiatives for breastfeeding awareness and support, especially for the at risk population.

This journal will address one of the chronic conditions in the thesis. In this study it was found that there are differences in body fat composition between exclusivity breastfed infants and exclusively formula fed infants. This may link obesity…...

Understanding Thesis Statements

...A Thesis statement: • Tells the reader how you will interpret the significance of the subject matter under discussion. • • Is a road map for the paper; in other words, it tells the reader what to expect from the rest of the paper. • • Directly answers the question asked of you. A thesis is an interpretation of a question or subject, not the subject itself. The subject, or topic, of an essay might be World War II or Moby Dick; a thesis must then offer a way to understand the war or the novel. • • Makes a claim that others might dispute. • • Is usually a single sentence somewhere in your first paragraph that presents your argument to the reader. The rest of the paper, the body of the essay, gathers and organizes evidence that will persuade the reader of the logic of your interpretation. • • • It states the essay's subject -- the topic that you are discussing. • • It reflects the essay's purpose -- either to give your readers information or to persuade your readers to agree with you. • • It includes a focus -- your assertion that conveys your point of view. • • It uses specific language -- avoids vague words and generalizations. • • It may (but doesn't have to) state the major subdivisions of the essay's topic. WHAT TO AVOID Don't Simply State a Fact with your Thesis Statement Last year saw a decrease in the number of "bad girl" roles in Hollywood. WHAT TO DO Try......

Thesis Statement

...The thesis statement that I have come up with for my “big idea” topic is: I believe we can better our economy by changing the way the government assists the citizens financially with programs such as food stamps, otherwise known as EBT. The government shapes society and the government needs to help society help themselves by making a few changes to the way it disburses our tax money. I think this thesis is going to be effective because it shows my main focus of the essay I will be writing, which is to change the way government assists families of low income. I want to stress the option of giving more money as school grants rather than giving it for food. Another option would also be limiting the options of foods that are okay to purchase with EBT. Right now, there are no limitation other than alcohol or pre-prepared foods. You can even purchase energy drinks at the moment. If people weren’t given everything for doing nothing, they may be more likely to further their education and get a better job to provide such luxuries as fatty foods or sweets and energy drinks. I see a major problem supporting this thesis with fallacy, mainly because I have such strong personal opinions. I am going to have to force myself to rely on straight facts and pure research to get my point across. For my research, I am going to stray away from any sort of blogs or websites put up as a riot against the government. I will do my best to find websites that are “.org” or .gov”. I think a......

Thesis Statement

...How To Write a Thesis Statement What is a Thesis Statement? Almost all of us—even if we don’t do it consciously—look early in an essay for a one- or two-sentence condensation of the argument or analysis that is to follow. We refer to that condensation as a thesis statement. Why Should Your Essay Contain a Thesis Statement? to test your ideas by distilling them into a sentence or two to better organize and develop your argument to provide your reader with a “guide” to your argument In general, your thesis statement will accomplish these goals if you think of the thesis as the answer to the question your paper explores. How Can You Write a Good Thesis Statement? Here are some helpful hints to get you started. You can either scroll down or select a link to a specific topic. How to Generate a Thesis Statement if the Topic is Assigned How to Generate a Thesis Statement if the Topic is not Assigned How to Tell a Strong Thesis Statement from a Weak One How to Generate a Thesis Statement if the Topic is Assigned Almost all assignments, no matter how complicated, can be reduced to a single question. Your first step, then, is to distill the assignment into a specific question. For example, if your assignment is, “Write a report to the local school board explaining the potential benefits of using computers in a fourth-grade class,” turn the request into a question like, “What are the potential benefits of using computers in a fourth-grade class?” After you’ve chosen......

Breastfeeding

...Breastfeeding If a mother is reluctant to breastfeed her baby, the first thing to do is to talk with the mother to determine the reason for her reluctance. Once the reason is determined, we can educate the mother about the ways to resolve her concerns and provide resources and support groups that can assist her. Many women see breastfeeding as painful. This is due to the possibility of sore or cracked nipples, breast engorgement, blocked ducts or mastitis. Other women are afraid to breastfeed because they believe they will not produce enough milk (Breastfeeding Overview, 2013). If a mother is worried about not giving the baby enough milk, we have to provide her with the cues to look for, that will tell her that the child is getting enough milk. According to webmd, a baby who is wetting six to eight diapers a day is most likely getting enough milk. Some women mistakenly think they can't breastfeed if they have small breasts. But small-breasted women can make milk just as well as large-breasted women. Good nutrition, plenty of rest, and staying well hydrated all help, too (Breastfeeding Overview, 2013). If the mother does not have specific reason but is just unsure about breast feeding, we can educate her about the benefits of breast feeding to both the mother and baby. Webmd list the benefits babies receive from breast feeding as follows: “Breast milk provides a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein, and fat -- everything a baby needs to grow. It's is provided in......

...Thesis Problem Statement Andrew J. Napierala Advisor: Mark Frascatore February 2000 Assistant Professor, Faculty of Economics and Finance The United States of America v. Microsoft Corporation Topic: My Honors Program thesis project will deal with “The United States of America v. Microsoft Corporation.” In this ongoing anti-trust case, the Justice Department and 19 States Attorneys' General are alleging that the company is guilty of monopolistic and anti-competitive trade practices that are detrimental to industry competitors and consumers. Microsoft contends that it has fostered innovation and competition and has not engaged in monopolistic practices. Over the course of this project, I will examine the historical and current applications of anti-trust law and utilize these laws to develop an analysis of the Microsoft case. Rationale: The history of Anti-Trust litigation in the United States features several groundbreaking cases that have contributed to our current competitive environment. Without a doubt, the ongoing Microsoft anti-trust trial is the most relevant and challenging exercise of anti-trust law in decades. I find the Microsoft anti-trust case to be an outstanding thesis topic for a variety of reasons. As a future law school student, I am intrigued by the complex applications of anti- trust law and the existing jurisprudence with regard to such cases. Most experts would agree that recent developments involving computing technology and......
