There are times where the conditions of a marriage can leave the people implicated in it feeling unfilled and unloved. These feelings can direct people to make dreadful choices. The biggest of them all adultery, which can have dramatic effects on the people involved. It can make the adulterous partner feel guilty and often lead to an overpowering confusion. There is a controversy in what makes a person do what he or she does, nature versus nurture. When it comes down to it people automatically see nature as being what environmentally influences them, and nurture as the way they are taught to feel and think about things. In the battle between nature and nurture “It is nature that wins”. The short story “The lady with the Pet dog” by Joyce Carol Oates illiterates it. The short story starts with a woman named Anna, who is at an event with her husband when she sees a man in the crowd and suddenly is anxious and in distress about it. She goes home her mind passes over him while she is with her husband and it is made apparent that the man she saw was at one time her lover. The author describes Anna and her husband laying there when she closes her eyes and thinks about the other man. “always this hot flashing of shame between them, the shame of her husband’s near failure, the clumsiness of his love” (771) she is unhappy in the marriage as she feels nothing towards the husband as he caresses her .the story then flashes back to several months prior. This time Anna is in Nantucket Were she met her lover at the beach. She was always alone until the man with the blind son and the dog came and started a conversation with her, the nature of a man seeing a lonely woman is to go and talk to her and this is what the lover…...

A Dog for a Pet

...A multi-purpose pet I wanted to inform you that I am planning to adopt a pet in the near future. I’ve considered the various pets available for adoption and have come to the conclusion that adopting a dog would be the best choice for both you and me. I will explain a few of the reasons that I feel adopting a dog is our best choice; Dogs are very loyal to humans, they teach children responsibility, and will help protect our family and homes from criminals. The loyalty of a dog is unsurpassed by any other type of pet. Dogs are often referred to as, “Man’s best friend.” Throughout the world, dogs are used to help people with disabilities, assist police in dangerous law enforcement, and provide companionship to patients recovering from serious health issues. Dogs continuously display their loyalty to humans. As a child, I remember spending hours on end with my dog, Rango. No matter how down or lonely I may have been at times, Rango was always willing and available to play with me. He was my dog and I was responsible for making sure that he was properly fed and well taken care of. Looking back, I realize the sense of responsibility that I gained from having a dog. Now, as a Father, I would like for my children to have a dog, so that they too can learn to be responsible during their childhood. There are few feelings greater than knowing that your family and home are safe. A dog’s natural instincts make them great “security guards”. Their sense of smell and hearing are...

The Lady with a Pet Dog

...Christina Diaz Due Monday 24, 2013 Rough Draft People spend their lives searching for happiness. Some find happiness in the company of family or friends. Other people find happiness in material possesions. And many others consider finding true love the ultimate happiness. Everyone is on their spiritual quest to find it, and sometimes, when they find happiness they do not know how to handle it. In Anton Chekov’s short story “The Lady with the Pet Dog,” Chekov let’s us into the mind of the character Dmitry Gurov as he seeks to compensate his unhappy life in his many affairs with women. In one of his many affairs with Anna Sergeyevna we see how Dmitry changes his views and attitude as he falls in love. In the beginning of “The Lady with the Pet Dog,” the character Dmitry Gurov is an unhappy narcissistic and a misogynist who is easily bored with women and his lover Anna Sergeyevna. By the end of the story, however, he changes his views of Anna when he realizes he loves her. Before meeting Anna, Dmitry is displayed in an unflattering manner. He is very unhappy with his life and marriage even though his wife was described as “a tall, erect woman with dark eyebrows, stately and dignified and, as she said of herself, intellectual” (156). She seemed like a great woman with beauty and intelligence, yet, he was still dissatisfied, “he privately considered her of limited intelligence, narrow-minded, dowdy, was afraid of her, and did not like to be home” (156). ...Dog Swimming a. importance of swimming Just as swimming for people is recognized for its conditioning and therapeutic value, so has it been recognized for “man’s best friend” -the dog. For dogs that are overweight, need conditioning, or have disabilities that make normal exercise painful or inappropriate, swimming can provide an excellent alternative or supplement to ground-based programs. Also, swimming can provide dogs excellent rehabilitation therapy, aerobic conditioning, exercise, relaxation, interaction with other dogs and great of fun! b. how to swim Dogs, like all animals, have the natural ability to swim but generally have to learn water confidence before a specific swimming program can be developed. There are two swimming pools in our company. A training pool provides the initial swimming introduction and allows the dog to gain their water confidence. The main pool allows the dog to swim in 30 yard laps or to swim freely to retrieve, train or just swim for the fun of it. Swim Center staff performs the initial swimming of the dog, but owners are encouraged to take over once the dog has graduated from the training class. Dogs wear a chest harness for support and are walked down a gentle sloping ramp into the water. For dogs with paralysis or inability to walk, they are gently lifted and placed into the water and supported by the harness, or in some cases a flotation device may be used, while they develop their swimming stroke. The Lady with the Dog

...Austin Tullis English 1102 Prof. Atkinson The Lady with the Dog The Lady with the Dog encompasses a story of star crossed lovers, Dmitri Dimtritch and Anna Sergeyevna, who yearned to be with each other, fighting against all odds. Dmitri is an older gentleman who is married but gets bored quite easily with the married lifestyle and seeks out casual relations with many different women viewing them as just an object. Anna on the other hand is an innocent woman who feels as though she is in a rut with her husband and has lost feelings for him but feels far too guilty to leave him. She does in fact feel as though she needs to be alone or rather enjoying the company of other people by vacationing away from her husband, but why bring a dog into this story? Even though the dog may not seem as it plays a big role in the story it certainly plays a key part where Dmitri uses the dog to create a way to interact with Anna for the first time. However the dog will show up again towards the middle with a different approach but still being a key factor in a deciding moment. There are many cases in this story where you will be led to believe a typical outcome that many love stories have but you will be thrown a curve ball where this might look like more of a tragedy, such as what was seen in Romeo and Juliet. Anton Chekhov, the author, made this story very intriguing by leaving gaps in some parts of the story for the reader to interpret what the outcome would be. I was fascinated with how he...

The Lady with the Dog

...Camille Bondy Intro to short story February 24, 2015 The Lady with the Dog: Close Reading Anton Chekov, the author of The Lady with the Dog, writes about the unification of two people who are unhappily married. Dmitritch Gurov, the main character of the story, plays the role of a married man who is disloyal to his wife. Anna Sergeyevna, the lady with the dog, is also married. She is portrayed as an authoritative woman, until she begins her affair with Gurov. But even then the reader has a certain level of respect for her because she truly feels love for this man. When they first meet, it is clear that there is an instant attraction between them. Judging Gurov’s past one can promptly assume what his intentions are considering Anna is a beautiful young woman, half his age. Fidelity plays a big role in the story, both main characters are defined by their unfaithfulness to their spouses. Secrecy is another key theme that Chekov included in this story; Gurov’s reality is kept hidden from the world. He puts on a front, in which he reveals all of his lies such as his “love” for his wife, his friends, his emotions and other things that are completely false. His feelings for the “lower race” or women are kept a secret as well; he finds comfort in women, which completely contradicts the way he says he feels about them. Chekov clearly perfectly exemplifies all of the faults humans have and how it is possible for people to change no matter how late in life it is. In this passage...

Why Dogs Make the Best Pets

...Dogs Make the Best Pets Dogs come in all shapes and sizes. From tea cup size to giant size, from long hair to short hair and even hairless. With all the different breeds of dogs there is a variety of behavior and personalities and a variety of looks. But with all this variety there is one thing that stays constant – the love and companionship a dog gives. Regardless of the type of dog you chose your little furry friend will become your best friend, your family and if you let them will become part of your heart. There is no other animal that would make a better pet than a dog, no other pet provides more unconditional love and affection, and provides more social interaction and companionship than a dog. A dog expresses love and affection in so many ways, from the affectionate licks on our face, the intimate wagging of their tails, to their hugs when you come home. I cannot think of another species in the universe other than a dog that is capable of expressing their unconditional love and unwavering loyalty. When you think of a pet the two obvious choices that come to mind are a dog or a cat. Some people may try to argue that a cat is a better pet, but a cat does not greet you at the door like a dog, nor is a cat as affectionate as a dog. A cat is more independent than a dog, they tend to come around when they need something where a dog actually identifies with their owners mood. My dog can actually sense my mood and react accordingly; when I am sick or sad my dogs......

...Contrast essay by Louise Hensley I love both my pets! Sosha which is a red-nosed Pit-bull, and then there is Lilbit and she is a German Shepard. These two breeds of animals have their own special unique qualities of their own. As for the Pit-bull breed they are known for their intelligence, strength, and loyalty. They have also been marked for centuries now for their violence and aggressiveness towards people and other animals. They get their name from the Molossian family of dogs, which bear the name from the Molossi Tribe, which is a group of people who lived in Ancient Greece, and they favored the use of robust, muscular dogs in warfare. They are reknowned for their fierceness, and for the ability to intimidate the enemies of the tribe. The Greece later began to sell these dogs to Rome which they used to cross breed with their counterparts from the year 50 A.D to 410 A.D. and then was used for entertainment in the arenas and coliseums of Rome. Once in Rome the British dogs were sold to the Englishman, when they left to go back home the Englishmen took their dogs with them and this is how they ended up in the United States. Even though Sosha is a Pit-bull, she is nothing like they say, she is very well trained and mild mannered. Lilbit is a German Shepard and their breed is known for their largeness, intelligence, strength, and their ability in training. They were used to work in the fields for sheep herding. Also, because of their intelligence and obedience training......

So I will just focus on dogs those furry animals but I also know that there are breeds that are hairless specifically the Chinese crested breed, We have big and little dogs, and also lots of different types of breed some are good in hunting, some are good in herding, some can also help people like police dogs and some are just at home staying cute and always making us happy! So the question is how do dogs can help us reduce our stress? Personally dogs can reduce my stress because they’re just really adorable, so cute and cuddly. Whenever I came home from school I pet them and they’re like so lively with that continuous wagging tail I think petting them means for me that the dog is sharing its energy with me. And after petting and cuddling them I feel active again you know with that smile and everything. Dogs can really help lighten our mood, who could resist those “puppy eyes”? Those wagging tails? And welcomes you home? They just simply improve our mood. Also dogs can be our furry pal for exercises, we could walk or run with them, you two got exercised, and Exercising as we all know is great way to reduce stress and a bonus for you two, more bonding moments. Did Your Mom Ever Tell You Not to Pet Stray Dogs?

...Did your mom ever tell you to not pet stray dogs? Well mine did of course, and I listened just as well as any 4 year old would. I was a very hard headed kid at that age, and I never listened to what I was told. We lived in a small town 200 miles west of Middlin, Texas; it was a quiet town with a population around 1,000 people. If you’ve ever been to Texas then you know that it’s about 90% desert, it’s a dry and dusty place. Stray dogs are everywhere be aware and whatever you do don’t pet stray dogs. It was the summer of 1991 in Middlen, Texas the temperature was around 100 degrees. I was soaked from head to toe with sweat from ridding my dirt bike all day. I had gotten a 50cc Suzuki dirt bike from my dad just a year prior and I was loving it. I rode my dirt bike all summer long that year. There was a pit not too far from my house that I could ride in that had some whoop-de-woops, and some jumps. This pit was huge, I mean it was a giant pit, it looked like a comet had struck the earth it was so big. I spent what seemed to be all day at the pit riding my dirt bike. When I finally got home I decided to cool off in the sprinklers, I ran into the house as fast as I possibly could to change clothes. As I got into the house I yelled Mom! Can I go outside and play in the sprinkler, she said yes but I had to eat supper first Dang it, I said under my breath as I continued down the long hallway. When I got to my room I looked everywhere for my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles swimming...
