Hardware Support

...OPERATING SYSTEMS ASSIGNMENT #1 HARDWARE (OPERATING SYSTEM RESEARCHED: LINUX) A common boast among Linux kernel developers is that Linux supports more devices than any other operating system in history. Indeed, device drivers account for more than half of the code in the Linux kernel. However, many devices exist that are still unsupported by Linux, and one of the best ways for a developer to get his or her code into the Linux kernel is by writing a driver for one of these. Writing a driver is also one of the most common tasks initially assigned to those hired by a company to do Linux kernel development. For these reasons, students find it particularly interesting to write a device driver as a project. Unfortunately, since our development environment involves VMs hosted on a remote server and because we are constrained to work within a ten-week quarter, it is difficult to find real devices for which students can easily write drivers. Moreover, providing devices to students might be financially infeasible, even if an appropriate device could be found. We have thus found it easiest for students to write a driver for a virtual device. Specifically, we have them implement a RAM disk driver, which allocates a large block of memory and presents it in the form of a block device ------------------------------------------------- Supported Hardware Ubuntu does not impose hardware requirements beyond the requirements of the Linux kernel and the GNU tool-sets. Therefore, any...

Life Support

...Ending Life Support There is a lot of controversy over the topic of ending life support. Should the decision be made by a doctor or the family members of the patient? Cases: Karen Quinlan Case, Barber v. Supreme Court Case, Cruzan Case, Gilgunn Case --Protected under the 14th amendment Autonomy- determining moral responsibility for one's actions Some people think that a patient’s death should be in the hands of the physician, if their condition isn’t consistent or advancing. A will is something that people use to make sure their desires are met if they are unable to make the decision by themselves. The idea of keeping a will was widespread in the 1990’s, the number of people that say they have a living will more than doubled from 12% in 1990 to 29% now (Peoplepress 1). But what about the other 71% of American’s? An accident can happen to anybody and if you aren’t able to make decision’s for yourself who is the person who will be making those decision’s for you. The regulations on the subject in the United States is that the patient or surrogate must be informed on the subject and can consent to or refuse all treatments given to them (Atsjournals 1). Life support would......

Desktop Support

...What is Desktop Support? By: Nicholas Jones A good question to ask would be what is desktop support, and why does it matter? Desktop support is a job title that a person gets when he/she is hired at a company that needs support for the companies IT issues. If the company is not large enough to need its own desktop support personel than an outside company may be hired to accept the workflow. Not everyone is a genius with computers and sometime require a little extra help to get things working again. This is where a desktop support role would be needed. Since a lot of the problems with machines thes days is because of user error a DS employee would basically be called to help fix the error that the user caused in the first place. If the problem is not user error it is also needed that the DS be knowledgable with the levels of escalation within the company so that the issue can be sent to the next level. It is also important that the DS documents the issues and problems fully so that the trouble shooting process will not have to be repeated. Most of the time the role of a DS is not a glamourous one, and really takes a calm and cool head to accomplish the job completely and tactfully. Users will call in and blame the DS for there mistake and expect and immediate fix. This can be a huge irritation, because the user is almost always at level employee, or the CEO that does not care about your feeling, and most deffinetley does not want to hear that this issue is there fault......

Social Support

...Providing Social Support May Be More Beneficial Than Receiving It: Results from a Prospective Study of Mortality This study examines the relative contributions of giving versus receiving support to longevity in a sample of older married adults. Baseline indicators of giving and receiving support were used to predict mortality status over a 5-year period in the Changing Lives of Older Couples sample. Results from logistic regression analyses indicated that mortality was significantly reduced for individuals who reported providing instrumental support to friends, relatives, and neighbors, and individuals who reported providing emotional support to their spouse. Receiving support had no effect on mortality once giving support was taken into consideration. This pattern of findings was obtained after controlling for demographic, personality, health, mental health, and marital-relationship variables. These results have implications for understanding how social contact influences health and longevity A Scale for the Assessment of Attitudes and Knowledge Regarding Sexuality in the Aged This research article seizes to focus on the lack of instruments designed to access aspects of sexual knowledge and attitudes of sexual functioning in later life. ... Inter sectorial collaboration is the second principle of PHC which is the collaboration between health care professionals and professionals in the community sector that help individuals interdependently meet needs and demands. The nursing role is to act as an entry point for a client, to identify and aid in the use of resources, to provide appropriate information by the methods that are acceptable to the client (McMurray, 2007). Public participation is another important principle of PHC; the main focus is to lessen the client’s isolation and vulnerability when confronting health care. Nursing takes an empowerment approach, if people are prepared for events and circumstances with both the information needed and the community support they can become empowered to take a course of action for health. Nursing shifts from professionally driven to people driven which promotes client centered care (CNA, 2005). The use of appropriate skills and technology enhances health care resources that are available to the client (CNA, 2003). Nursing contributes to this principle by demonstrating, developing, implementing and evaluating the appropriate technology (McMurray, 2007). The final principle of PHC is health promotion, this is the process of helping clients increase control over and improve...

The foundation of hospice care started to take form in London somewhere about 1948. Hospice care came to the United States in 1963 by a physician Cicely Saunders who spoke of the new style of care given to terminally ill patients. First, I selected the main purpose for my search of on-line tech support. I used the on-line tech support web site After searching the Internet for an interesting or catchy home page of Internet tech support, I stumbled upon I read the intro page and look under some of the discussions and decided to enter the domain and ask my help question. Decision Support

...& Robins,2000). With Internet-hosted databases and user friendly query device being mostly used, organizations are turning to decision support systems (DSS) software to analyze the company's databases and develop them into information helpful for decision makers. According to Power (2007) information Systems researchers and technologists have built and investigated computerized Decision Support Systems (DSS) for approximately 40 years. For the purpose of this work, I will define DSS as computer software that facilitates and accepts inputs of a large number of facts and methods to convert them into meaningful comparisons, graphs, and trends that can facilitate and enhance decision makers’ decision-making abilities to solve problems (Haitham, 2015). The advantages of using decision support systems for decision making. The use of DSS has been positively associated with success of better decisions that enhanced employees’ productivity (Edwards et al., 2000; Haag & Cummings, 2008).In my team, we have lots of reports to submit as required by OSHA /EPA and DSS software is being used to achieve 76 percent time reduction in information and report generating and a 40 percent rise in user productivity. DSS typically includes analytical and report-writing features, thus enabling users to translate raw data into a form useful for decision support. DSS, which offers users more flexible programming paradigms, can be compared to another type of software, which enhances......

...Brittany Witte Professor Weller ENG W131 21 November 2010 Child Support: Then and Now What is child support? According to, child support is defined as payment made for the support of the children of divorced or separated parents while the children are minors or until they reach an age set by the separation agreement or in a court order ( This argument will show the changes in child support over the last fifty years, along with statistics that show how many people are in need of child support. The research will also show what the current child support laws and enforcement regulations are at present day. Child support started as far back as 1935, with a program that provided Aid to Families with Dependent Children, also known as the AFDC, this program would help families that met the established federal need requirements, receive monthly minimum payments from the state. One requirement that would qualify a family to receive a monthly payment would be if a child was not being adequately supported by a parent that was not around, and not paying support (Morgan). Basically, these benefits that the families were receiving from the government were a substitute for child support. This was the start of child support laws and enforcement. It was not until 1974, that there were more changes to child support laws. At this time, child support was to be shifted from the money coming out of the taxpayers’ pockets to making the absent parent being the......
