Field Observation for Stuedent Teaching

...Final Service Learning Paper My service learning for my class here at ACC was at Mc Bee Elementary School. Mc Bee is located on Braker lane and is what I would consider to be a lower working class income school. The school is a recognized campus scholastically. The primary make up of the school is Hispanic children many of which are enrolled in Bilingual and ESL classes. The overall setting of the school is a happy one while walking the hallways I only see smiling happy children. The classroom that I was assigned to was a fourth grade monolingual class. I worked with the class during their math time. My classroom was made up of 23 students the majority of which were boys. There were only 8 girls in the classroom. The makeup of the class was all Hispanic with the exception of 3 African American children, 2 of which were boys. My classroom setting was also very strict. The students were constantly being scolded for any fidgeting, moving or simply talking to their neighbor. The students whom I worked with mainly were two girls who were at their own table. These two girls probably had the most trouble with Math in their class. They also had trouble with other basic skills such as reading and simple math computations. These two girls have a hard time with their multiplication and addition skills. When I work with them on I make sure to implement reading into their lesson as well as the math aspect of it. These two girls socio economically I feel are middle class and......

Quality of Education in South Africa

...Graeme Bloch this is because teachers and schools are not equipped enough to teach these subjects. He also says that this is as a result of schools not having laboratories and because 92% of the schools does not have libaries. Another issue arose I regards to structural problems , these are insufficient skills of teachers. Shireen Motala states that the processes of the curriculum of the past years has been confusing for teachers. The Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega however says that the government will work with private partners such as the Shuttleworth Foundation whom had developed textbooks in maths and science for grades 10-12 and will be distributing to schools free of charge. Also they will improve the performance of female stuedents, assist students to make appropriate subject choices, ensure that the correct teachers are in the correct jobs, focus on teachers development and content knowledge. This making it easier for teachers to apply knowledge in a way that is accessible to students. Another cause for concern according to an artcle in Wordpress is language. The ability to read in English is very important for students to succeed in schools and beyond . All schools subjects employ a learners ability to read. Yet, many learners are unable to do so . The article states that an average grade 2 learner is unable to name letters or their sounds and that most of the Grade 3 learners are not able to read at a Grade 1 level. South Africa has 11 official languages......
