...southern Ohio. For nineteen years now, I have looked out to the same beautiful scenery when I look out my bedroom window. My backyard is covered with rolling hills, filled with the greenest of trees during the hot summer months. Surrounding my home is the most stunning fields of corn that tend to look even more magnificent when the sun sets behind them, accentuating their golden color in the fall. Throughout my whole life in this rural town I call home, I have heard how know matter where you go in life you will return home in the end. I could not disagree more with that typical belief. Growing up in a such a serene and tranquil place has truly been a blessing in disguise. I have always had the best family I could ask for. My parents have always supported me in all that I have done and my two sisters are my best friends. That love and support never wavered, not even when I made the decision to attend college at a university that was 4 hours away. I went to a high school where I could recognize each face I saw and lived in a neighborhood where everyone graciously waves at everyone. Few people in my hometown strayed away from the things they had grown accustomed to; however, growing up I was always knew I was different than the rest. Since a young age, I was always attending multiple different summer and sports camps and staying overnight with friends and family for weeks at a time. I love home and the people here but when I graduated high school I viewed it as an opportunity......

I Am What I Am

...“I Am What I AM” is a musical which was on shown in January in Sheung Wan Civic Centre. The story of the musical is actually a real-life story adapted from a Singapore transgender person, Abigail, about making a tough decision of being loyal to her true gender. Abigail’s frustration of whether to take the Sex Reassignment Surgery (“SRS” for short) or not was exquisitely presented in the musical, so as to communicate with the audience and encourage them to have an in-depth review about the related issue. Why Abigail hopes to be a female rather than a male? To uncover the underlying reasons, let’s start with knowing more about her life in early stage. Being born as a boy, Abigail felt that he was a girl deeply inside his mind. Liked other normal little girls, he loved playing Barbie dolls and doll’s houses. Presenting girls’ characteristics in his childhood gave him a derogatory nickname, “Girlish Boy”, which was frequently called by his classmates in primary school. Trying to conceal his female mind, Abigail always made himself looks like stronger, self-reliant through behaviors, thoughts but seems that was not successful. His classmates continued to laugh at him with offensive languages. When he grew up, he felt much more natural and comfortable to play with girls while sensed shy to play with boys. In Singapore, boys who aged 18 had to serve their duty in military. During that period, Abigail took baths in late evening after all the other soldiers took their baths. It......

I Hope I Am Not Dreaming

...assignment 4 I Hope I Am Not Dreaming On one sunny spring morning, I stepped out of my bed and thought to myself, when does all this end. I knew that I had to pick extra shifts at work because my mother needed some money. My mother had exactly one month to come up with 80 thousand shillings, and if not she would lose her house, that she had used as a collateral for a school loan in order for my younger brother to go to school. Mother had always taught me to be patient with time and that “Gods time wasn’t our time.” At this very minute however, it was almost impossible to still believe, “I have issues of my own, you know” I need a larger apartment, my car sounds like its going to quit any minute now, I need to see a dentist but my company has dropped my insurance coverage. I have invested my time and money into an undergraduate degree that really never change my standard of living, in fact, I am left paying off student loans with money from my old part time job. I walked to the mirror and to my shock; I could not recognize the person in the mirror. I thought this had to be a dream. I stood there for a good ten minutes thinking, how easier life would be for me if I was the woman in the mirror, Paris Hilton. She is an heir to a multimillion dollar establishment. Oh my, I love her blonde hair and skinny body, she is tall, beautiful, not too smart and not college educated but, who cares; she is wealthy. I thought to myself, I could really get used to this. I......

I Read It but I Don't Get It

...I read it but I don’t get it[1] The title of my article is a title of a book by Cris Tovani but more of that later! I want to explore why I feel that Ken Rowe’s literacy report misses the complexity of literacy development in young people– at least from my secondary perspective. Of course he covers some bases and on the surface suggests a balanced approach. He is also right that teachers need to be better educated about reading practices. However, the emphasis on phonics which has been widely reported in the media appears disproportionate to its usefulness. Some students can manage to read and spell without phonics so why do we need to occupy their brains with phonemes or phonic practices. Others need them. The informed primary teacher differentiates accordingly. What Ken Rowe does not focus on is the literacy needs of young people in secondary schools where decoding is less of a problem than comprehension. For many students reading is meaningless – particularly fiction. The Four Resource Model of Allan Luke and Peter Freebody[2] outlines what students need to do as they read: Effective literacy draws on a repertoire of practices that allow learners, as they engage in reading and writing activities, to: • break the code of texts: recognising and using the fundamental features and architecture of written texts including: alphabet, sounds in words, spelling, conventions and patterns of sentence structure and text • participate in the......

...its own standards and protocols? What impact would this have on your personal life or business communications? Answer: If wireless devices had no governance or set of rules to abide by, it would greatly impact everything we do day to day. Think of the hidden security that we have now with wireless. If that was gone it would be easier for someone to acquire your information, such as your social security number, your bank account information. What the Wi-Fi Alliance does is gives us piece of mind. How many people today know about the Wi-Fi Alliance? I believe, unfortunately, not enough people. Exercise 3.1.2- Question: Give another example of a model that is used to visualize something that is difficult to observe or perceive. How does the model make it easier to understand? Answer: My example is Mind Mapping. With Mind Mapping it’s very easy to collaborate all your ideas, thoughts, notes, and references all in one place. I think it would be easier to show someone what it is you’re talking about. And by adding all your information into the Mind Map, it’s very easy to explain to someone (like a Lab Partner) where you’re coming from and how you’re seeing the issue or problem at hand. Exercise 3.1.3- Question: Based on what you already know about networks, what are the different layers you think would be necessary for communication to be mapped to a model? Consider direct connections between host devices and connections that require other routing equipment, such as......

I Believe

...605 I Believe In my “this I believe essay”, I stated that I believe that everyone deserves a chance. A few have a feel other beliefs that are not mentioned. They are that respect shouldn’t be earned to give it, and no one is too young to be responsible. This has kind of developed recently, well one of them. I have always believed that everyone should respect each other regardless, however responsibility should come at any age. However my biggest belief is that everyone deserves a chance. In my future profession, I plan on either becoming a store manage/director for a Hy-Vee store, or to become an athletic director for some sort of institution. Whether it is a college or some school, as long as I stay in the midwest I’ll be content. For the most part, to acquire jobs like these ill have to be kind hearted, and organized with the job. On top of those, ill have to learn to work with people, employees or customers, be able to give up hours outside my job, and know that I can’t quit on a certain task until the job is completed. There are plenty of reasons why I chose this. I have worked at Hy-vee since I was fourteen years old. Since then, I have been given plenty of chances to learn new things, and have acquired a number of skills to make me a better person. The reason why I have chosen this as my future occupation is probably because some of the people you get to meet on a daily basis. I am a very social person, and I like being nice whenever I can. Every moment that I......

I Know I Hurt You

...“ I know I hurt you, but I was forced .please forgive me “. All my way back to home these words were playing football in my mind. It was 20th of December I still remember the day .the warm wind brushing through my cheeks, the engine roaring, booming music from my stereo of our car, the bursts laughter and gossips from some of the best people in my life. Looking at the dancing wheat fields out of my window, the road was quiet as a statue. “BEEP BEEEEP” hey! Watch it, my father yelled at the man who was over taking our car. It was 20th December, my whole family was invited on my friend’s wedding , if you ever been through the excitement of a friend wedding. Well if you have you probably know that it is one of the most exhilarating experience in ones life, I was so excited as my closest friend was getting married. The clock strikes at 4 and we were at door step of my friend’s house. The arrangements were eye-catching , I run in excitement towards my friends room the feeling to see my friend in a wedding dress is unexplainable . I open the door she was standing in a red wedding dress I was stunned she was looking out the world. FINALLY! You are getting married a little smile on her face made me emotional I walk towards her and hug her tight. But why are you so late? she ask .we were so busy in taking pictures and gossiping we didn’t realize about the time . now it was time for her nikkah . Girls quickly her mother order us to bring her out for the nikkah ceremony . we all......

Before I Die I Want to

...Before I die I want to... Before I die I want to be able to do many things that I want to do but I will only highlight a few that I really would like to be able to focus on. One thing that I want to be able to do before I die is to be able to live happy and relaxed for a long period of time. Another thing that I would want to be able to do before I die is to travel to a few different countries or even states for example in particular South Korea and maybe London. Something else that I would want to be able to accomplish before I die is to be at the top position possible at a job in the IT field or some computer related position. Lastly before I die I would like to be able to live life without regrets. The reasoning behind me wanting to be able to live a happy and relaxed life is because ever since I got into high school I don’t think have been living constantly happy life, and I have defiantly not been able to be relaxed because I picked up a job that I almost work every day and have lots of things I have to constantly worry about especially now that I’m in college, and my grades really matter to me now and hoping that I will be able to do well in my classes. Another reason that I would want to live happily is because living happy can help your life span so If I continue on living stressed out and worried about things every day I feel like it can affect my health in the long term, I feel like being able to live worry free would be such a good feeling. I really......

I Immigrant

...I Immigrant Darrell Coon HIS/120 December 15, 2014 Christopher Powers I Immigrant I am keeping this journal so that I may share my journey to America with my family. I will update this as often as possible so that my family won't seem so far away. It will be like I am speaking to them. This way I won't feel so homesick. I intend to mail it back home to Sicily a little at a time. I am scared and, excited to be going to America where I will find more opportunities. It is hard leaving home but, I have to go my family is so poor and, I am just another mouth to feed. I hope to find work in America, the pay in America is so much higher than it is here. I want to save enough money to buy a farm, once I do I can marry my fiancée Sophia and, provide a good life for her. She is so beautiful that my heart aches at the thought of being apart from her. (Molnar, 2010). I am sailing on the St. Michele I think the name is a good omen for a Catholic like me. It puts me at ease as I climb on board. ("Italy Genweb", 2004). The feeling of comfort does not last very long, I am traveling on the steerage deck, which is open with no protection from cold and, stormy weather. I am always exposed to the damp sea air. Days pass by and turn into weeks it is a long miserable trip. Food is hard to come by; we have to fight our way to the kitchens and, then fight over raw potatoes, or; rice. Even when we have the luxury of finding food there is no way to prepare it. The worse is the crew members,......

I Wish

...I Wish..I May..I Wish..I Might I wish that clock went slower, paused, or could rewind I wish my heart wasn’t at the mercy of the hands of time I wish I could go back and tell myself what I know now I wish there was a book for me to understanding how I may be a good mother, or do at least my best I may have given all I had, and sacrificed the rest I may have loved with what I could, the outcome still is blind I maybe should have tried to change, not the other’s flaws, but mine I wish I had let God lead me, much earlier than this I wish I moved out of my own way, I may have already found bliss I wish I had learned from my mistakes, just as I had thought I wish I just listened and remembered, I know now what I forgot I might have had a smile on, it didn’t hinder me I might have laughed, and justified, it was easy to believe I might have been as strong as a rock, unbreakable, hard headed I might have played it really well, I might have just pretended I wish….I may….I wish…..I might….Have the wish, I wish tonight But wishing never got us moving forward in this life So raise a glass, let’s make a toast to the past that we can see I choose my future, and vow to make the change I need in me. -Kaitlyn Marie...

Before I Say I Do

...The phrase 'i do' seem to be misunderstood by many, some feel its only connected to relationship, but unknown to them that is wrong, because in life we daily make decisions that are either wrong or right. Am not saying marriage is excluded but my pioint is that it is not just about you getting hooked to someone but it concerns your entire lfe . In life we make lot od decisions. Some make them out of fear and anxiety, some out of circumstances surrounding them, some out of familys advice or even friends etc. While some make decisions actually from the lords counsel, persnal view and so many too numerous to mention. Therefore i saw it important to write on this subject matter i tittled 'BEFORE I SAY I DO'. What are the thoughts that flies through our mind when we are about to make decisions, do we really seek the lords idea or we just heard some fake voice from friends, family members or even our personal view and ooops we take the bold step. And when we fail we either feel depress or put the blame on whoever gave us their opinion. This accusation could be eliminated only if we obey some vital principles am about to list down which will be able to lead us into our desire, sustain us there and make us avoid mistakes as we go on with our lives. First, we talk about four(4) vital questions that we ask our selves befor saying the hrase 'i do' to any area of life weather marriage, career or anything at all, in as much it has to do with making of decisions. These questions......

I Belive

...I believe love is meant to be. Ill have always taken my relationship seriously. I can say my first relationship has thought me many things. Its crazy falling in love with the person you least expected. I'm currently in a relationship that I'm learning every day. When I was 16 I met the man who I can now call my fiancé and the father of our beautiful baby boy. One day back in the summer of 2008, I was at my father house in Southbridge. It was a nice sunny day ,you can hear the birds chirping and wind was brushing through my hair. That day my father was waiting on my sister and her friends because they were going to buy a car piece. My sister pulled up with her friends OJ and his cousin. All I got to said to him that day was "hi" and that was it. Who was to know that five years later. I was going to bump into him again. I went to my friends house in Waltham and he was their outside with his friends. That night we all decided to go the bar. He knew how to make me laugh and he was such a gentlemen. To me love is out there for everyone especially for those who believe and hope for it. At times you can have the one of your life in front of you and not even realize it. That chance of truly being happy sometimes slides right through people hands. I knew what I have when he showed me what type of man he is. he is a great husband and a great father. you have to give your all and go through the hardest things to get the best in return. To care and give your all is one way to express......

Mummy and I

...Mummy and I Written by Winnie Nguyen Pham Nov 12th 2011 Every step that I am walking is followed by Mummy. I am very lucky and very proud of you, Mummy. I love you, Mummy. You are not only watching me, but also one of my best friends. When I was a little kid, you taught me how to be a good person, how to communicate well with people. You had one wish that you wanted to be fluent in English both in listening and speaking. However, it was unlucky that you could not do it because of the some conditions. Mummy, do not worry. I will do everything that you could not do it. I will continue to follow up it. You had to tell me why the importance of English was. Without English, we could not do anything to communicate with the big world in the future. That was why it motivated me a lot. I appreciate much for that and I am grateful for giving a birth to me. Many your friends said that I was the copy of you when you were young. I am very happy to hear that, Mummy. Mummy, I am still remembering all the stories and all the conversations that we have talked until now. Each of stories and each of conversations gave me some thoughts after that. They looked like the lessons for me. I never feel that it was sad or it was wasting time for being with you. Even though you are older than me, you always drive me in our old motorcycle. We had been robbed many times on the streets because we kept talking on the roads. We lost the attentions. However, you never claimed on me about that. You just......
