...Placement Essay I am a transfer student from Santa Monica Community College in Los Angeles, California. This is my first semester in Northeastern University and I am currently enrolled in 5 different classes, including English 1111. I am a Chinese who is born and raised in Malaysia, and apparently English is not my first language. I started to learn English since I was 10, and decided to study abroad in United States when I was 20. I have taken a few English classes since I came to the United States, and I have learned a lot from each of my English professors, which increased my current level of confidence and skill in writing. In this semester, I have enrolled 4 different classes such as Managerial Accounting, Personal Skill Development for Business, International Business and Global Social Responsibility, and Business Statistic. All of these classes are related to business studies, which is my major. Among so many different concentrations in business, I have chosen finance because my father has influenced me in many ways since I was young. He is an active trader on the share market with an extensive portfolio. Therefore, he always shares his insights with me and teaches me how to perform technical analysis and fundamental analysis to identify the intrinsic value of a company. Eventually, this makes me have more interest in finance and the stock market. I am confident that I have much to offer and I am geared to learn more in Northeastern University. First of all, the...

Placement Report

...Placement Report Introduction I was employed for three months at Diftco, near Birmingham, under the supervision of Ms Witten. The objective of the internship was to gain management experience in an industrial environment. Diftco exports construction equipment, and it is one of the most profitable firms in the region. Experience and Professional Achievements I worked in the Export Office most of the time, where I was in charge of preparing shipping documents. I was also responsible for checking containers in the warehouse where the equipment is assembled and packed. I successfully learnt to use the automatic bar code system used in the warehouse. However, it was interesting to discover that even such a sophisticated system can never completely eliminate human error. Perhaps the most valuable lesson I learnt was to double-check information. The importance of careful checking was emphasized when I unfortunately sent a container to Austria instead of Australia because I had misunderstood my correspondent on the telephone. The course module in international trade studied last semester was extremely valuable in understanding how a company like Diftco works. Thanks to this preparation, I was able to establish good rapport with the export staff. On the other hand, communication with the warehouse staff was much more difficult mainly because many of them do not speak English. Observations The company is well organized with a very motivated, hard-working and dedicated staff. I feel...

... Every movie and international sitcom in the US has an Apple perched on their table or their laps. It began on the 1994 movie, Forrest Gump, when Lieutenant Dan invested his money in "some kind of fruit company" – the letterhead bearing the Apple logo. According to Ed Reily for Suite101.com, “In the last 10 years the onscreen placement of Apple products has become increasingly conspicuous. Perhaps it's the "coolness" factor that has long been associated with Apple being "maverick" in a corporate market (e.g. "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC"), a company that has a cult-like following of devotees to its superior industrial design and intuitive user-friendly engineering.” In the 44 films in 2009 that topped the box office for at least one weekend, an Apple logo or device could be seen in at least 18 of them. The surprising thing about Apple is that even though they’re literally appearing in every show in the US, they’re not charging anyone for the placement. This proves Apple’s and any other smart brand of effective Product placement. Although Product Placement seems to be successful in a lot of movies, it's not a hundred-percent effective. Some product placements done don’t affect the brand or the brand's recognition. The Sex and the City movie may have a lot of brands placed in their movies, but it didn't necessarily boost the brand's popularity since some of the products were already popular. There was a wave of promoting designers and brands such as Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton Oscar......

To reach retreating audiences, advertisers use product placements increasingly in clever, effective ways that do not cost too much. The purpose of this paper is to examine product placement in terms of definition, use, purposes of product placement, specific media vehicles, variables that impact the effectiveness of product placement, the downside of using product placement, and the ethics of product placement. Brand Placement in Movies

...In recent years a lot of research is done on Brand/Product placement in Bollywood films by marketers and advertisers so as to understand the concept and strategies of brand placement in movies. Although not many academic researches can be seen in the field of product placement in Bollywood, the practical usage of the practice of Brand Placement has grown significantly. Lehu in his work defines, “The expression ‘Product Placement' or, ‘Brand Placement' essentially describes the location, or more accurately, the integration of a product or a brand into a film or televised series.” Lehu (2007, pp.1) it can be understood from the work of other scholars like Kalish (1988), Gupta and (Gould 1997) Balasubramanian (1994) that brand placement is planned consolidation of brand with the elements of a feature film in return for money, service, barter, or any other kind of consideration. The research also focuses on the strategies of brand placement in Hollywood as no substantial academic can be found on classification of brands in the Indian cinema. The literature looks and analyzes the Tripartite typology of product placement by Russell (1998) , two dimensional approach to classify brand placement by Gupta and Lord (1998), Classification on the basic on Integration and explicitness by d'Austos and Seguin (1999) and finally Shapiro's (1993) classification of brand placement. Over the years Advertising has emerged as a key component of integrated Marketing communication. Moreover, it has...

Work-Experience Placement

...Work-experience placement In week 43 I had one week's work experience in the navy. I should try to become a soldier. We lived in six different rooms - called “Hedegården”. They are used for trainees. It was a big experience to try to become a soldier. We took the bus from Nørresundby to Frederikshavn. When we arrived to Frederikshavn we were welcomed by two men who drove us to the Navy. The first day we got two different uniforms which we should wear on at all times. We did many different things, and some of them I will tell about. Tuesday: We had to test our physical fitness with 3 km run. In the evening we had to exercise in a wood. We thought we had to sleep there, but we didn´t. Wednesday: We went to a shooting range where we had to shoot with an M/96. I was very nervous to shoot with this rifle, because it was the first time I had ever shot. In the evening we visit a home for soldiers where they can be in their spare time. Thursday: we were out on another exercise. We got into a boat, which little by little became filled with water. We should close all the holes, but it was hard. After that we went to a “røgdykkerbane”. This day we also heard a talk about someone who had been sent out. It was very exciting. We also saw many other things and I think it had been a very excited week, where I really got to be a soldier. It was a big experience, but it is not that way I want to go when I get adult. The work-experience placement has given me an insight,......

Placement Objective

...PTY Objectives: During my placement at the Savoy, I am expected to be assigned with a number of different tasks in my allocated departments of the hotel. For instance, I will be working in housekeeping and I believe that this could be a challenging task to me as housekeeping involves different skills and physical jobs. I believe that such an experience will offer me an opportunity to testify my adaptability of working in a new environment, as well as the capability of acquiring new skills. I also believe that this will be beneficial to me as it will be the first time that I will be working in the rooms division department and as it is the first rotation of my placement, I believe it will give me a chance to adapt to the standards of the Savoy as I will not be directly in contact with its customers just yet. I will also be working in the Food and Beverage (F&B) department under events for my second rotation. I believe that this is beneficial to me as I would have not only familiarised myself with my surroundings but by that period of time I believe I would have gained some vital training on how to behave and hold myself in front of customers. I trust this will be a great opportunity to seek professional experience within the catering and events industry. The Savoy operates some of the most exquisite F&B outlets within the industry, which means I will be able to learn high standard knowledge and skills in terms of the mannerisms of service and expand my current level of......

Product Placement in Films

...PRODUCT PLACEMENT IN FILMS 3 2 1 “Aila, bournvita nahi hai? Chusti, sfurti aur shakti ke liye bournvita hona bohot zaruri hai..” Doesn’t the dialogue sound familiar? All those who have seen the famous movie Koi Mil Gaya, starring Hrithik Roshan, won’t feel hard recalling the endorsement of Cadbury’s product Bournvita. And the same product was endorsed again in its sequel Krrish (as shown in pic#1). Product Placement is basically a promotional tactic used by marketers in which characters in a fictional play, movie, television series or book use a real commercial product. Typically the product or its logo is shown or favorable qualities of the product are mentioned. Considering the trend of product placement in Bollywood movies, it was first visible way back in 1955 in Raj Kapoor movie named Shree 420 (as shown in pic#4) where the protagonist enters Mumbai for the first time, a large Coca-cola banner was visible right above his head. Although the trend continued then in latter movies namely An Evening In Paris (1967) where again Coca-cola was carried by the hero & heroine of the movie where ever they went exploring the city of Paris, & in Bobby (1975), Rajdoot motorcycle was featured by Rishi Kapoor. In 1992, an Aamir Khan starred film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander promoted the use of geared bicycles (as shown in pic#3). Similarly in Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997) starring Shahrukh Khan, number of brands were promoted like Pepsi, Levis & Killer jeans. However it was......
