I experienced childhood as an obese child. I arrived a turning point where I realized that enough was enough. Fast forward 6 years and here I am, continuously looking for ways to challenge myself to new heights. Pain is necessary for change and that has long been accepted because I know the pain I feel today will be the strength I feel tomorrow. Pain makes me grow. Growing is what I seek in life. Therefore, for me, pain is pleasure. The medical world is full of emotional, physical, ethical and intellectual challenges which doctors face on a daily basis, but yet this creates a dynamic profession which can be enormously gratifying.

If it were not for science and the understanding of the functionalities of the human body, my life would not have been transformed into one that I can be proud of. Hence, I have appreciated the wonders of science ever since childhood and it is this fascination that has developed a hunger inside me for knowledge. To gain a deeper intuitive understanding of the medical field, I have experienced first- hand how heterogeneous a doctor’s job can be; not just performing surgery or prescribing medication but also compassion and empathy being key to delivering the best care to patients. This fact was accentuated during a period of shadowing an oncologist, Dr Tan Meng Kuan at Tung Shin hospital in Malaysia for a period of 5 weeks. Having to handle patients involved with such a terminal disease, I was able to observe the doctor conversing in difficult situations such as witnessing the emotional despair of patients along with family members.

Having volunteered at St Mary’s Agape Mission School, I was able to work closely with Myanmar refugee children tutoring them in subjects like Mathematics, Science and English. This opened my eyes to the lives of children, who were not born with a silver spoon, yet appreciated life more than most. These…...

...Andrew Breault Mrs. Pennycuff Personal Statement Essay (Rough Draft) 30 August 2012 “Should I run?” “Yeah, get the hell out of here!” One spring night in March of 2010 I made the worst mistake of my life that turned out to be one of the biggest turning points in my short lived existence on this earth. During my life there have always been lessons, achievements, and faults. What is interesting about those three aspects is that you have to have all three of them in order to have the others. One cannot learn a truly valuable lesson without a previous fault; therefore you cannot achieve and accomplish goals without the knowledge gained from the lessons learned. Learning lessons and values is the key to understanding who you are, and what you are going to do. Yes, learning is great, but it is what you do with that knowledge that in fact defines the person. The lessons I learned from this event are always with me, they have made an indescribable impact in the person I have to grown to be today. This is the incident that changed my life and gave me the greatest wakeup call I have ever known. BMW manufactured a sport crossover called the X5. The X5 has a powerful engine and has remarkable handling. My father had always driven SUVs’ and wanted to try something new so he acquired a 2008 BMW X5. On this spring night I decided to try out the speed of the car. There is a street called West Parkway, which is approximately three quarters of a mile. This street is long and......

...materials for our interview. We began our interview and I listened intently while Ms. Bakutis told me of all the wonderful opportunities Morris Graduate College has to offer. We discussed which program may work best for me, location, and financial aid. As we were closing out the interview Ms Bakutis opened a black folder shaped like an elegant envelope and pulled out papers that needed to be returned as soon as possible. She then alerted me that classes would begin on December 2nd, 2013, so it would be beneficial to me to get started as soon as possible. The final thing Ms. Bakutis told me as we wrapped up our meeting is that I would need to submit a personal statement along with two letters of recommendation. Whoa!!!!! At that moment everything stopped. I need to write a personal statement? Wow!!! I’ve never written a personal statement. Am I really ready for this? These were just some of the thoughts running through my mind. I went into panic mode as my mind started racing. Aaaww man, I have to write a paper to get into the Master’s Program? Shoot!! ...Solène JAMBU-MERLIN PERSONAL STATEMENT I am currently in my high school's last year in scientific section and I would like to enrol in a British University in order to acquire an education that will best prepare me for working life. I find the studies that are offered in British universities more open-minded that in France because chemistry with management doesn't really exist here, you have to choose or chemistry or management. I gradually became interested in chemistry at school. Last year my teacher wanted us to discover what chemistry really was by giving us harder work than we were supposed to do to make us discover new things by ourselves. I really enjoyed it and I knew that I wanted to continue chemistry after high school. For management, it is different; I have always wanted to do it. It is frequent in my family to discuss at dinners about current topics on the economical and political situation on the world. It helped me to develop my interest for any issues linked to the world's situation. Moreover, last year we had a project to do in team of three (we chose to talk about asbestos) and I really enjoyed leading this team in order to make us succeed in working together. I think I have the required abilities to adapt to a British university and contribute to its life by my personals qualities. I have two main characteristics, which are an open-mind, and a taste for discovering new things. I lived one year in Dublin (in 2011-2012) for my......

...Personal Statement. Shaniyah Tensae S4-English September 17th, 2014. Dear Admissions Committee, Upon many months of reflection, I have made decisions that I believe will serve me, and perhaps others, as we begin our adult journey called life. I have made many wrongs but I know that with these wrongs I have learnt a lesson at the end of it. As some people may say, ‘In life you get the test then get the lesson.’ And with this I do agree. In life I believe that we are given a test to see if we fail or succeed. If we succeed well that’s onto another test and trials. But if we do fail, we learn what we did wrong and what we can do to fix it. There’s nothing wrong with failing a test, because we can always study and study until we are sure that we can pass and then go and ace the test and that’s where you learn your lesson. There are many different tests in life and we may not all get the same ones but that’s life. Because we are all different and that’s the greatest thing to remember. That we are all different, and it’s okay to be different. To put this theory to the test, let’s take a struggle I had a couple years ago. We all lose people we care about. Whether it be your mom, dad, sister, brother, or spouse. We all lose people and it all affects us in different ways. Well, when I was 11 years old I lost my grandfather. Losing him hit me very hard. He is my everything. So to lose that something in your life that matters to you most is going to......

...personal statement Fostering student's physical and mental development and igniting their potential is the ultimate goal of Education. Since the inspiration given by English teacher I met in my primary school, I realize that being a good teacher is not just to inculcate knowledge but also to guide students to develop the right value in life. Having majored in Social Sciences in HKU Space Community college has sparked my interest on sociology and I have gained greater insight into some institutions, especially the education system in Hong Kong. I would like to further investigate on what social issue that affect student’s learning or mechanism the government had processed to enhance Hong Kong education. Hence I would like to pursue a degree in Faculty of Education in Liberal Studies in Chinese University of Hong Kong to equip myself for the upcoming challenge. Cramming up all the knowledge in education institution is meaningless. What most important is having a wide variety of life experience and critical mindset. In order to get more exposure to the social issue, I participated in numerous extra-curricular activities and social events. I have been a teacher assistant in tutorial Centre and guitar tutor for leisure class in recent years. These experiences have greatly escalated my passion towards teaching since I need to explain the concept clearly so as to eradicate students’ bewilderment. Additionally, it also enhanced my forbearance and experience......

...Personal Statement I stood in the doorway, watching my mom fight back her tears, as she studied the bills. “What’s wrong?” I said as I looked over her shoulder. “Nothing, just looking at some papers,” she said as her eyes were raging up with more water. As I stared deeply into her eyes I knew that things were going to take a turn. When I was younger my family and I would go on a lot of vacations like Disneyland and the beach. As I got older in seventh grade, the vacations would be from ten times a year to once every six months. Growing up, I always thought I would be protected because I was the youngest, but growing up with a single mom only having one full-time job made me come to realization. My mom always made sure I had everything I needed compared to the other kids at school, but to do so cost her significant stress. “Mom if we are in trouble, tell me…I am a part of this family too,” I said looking into her eyes. “Well, we’re having a little trouble paying the bills with your brother in college and your sister wanting to go back to college, and the debt is adding up”, my mom said with a scare. “Mom, if we’re having trouble, then I guess I could sell candy or pretend to be a hobo on the corner, anything for you mom,” I said with a great smile. My mother broke into laughter, “I love you so much. You always find a way to put a smile on my face,” she said smiling and laughing at me with a great smile. Making her laugh made my heart melt. Her laugh was......

Here I was able to see methods of production and workforce planning in action. I was also able to gain a greater understanding of transport, which is an area I am interested in.
