1. We decided to use a total of 3 employees for cooks in the kitchen at Donatos. The number of 3 would not only help us with making orders, but also with the clean duties after the rush hours. In the year or so, HR will extend our cook employees to 4 per shift for better efficiency. 2. As a Pizza/ Fast Food chain, yes we do compete for employees. We feel that the atmosphere, our salaries and benefits, interest our potential employees more than our competition. 3. After a year of being with us, we sit down with the other managers and grade an employee’s performance on a scale of 1-10. The next day we call in the employee, and let him know how he/she did last year, and how he/she can do better in the coming year. 4. First we look internally. If there isn’t an employee that fits the criteria for that particular position, we check our other stores that are close by. If all else fails, then we advertise employment. 5. Yes. Donatos wants every piece of diversity it can muster. We believe that different people bring different ideas that can help this company grow and be more successful. We do not discriminate against any race, background, or family history. Everyone has a fair chance to be a part of the Donatos family. 6. We would sit down with that employee, and try to understand his reasoning, if we can’t come to an agreement; he/she would be moved to either a different dept. of a new store entirely. 7. ...Elizabeth Anderson Journal# 10 Professor Jordan Section 3 Covey: Covey’s fifth habit is: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. He talks about the importance of communication and what he calls “empathetic listening” saying that most people listen with the intent to reply. When we listen we listen on one of four levels (ignoring, pretending, selective listening, or attentive listening) and very few people practice this highest form of listening which is empathetic listening. Empathic listening is effective when you have the best interest of the other in mind, if you genuinely seek the welfare of the others. This can be applied to real life in regards to effective parenting techniques. In an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond called “Father Knows Least” Raymond and his wife sign up for a Parenting class where they learn about active listening. In this clip he practices these techniques with his daughter Allie in order to try to get through to her about her bad behavior. These were caused by population pressure. Overpopulation is the primary cause which brings many problems along with it. Diamond begins the chapter by discussing and talking about his family’s stay in East Africa. He and his family saw overpopulated streets of poor people which sadly most of them were children. The children were on the side of the road begging. Diamond also discusses how population problems such as this with East Africa are sometimes pointed out as Malthusian theory. This is when population grows rapidly compared to food production increases. Diamond also discusses the Rwanda’s people that were controlled and influenced by Hutus, mostly farmers and Tutsis. Hutus and Tutsis did not like each other so Hutus army started killing Tutsis with weapons. Diamond later causes many examples such as overpopulation in Kanama.
