Section 1 Learning from Meetings and Presentation
My research report focusing on business and financial performance analysis of AstraZeneca over three year’s period. I had three meeting with my mentor, and I very appreciate her supports and advices for my research report. She showed me the direction from where I could start my project and reach to conclusion. And she pointed out problems that I had made and took enquiries from me. Therefore, there are many learning outcomes from meeting with my project mentor.

 Preparation and implementation work.
After discussed with my mentor, I realized that preparation is very important to make sure the objectives of the meetings can be achieved efficiently and successfully. A proper preparation can facilitate the discussion so that maximum benefits can be derived from the meetings. And I had prepared a timetable for the project timeline and also issues to be discussed in the meeting. According to the requirement of the first meeting with my project mentor, I have to know the research frame, goals, approach and the time arrangement. That means I should make the planning about the research. I choose AstraZeneca PLC as the topic of this study about the business and financial performance. As a pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca achieves great development in the recent years which is worth studying its changes of financial performance and business. Furthermore, I adopt ratio analysis and model analysis for understanding clearly the research goals.

According to the requirement of the second meeting with my project mentor, I have to learn how I implement the research planning…...

Furthermore, they also mentioned that rules are like maps which show you exactly how to get there, a rule will tell you what to do in specific circumstances. (Roger Hussey & Audra Ong 2005) The fundamental advantage of principles-based accounting is that its broad guidelines can be practical for a variety of circumstances. Precise requirements can sometimes compel managers to manipulate the statements to fit what is compulsory. The problem with principles-based guidelines is that lack of......

...IB SL Geography – Urban Environments Case Study: Air Pollution in Beijing 1. What evidence is there that Chinese cities in general suffer from air pollution? Due to Chinas recent exponential economic growth, pollution has been put to one side and has not been a priority in most cases. Air pollution, a negative externality of economic growth, in China’s northern cities exceed the standards of the World Health Organisation by 5 or 6 times. Respiratory disease, often a result of soot-clogged lungs, is the leading cause of death in China, accounting for 26 per cent of all deaths. Compared to the United States this mortality rate is 5 ½ times worse. A study showed that particles in the Chinese air cause 915,000 premature deaths each year, including those of 300,000 children who die from lung infections. Another 600,000 adults die early of some sort of respiratory blockage and 15,000 fall victim to lung cancer caused by bad, polluted air. 2. Identify the main source of air pollution in Beijing. The main source of air pollution in Beijing, and in most Chinese cities, is the burning of coal. Coal is the main fossil fuel used for heating, cooking and for industry. China has large reserves of coal, however most of it is of very poor quality, and containing large amounts of sulphur. Over 60% of Beijing's total energy consumption is coal, representing just over 30 million tonnes per annum. Of this total use of coal, 70% of it is consumed by the manufacturing......

If the economy sustains its speed, it could ease the unemployment crisis. By CATHERINE RAMPELL Published: January 27, 2011 The American economy picked up a little steam last quarter, growing at its fastest pace in a year and a half. Whether it can sustain that momentum is critical to millions of Americans out of work — and perhaps President Obama’s re-election chances. The New York Times The nation’s economic output grew at an annualized rate of 2.8 percent in the fourth quarter, the Commerce Department reported Friday, probably putting to rest last summer’s fears that a second recession was imminent. Other reports this week on manufacturing and consumer sentiment offered similar, if mild,......

In 2011, Japan recorded its first deficit in its balance of trade in goods since 1963.  The appreciation of the Japanese yen against the dollar has reduced Japan’s current account surplus. The Japanese yen gained 8.5 % against the dollar in the 12 months since January 2011. The currency has acquired a new and unusual status as a safe haven, reinforced by the eurozone debt crisis since international investors are concerned about the single European currency.  It is estimated that a 1 % gain in the Japanese yen could......

...of running, using the optimal strategy of the mathematicians, compared to my own running strategy is beyond the knowledge of what I have acquired so far. It was quite difficult, both critically analyzing the work of the two French mathematicians and deciphering the vocabulary that was used throughout their text. The physics portion of my mathematics was quite difficult to understand, but I still had to learn it. The next thing that I had to do with my own method for improving my running strategy, was to learn how to make a correlation graph and how to find the regression in excel. Lastly, the in depth knowledge of regressions and correlations had to be researched more, and I had to use the knowledge that I have already acquired from Math SL to go in depth for my use of mathematics. Although much of this investigation was quite strenuous, I am looking forward to my advancement in the knowledge of derivatives and correlations. I will hope to gain an even extensive and broad view of mathematics all around and hope to develop another way to improve running all around. Overall, this experience helped me to explore my inquiries of running, aided my view of the concept on both a personal and global view, and challenged me to think more critical....
