Social networking has many negative aspects to it and it should be restricted as it is not safe, causes social problems and health problems. Social networking can be an excellent motivator for people to interact socially because It is safer than meeting random people on the street and can help people who are depressed or deal with other social health problems. Social networking is not safe as it does not protect children, teenagers and adults and they are used and abused through cyberbullying, fake profiles and sexual harassment. Cyberbullying is the use of cell phones, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to harass, threaten or intimidate someone (Rouse Margaret, 2010) . Social Networking Sites and Their Negative Impacts on Young Users

...Social networking sites (SNSs) are increasingly used by young people. Critically evaluate claims that their use can have negative effects on users. Recent years have witnessed the exponential increase of web-based social networks, also known as social networking sites (SNSs). By the end of 2011, there were approximately 2.3 billion people (around one third of the global population) using the Internet, and 1.03 billion (about 45%) of which have reported using a social networking site at least once a day (International Telecommunications Union, 2011:1). According to Papacharissi (2009:199), the increasing popularity and the growth of the leading SNSs such as Facebook, My Space, Twitter and LinkedIn are due to the fact that they offer users various platforms to create their own profiles to represent themselves to interact with each other through emails, instant messages and many other integrated communication tools. While a variety of definitions of the term SNS have been suggested, this essay will use the one first suggested by Boyd and Ellison (2007:210) who saw it as: “web-based services that allow individuals to construct a public or semi-public profile, communicate with other users with whom they share a connection and view and navigate through their own list of connections as well as those of others.” As more people are becoming SNS users, it could be argued that more negative than positive impacts on society and human relationships can be seen in daily life......

The Positives and Negatives of Technolog

...Enc 1102 Prof. Cynthia Watkins Spring 2012 The positives and negatives of technology The internet is perhaps the greatest technological advancement of our lifetime. It allows us to more easily share, organize, and plan our lives with one another in a busy, fast-paced, moving at the speed-of- life, world. However, as we become more immersed in this technological wave, our real-life connections with one another are drying out-- often times even to the detriment of our very own mental and physical well-being. In a time when computerized interactions are replacing social opportunities, it is positively critical that we learn to find a balance between our cyber and real lives, for this technology will only continue to impact and evolve itself in our world. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter—these are just a few of the social networks that many argue have almost completely done away with the social experience. The internet has forced us to revolutionize the way we connect with the world. It helps us to bridge the literal distance between friends, meet new people and even create a new persona. The internet allows us to obtain information at the touch of a button. Information that in the past would have taken hours maybe even days to collect now take us the minutes for someone to respond to an e-mail. It has given traditional and non-traditional students the opportunity to obtain college degrees from schools miles away. There is no question that the internet has enriched our lives......

In discussing whether or not the development of technology has a positive impact on society a number of arguments, both or against, need to be examined. These arguments include bringing convenience to our daily life, the economic growth bought by the technology advancement, the problem of electronic waste and the decline of interpersonal skills. Firstly, technology is very useful in our daily life. Nowadays, almost everyone has a mobile phone, it improves the communication between people. Also, the invention of GPS solves many problems that we had.
