...Restructuring Costs Pharma Co. is a U.S. subsidiary of a U.K. entity that prepares its financial statements in accordance with (1) U.S. GAAP for reporting to its U.S.-based lender and (2) IFRSs in reporting to its parent. Pharma Co. is in the process of restructuring a business line. As part of the restructuring, Pharma Co. is considering the relocation of a manufacturing operation from its present location to a new facility in a different geographic area. The relocation plan would include terminating certain employees. IAS 37 includes guidance for accounting for restructuring costs in accordance with IFRSs. Paragraph 10 of IAS 37 defines restructuring as follows: [A] programme that is planned and controlled by management, and materially changes either: a. the scope of a business undertaken by an entity; or b. the manner in which that business is conducted. Under IFRSs, emphasis is placed on the recognition of the costs of the exit plan as a whole, whereas under ASC 420-10 in U.S. GAAP, each type of cost should be examined individually to determine when it should be accrued. As a result, there may be differences in timing of recognition of restructuring costs under IFRSs and U.S. GAAP. Pharma Co. has taken the following actions: 1. On December 15, 2010, Pharma Co. issued a press release announcing its intentions to terminate the lease of the old facility. The press release is included as Appendix A. Co Sleeping

...year old sons. I began co-sleeping with each of them at birth. It made life much easier during the infant phase of their lives. But that phase has been long gone. I believe that I was able to bond even more with my children through co sleeping. But now I find myself too often tired and unable to concentrate on tasks. While parents who co sleep feel closer to their children, co sleeping is a common issue for parents. Co sleeping has become one of the most common hot topics amongst parents. Ninety percent of the world’s population practice co sleeping (Netherwood, 2006). ‘‘Some parents will tell you that co sleeping can be a cozy, manageable comfort for a family’’ (Redbook, Oct2010). Whether it is a newborn or toddler, more parents are sharing beds with their children. ‘‘Research shows that eighty percent of babies share their parents’ bed at some time in the first 6 months of life’’ (Australian Parents, Dec2006/Jan2007). Co sleeping with school aged children is more common also. It is estimated that about fifteen percent of families have children ages 5 and up that share their bed for part or all of the night (Redbook, Oct2010). One of the most important reasons co sleeping is a common issue for parents are safety concerns. As I mentioned earlier, I have had a few busted lips and bruised body parts. But more importantly, the connection between co sleeping and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) continue to be a major argument for those against co sleeping......

Co-Creation

... marketing has become the important tool in any business strategy. Today I am going to tell you one of the new marketing concepts that have been practised by various companies over the world: we call it value co-creation or consumer generated value. I believe most of the local or small business owners may not heard of this at all, I will try to make my explanation simple. Before I start, let me tell you a story of my own experience. During my birthday last year, I received a birthday cake from my friend that full with my favourite cartoon character Winnie, The Pooh miniatures. It is designed in a way that you would not be able to find it in any stores out there. Out of curiosity, I browsed through their facebook page and found out the owner has used a very interesting slogan: You dream it, we bake it. Unlike the traditional way of select and pay in most of the bakery shops, in this case where rather than rely on the creativity of bakery shop, my friend is able to share his idea, experience and expectation on how he wants the cake to be looked like. In other words, he has participated in a new product development and co-created value with the shop owner. The whole process is less about transaction and more about interaction. A simple way of understanding it is value co-creation is the ability of the company and consumer to create additional value for each other. It is not about what you can provide to your customer but is about what your customer wants or wishes. Consumers......

Co-Teaching

...RUNNING HEAD: C0-TEACHING Co-Teaching Perspective Gregory D. Lee Concordia University I love teaching when the learning in my classroom is palpable: When I can sense it in the quickening pace of a roundtable discussion or a student’s visible delight in using newly learned jargon; when I can hear the excitement in students’ testimonials about mastering skills that “made a difference” or theories that transformed practices and perspectives. I count these as teaching successes and make it a habit to reflect on their origins so that I can recreate the conditions for their occurrence again and again. My philosophy of teaching is informed by the material I teach, relevant scholarship, and the lessons I have learned from personal teaching successes and failures and more successful through co-teaching. Co-teaching is where two or more teachers work together to plan, set up and deliver the curriculum to a group of students. For use with Inclusive Classrooms co-teaching is often the practice of pairing a special educator with a regular educator in a single classroom. As educators strive increasingly to include students with disabilities in the classroom, the need for regular educators to have greater expertise with students of special needs increases as well. An extra teacher in the classroom also helps to lower the student-to-teacher ratio. This means that there is more individual attention given to each student. I believe that learner-oriented teaching promotes......

Co-Culture

...Having a co-culture means you participate in two cultures with distinct values and beliefs. Normally this occurs when you are born in a country where there is a dominant culture and you have parents who practice a different culture from the dominant culture. This is very common in the United States due to its diverse population. Examples of co-cultures in the United States include African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and Mexican Americans. I am part of the Mexican American co-culture. I was born in the United States but come from two Mexican parents. All my life I have participated in both the American and Mexican cultures. As I grew up I learned both English and Spanish. I celebrate both American and Mexican holidays. For example I celebrate both of the countries independence day, and I celebrate both Halloween and el Dia de Los Muertos(Day of the Dead). On Thanksgiving my family always has both classic American and Mexican dishes. For example we have turkey, mashed potatoes, tamales and posole. This is something that feels completely natural due to our co-culture. Growing up in a co-culture will have a very different outcome in your persona than just following or practicing one culture. For example Mexico has a high power-distance culture, which I can clearly see and agree with because I have always been taught to never disrespect an elder. I have witnessed some of my American friends actions around their parents that causes me to be very surprised......

Co-Education

...CO-EDUCATION “CO-EDUCATION AND PEOPLE PERCEPTION AND NEED OF STUDENT’S COUNSELING” ABSTRACT: Education is the fundamental right of every individual. Today, those societies have excelled in every field of life where man and woman are provided equal opportunities for education. It is common believed that for the development of adolescents, segregated schooling system is better than co-education. While co-education plays an important in the development of both male and female. By studying in the same institution together, male and female acquire maturity through interaction and sharing of personal experiences at an early age than in separate institution. But there is a somewhat persistent belief amongst many parents that single-sex is best, especially for girls. Secondary school students do not know how to control their feelings and emotions and how to release their tension. They, at this stage, usually feel attraction in opposite gender, act highly emotional in different matters and no proper guidance is provided to them. Counseling is a wonderful modern invention. The term ‘school counselling’ broadly refers to the process of meeting the needs of students in several areas , such as academics, society, career, and personal. The purpose of the study is to change the people perceptions about coeducation and to develop a knowledge about behavior changes and need of counseling in students. This is a deductive kind of research as it is designed to test the hypothesis and getting...

Co-Dependency

...Co-Dependents Anonymous Lessons On Living: Biblical Perspectives Co-Dependents anonymous or (CoDA) is an organization that was originally founded in 1986 by a man and women names Ken and Mary (Co-Dependents Anonymous, 1995). Ken and Mary were originally from Phoenix, Arizona and were part of an AA type fellowship for their codependent behaviors.  The sole purpose of this program is to follow a similar step as a typical AA meeting would. The program follows 12 steps in which a person admits his or her problems and eventually confronts their issues and turn their relationship into one that is healthy. It is designed to help individuals feel that they are co-dependent or possibly in an unhealthy relationship. Although this program is not setup to cure individuals, its objective is to give the individual a chance to accept that they have a problem, then face it, and find a way to rectify it. Until this can happen the person may remain unhappy and could not only be hurting themselves, but hurting those who matter most in their lives. After conducting my research on co-dependency, I chose to attend a twelve-step group meeting on co-dependency. The meeting was held at the city public library on a Wednesday evening by the organization, Co-Dependency Anonymous. I was expecting to walk into a room with chairs formed in a circle, but there were individual desks set up facing a white board. I took a seat towards the back of the room. The meeting was being held by a woman by the......

Co-Education

...Essay Introduction: Co-Education means the education of boys and girls together in the same institution and at the same time. In India, it has recently become common. In the recent past religious leaders and the people of conservative views did not favor the idea. They were even against the education of women, because they were not in favor of liberty and equality to be granted to women. But now times have changed. Co-education in India: Co-education is not a new thing for us. In the good old days when Sanskrit used to be the mother tongue in India and the Ashram were the seats of learning, co-education was widely practiced. In the Hindu scriptures, old records and legends, we find a number of examples which show that co-education was prevalent then. The practice continued till the advent of Muslim rule in India. With the Muslim rule came the degradation of women. The ‘Purdha’ system led to the discouragement of female education. Co-education in the West: In Europe Co-education is only of recent origin. Oxford and Cambridge universities kept their door tightly shut against woman till recently. But after the First World War, Co-education had tremendous rise in Europe and America. In America women have now begun to outnumber man in the school and colleges. Criticism in Favor and Against Co-education: For the very beginning powerful voices have been raised against this speedy march of co-education. Stephen Leacock, an eminent American educationist declares with emphasis,......
