Mechanical Engineers Qualities for Millennium 3

...Mechanical Engineers Qualities for Millennium 3 1) Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent. The mechanical engineer has been called the general practitioner and the jack-of-all trades among engineering professions. This is because he requires education and skills that span a broad range of technical, social, environmental, and economic problems. In general, however, the mechanical engineer is concerned with controlling the principles of motion, energy, and force through mechanical solutions. A mechanical engineer designs the tools and processes used for satisfying the needs of society through a combination of material, human, and economic resources. He might work on electric generators, internal combustion engines, steam and gas turbines, and other power-generating machines. He might also develop machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, power tools, and other power-using machines. Engineers must combine a good understanding of science, mathematics, and computers with a good knowledge of current technology. At the high school level, the emphasis is on mathematics. Two years of algebra plus courses in geometry and trigonometry generally are required. In addition to the sciences and math, engineers need good communication skills, so don't neglect the liberal arts and humanities. In addition, remember that many of the large industrial firms that employ mechanical engineers are......

It is necessary that the dimensions, shape and mutual position of surfaces of individual parts of mechanical engineering products are kept within a certain accuracy to achieve their correct and reliable functioning. Routine production processes do not allow maintenance (or measurement) of the given geometrical properties with absolute accuracy. Actual surfaces of the produced parts therefore differ from ideal surfaces prescribed in drawings. Deviations of actual surfaces are divided into four groups to enable assessment, prescription and checking of the permitted inaccuracy during production: • Dimensional deviations • Shape deviations • Position deviations • Surface roughness deviations This toll includes the first group and can therefore be used to determine dimensional tolerances and deviations of machine parts. ......

Mechanical Engineers

...Mechanical Engineers Mechanical Engineers are often what people picture when they hear the word engineer. This is partly because mechanical engineering is known as the engineering discipline with the broadest applications. Whether it is roller coasters, car engines, or computer keyboards, it is likely that a mechanical engineer was involved in its design. To be more specific, mechanical engineers work with any process involving moving parts. This includes the motor that pulls the rollercoaster car up track, the axles that allow cars to drive down the road and so much more. Mechanical engineers design every part of the piece of machinery so that it can perform the intended task efficiently. Performing tests to calculate how large a piston in an engine needs to be to produce a certain amount of power is one example of a task that may be assigned to a mechanical engineer. One notable innovation in the automotive industry is the Tesla Model S sedan, one of a few successful electric cars in the past few years. Featuring a range of over 200 miles and the handling of a sport sedan, the electric Model S is able to outperform its gasoline powered rivals in many ways. One notable area is safety. The mechanical engineers designed the frame so that it received a near perfect score in every crash safety test conducted by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Association (See Figure 1). This has set a new standard for not only electric vehicles, but all vehicles to ensure safety in......

Mechanical Philosophy

...Mechanical Philosophy During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, natural philosophers were starting to reject Aristotelianism and began finding other forms of natural philosophy to study and believe in. One of the popular philosophies in the seventeenth century was mechanical philosophy. “Mechanical Philosophy sought to explain all natural phenomena in the terms of matter and motion without recourse to any kind of action at a distance (cause and effect without any physical contact) (Mechanical Philosophy).” This paper will go into detail about the mechanical philosophy’s background, advocates of the philosophy and later developments. The mechanical philosophy was foreshadowed in Galileo and Kepler. As the seventeenth century was coming to an end, the general public agreed that the universe was made up of small solid corpuscles, which moved and changed in direction as they were bumped by each other. The material atom was in favor of the mechanical philosophy. This philosophy originated from the views of the Greek philosopher Epicurus. He always looked for the main key for a good life. “Epicurus believed that the greatest sources of human unhappiness, apart from bodily pain, are fear of the gods and anxiety about punishment after death (“Mechanical Philosophy”).” His version of atomism is how the conclusion of a human soul is material, composed of atoms that are very small came up in science. Soon after Epicurus claimed this was true he exposed that the......

...necessary for the job. The best way to identify relevant talents is to study your best. The Right Stuff Perhaps nothing better illustrates the need to place talent over experience, determination or intelligence than the Mercury Space Program. Faced with the race for space, seven men were carefully selected for the program after passing rigorous physical and psychological tests. All seven were trained on space travel. Eventually, they would fly six missions. In all, there were two textbook flights, two heroic ones and two mediocre ones. Two men, Allen Shepard and Wally Schirra, experienced the textbook flights with no drama and no surprises. Two others had heroic flights. Both John Glenn and Gordon Cooper experienced unanticipated mechanical problems and both handled them brilliantly. Cooper even managed the most accurate splashdown of the program despite a loss of his reentry guidance system. But two did considerably less well. Gus Grisson panicked when his craft splashed down and opened his hatch too soon in an effort to get out. He was rescued but the craft was lost. Scott Cooper appeared to be so excited about his flight that he foolishly used up most of his fuel flying this way and that. He was almost lost in space forever. Why did six well-trained, smart and experienced astronauts perform so differently? The answer lies in talent. Exposed to the same stimuli, all six reacted differently, filtering what was happening. They each Three Kinds of......
