...I believe that the drawbacks of free-trade are much more devastating than the benefits are contributive. Although products are available at much cheaper prices and higher quality, we’re losing jobs domestically. Raising the standard of living for most of the nation is not worth putting ten percent of us out of work. Not only does it affect our economy but as our book states, "Advocates for less-developed nations are deeply concerned that free trade clears the path for major multinational corporations to push local businesses into economic failure" (McGowan, 2012). I actually do believe that free trade could be beneficial to the entire world. We could take full advantage of our global resources for the benefit of everyone. The problem is, only major corporations who have already accumulated redundant amounts of money can take advantage of it. These corporations are now giving away their countries jobs and taking jobs from other countries to stockpile more money. If anything, I believe this could be fixed through nontariff barriers. Our book explains how we can give adverse exchange rates to certain importers (McGowan, 2012). If we could somehow produce a non-tariff barrier that would afflict these corporations, smaller businesses would then be able to compete with them. I believe that fair trade is a trend. There are one-hundred and twenty-five nations that joined the GATT. Also our book states there is a, “World Trade Organization,” that, “promotes further reduction of......

What I Would Like to Learn from Pshcology

...What would I like to learn about in this course and why are you interested in it? The first topic that I notice when I opened up my general psychology ninth edition in modules textbook by David Myers was States of Consciousness. I want to learn about this topic because I feel like everyone can master their mind and just become a better individual. I feel the first step of mastering the mind is to first learn how the mind works that’s why I signed up for this course so I can gain more knowledge of the inner workings of the consciousness and the sub- consciousness mind. Once you know how the sub- consciousness minds works and begin to learn how to train to work in your favor I believe the sky is the limit after that. I’ve listening to great motivational speakers on a daily basis such as Less brown, Anthony Robbins, Napoleon hill and Dale carnige. They all have one thing in common the say that the secret to true success and to be truly happy one must think! Nowadays people do the exact opposite from that because they are too busy or to distracted by mindless social media like instagram or twitter which does nothing for the individual instead of making them an internet and cell phone junkie that’s just my opinion. That’s just the tip of the iceberg I feel like it going to get way worse. I want to learn more about the sub- consciousness because they say that the sub- consciousness is a hundred times more stronger than the consciousness the .When people believe that their......

How Do I Learn

...Title : How do I learn? “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever” (Mahatma Gandhi 1869-1948). Throughout life humans go through learning process. Learning is defined as obtaining information or skills through observation, study or experience. There are different types of learning styles according to Kolb’s learning theory (Payne,E. and Whittaker. L, 2006). Each individual learns in a different way, simply because they perceive and execute information or experience in their own preferred style. Kolb (1984) describes that there are four learning styles which would be Converger, Diverger, Assimilator and Accommodator respectively. I see my-self best fit into Diverger and Accommodator learning styles. According to Kolb, a diverger learner is good at applying concrete experience and reflective observation. A diverger is able to view things from different perspectives and often learn through observation. They also tend to solve problems using imaginations and carries feeling oriented personality. Divergers prefer to be an observant rather than taking part in any situations or issues. Kolb says that divergers perform well in situation where it requires generating ideas such as brainstorming. They often influenced by others, enjoy working in a group, like to receive positive feedback, and prefer to learn via logical instructions. For example, I had an interesting learning curve during my past working experience as a software programmer. For......

Why I Cant Be German

...wife was allowed to dance, wear short skirts and drink whiskey. My parents received the highest praise bestowed by the Germans: "You're different from other Turks, aren't you?" Different Turks. I had "different Turks" phrases that I repeated again and again. They went something like this: "My parents made out even before they got married. Yes, they were even together for seven years before they wed. They were not promised to each other; their marriage was not arranged. They wrote each other love letters and held hands, on the Bosporus, without a marriage certificate. Yes, they were allowed to go to the movies." These were stories to prove that we were "different Turks." Modern Turks. Nice Turks. Almost Germans. But becoming a German wasn't that easy. When I arrived in the fifth grade, I never raised my hand -- I simply blurted things out, and I did it often. I was disruptive. It was a clear case, at least in the opinion of my homeroom teacher, Frau K., who invited my father to drop by for a talk. Frau K. had prepared for this. She now knew everything about women in Islam (my mother), and about male domination (my father). She knew about oppression, honor killings, and the distribution of tasks and rights between men and women in Turkish families -- in other words, my family. Now she explained it to my father: "Herr Gezer, I know your origins and understand your culture, but when you oppress the girl at home like this and don't allow her to speak, just because she is......

More Pain Than Gain

...More pain than gain Sep 14th 2006 From The Economist print edition Many workers are missing out on the rewards of globalisation RICH countries have democratic governments, so continued support for globalisation will depend on how prosperous the average worker feels. Yet workers' share of the cake in rich countries is now the smallest it has been for at least three decades (see chart 5). In many countries average real wages are flat or even falling. Meanwhile, capitalists have rarely had it so good. In America, Japan and the euro area, profits as a share of GDP are at or near all-time highs (see chart 6). Corporate America has increased its share of national income from 7% in mid-2001 to 13% this year. Like so many other current economic puzzles, the redistribution of income from labour to capital can be largely explained by the entry of China, India and other emerging economies into world markets. Globalisation has lifted profits relative to wages in several ways. First, offshoring to low-wage countries has reduced firms' costs. Second, employers' ability to shift production, whether or not they take advantage of it, has curbed the bargaining power of workers in rich countries. In Germany, for example, several big firms have negotiated pay cuts with their workers to avoid moving production to central Europe. And third, increased immigration has depressed wages in sectors such as catering, farming and construction. Most of the fears about emerging economies focus on jobs......

Multilevel marketing plans have also been classified as pyramid schemes.[26][27][28][29] II. What is Multi-Level-Marketing? * Multi-Level Marketing really isn’t something that is bad. Some MLM companies have given the home business industry a bad name. Many companies will tell their associates to only take care of those that chose to be associates with the company and not just customers * Associate based companies will never survive and in a way they are more of a illegal pyramid......

...them more bumpy and the transport very hectic. Lack of electricity is another catastrophe that affects my community a lot. Electrification is quite expensive and this is something that most people living in my community cannot achieve because of the poor living conditions and the meager income that they get from selling their farm products and working on the company’s sugarcane plantations. Therefore, electricity is very sparse and only the few who have the capability are able to use it in their homes and charge the other people’s mobile phones at a small fee. Lack of clean water is another challenge that makes my community’s infrastructure to be poor. We mainly depend on streams, boreholes and river water. River Sare, considered the main source of water for domestic, farming and animal use flows through my community. It not considered safe because it is usually not clean, but it is used because it is a source of water that doesn’t run dry unlike the boreholes and the streams. This usually makes so many people end up sick. 2) Illiteracy:- most elder people in my community did not go to school and some children drop out of school at an early stage because they prefer to stay home than study. This is majorly caused by them disregarding the importance of education in a person’s life. This often leaves them mainly idle therefore, they turn to drug abuse mainly alcoholism and end up with early unwanted pregnancies and marriages, leading to living in continuous poverty from......

How I Learn

...There are many different ways people can learn. I think the way you have grown up influences the way we learn. There are 7 different learning styles, Visual: You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding. Aural: You prefer using sound and music. Verbal: You prefer using words, both in speech and writing. Physical: You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch. Logical: You prefer using logic, reasoning and systems. Social: You prefer to learn in groups or with other people. Solitary: You prefer to work alone and use self-study. But I don’t think you can put a person in just one learning style. For me I use several different styles solitary, logical and visual. I like to be alone, study and memorize. I’m very dependent on lists. I like using pictures, charts and diagrams to show relationships with the learning. With learning more about myself on how I learn. I think I can improve on my learning. Read stories, assignments out loud. I can create a personal interest in my topics. Make an association with what I’m studying to recall it better. When I make my list I can extract key points that I need to know. I think one thing I learned is the library. We have databases that give you a lot of resource that we can trust. ... redundancy in gathering and distributing information occurs when different investors ask for the same information at different points in time. To the society as a whole, this would not be an efficient way of utilizing resources. CA 1-6 (a) The Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF) is the sponsoring organization of the FASB. The FAF selects the members of the FASB and its Advisory Council, funds their activities, and generally oversees the FASB’s activities. The FASB follows a due process in establishing a typical FASB Statement of Financial Accounting Standards. The following steps are usually taken: (1) A topic or project is identified and placed on the Board’s agenda. (2) A task force of experts from various sectors is assembled to define problems, issues, and alternatives related to the topic. (3) Research and analysis are conducted by the FASB technical staff. (4) A preliminary views document is drafted and released. (5) A public hearing is often held, usually 60 days after the release of the preliminary views. (6) The Board analyzes and evaluates the public response. (7) The Board deliberates on the issues and prepares an exposure draft for release. (8) After a 30-day (minimum) exposure period for public comment, the Board evaluates all of the responses received. (9) A committee studies the exposure draft in relation to the public responses, reevaluates its position, and revises the draft if necessary. (10) The full Board gives......

Why I Learn This

...1. Based on the way this team organized their work on the Finance project, what type of task interdependence (p. 381) did the team choose? Would a different form of task interdependence been more effective? They used pooled interdependence method whereas, every member does their own assigned part. A more effective task interdependence would be reciprocal. Reason being the team would have been assigned a part that he/she specialized in that way you would get a good response and work ethic out of them. 2. Was there a high degree of goal interdependence (p. 384) on the team? What could the team have done to increase goal interdependence? No there wasn’t because everybody didn’t do what was assigned to them. This team could have be more serious about this project and made it a top priority in their “to do” list. Some member didn’t show up to the meeting to complete the project. The quality of the project could have been more effective if the team would have treated it like something important. 3. Teamwork processes (p. 420) are important in helping teams be effective. Evaluate the team on all three types of teamwork processes, transition, action and interpersonal. In transition processes, the team did poorly in because they didn’t plan the process that they were going to face. I would have to say that they did bad in action processes to because no one didn’t keep up with the progress of each other and their position on their part of the assignment. Interpersonal......

Fight for $15 is a Workers Organizing Committee, a union of fast food workers raging ands striking for higher pay.  This organization was founded in November of 2012.  These workers believe that they are forced to live in poverty, because they earn a wage of $7.25. “We work for corporations that are making tremendous profits, but do not pay employees enough to support our families and cover basic needs.” (Fight for $15) These jobs are not meant to be careers for adults with families.  These jobs are meant for teenagers that live at home and are in high school or college.  Clearly, no one can raise a family off of $15,080 annual income, before taxes, if they worked 40 hours a week.  But, a high school or college student can.  One of the strikers says, “Low wage jobs are the fastest growing jobs in the nation, and they need to pay more.” (Fight for......
