An example of morality and decision-making

07:26 PM 10/3/2011

An example of decision making is making money and what to do with it. Money is the driving force

of American society; we thrive on capitalism (an ideology that the free market and entrepreneurship

will set us free). Money is what we use to pay for electricity to power our houses and apartments. We

pay for the use of water, sewage disposal, garbage disposal, clothing, and of course food. Without money

life would be bleak. But the real question becomes what to do when you have money? How much money

is enough? Both are very good questions. I believe during this particular time in our history, that money is

doing more harm than good; I spend my money faster than I can make it, just like many Americans do. The

morality part of this topic is that money is not the answer to the privileged people’s problems (though we

think it is). However, money in the right hands can literally save lives. All that I have to do is give money to

charity. Do I sacrifice that new television to give a little to the extremely poor? Or do I buy the latest one

(even though I already own three good working televisions)? The answer is simple, spend less, save more,

and give as much as I can to the less fortunate.

My definition of happiness

07:43 PM 10/3/2011

Happiness means a lot of different things to a lot of people in my time. Many people consider happiness

to be big houses and big cars, and being able to afford expensive wardrobes from many fashion designers.

This is not what I consider happiness to be. To get to know me just a little, I will fill in a bit of background

information (the abridge version). My early childhood was terrible, being raised by poor, abusive white

trash family, bouncing around the country, missing a lot…...

...Unit 9 Final Project Kaplan University Exploring the 1960’s: An Interdisciplinary Approach Unit 9 Final Project The year is 2325, and I, archaeologist extraordinaire, have been summoned to view the contents of a strange sealed capsule that was found buried outside what used to be our nations capital. I have seen these capsules before but have never had the opportunity to be the first to analyze what is in side. Many of the capsules that I have read about before have had a brief glimpse of history and how things used to be during a certain time period. The first item found when opening the time capsule from the 1960’s is The Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was waged from 1961 until 1975 ("Battlefield: Vietnam,"). The Vietnam War cost over $150 Billion and lost over 58,000 American lives (Van Buren, 1991). The Vietnam War was such a big part of the 1960’s; it is almost impossible to no it include it in any time capsule representing the 1960’s. The second item found in the time capsule is the civil rights movement. The civil rights movement was a movement started to create equality between white people and black people. The fight for racial equality started in 1954 is still going on today (Brunner & Haney, 2007). The Third item removed from the time capsule is the band The Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead provided the sound track for the psychedelic movement of the 1960’s, creating 23 albums over 24 years ("Grateful dead discography," 2013). The fourth......

...Unit 9 Final Project 1 MT359: Advertising in the 21st Century January 15, 2013 The product that I have decided to market is 3M Thinsilated hats, gloves and scarves. The reason that I chose the product is evident. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I have spent the last thirty-nine years braving Chicago winters. These winters are the stuff of legend. Chicago is better known by tourist as “The Windy City”. Chicago earned the nickname of the Windy City because of from the chilly gusts of wind coming off Lake Michigan. All Chicagoans know that early fall and winter mornings can be unbearable without some form of protection from the wind. Keep in mind that large numbers of the population of the city ride public transportation every day. This is common for such a large metropolitan city. The Chicago Transit Authority estimates their daily ridership to be approximately 2,209,000 rides (Transitchicago.com, 2011). This is broken down by the different means of public transportation offered. The averages are as followed. CTA Rail Ridership: 680,000 rides, Bus Ridership: 1,068,000 rides, Metra Ridership: 336,000, PACE Ridership: 125,000, Total daily ridership in Chicago: 2,209,000 (Transitchicago.com, 2011). This is a lot of riders. All of these riders need to be protected from the elements as they wait on the cold streets for the public transports to arrive. As we all know, it gets pretty cold in Chicago. Between the months of December and February...

...Valerie Coakley PS220-03: Child and Adolescent Psychology June 22, 2010 Unit 9 Final Project: Urie Bronfenbrenner developed the ecological systems theory to explain how everything in a child and the child's environment affects how a child grows and develops. He labeled different aspects or levels of the environment that influence children's development, including the microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem, and the macrosystem (Bukatko, 2008). Bronfenbrenner’s theory stresses the need to understand how children develop in everyday life. The development issue I chose to discuss is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and how the surroundings and everyday life affects the development. There are different characteristics that accompany FAS in the different stages of a child's life. "At birth, infants with intrauterine exposure to alcohol frequently have low birth rate; pre-term delivery; a small head circumference; and the characteristic facial features of the eyes, nose, and mouth" (Phelps, 1995, p. 204). Some of the facial abnormalities that are common of children with FAS are: microcephaly, small eye openings, broad nasal bridge, flattened mid-faces, thin upper lip, skin folds at the corners of the eyes, indistinct groove on the upper lip, and an abnormal smallness of the lower jaw (Wekselman, Spiering, Hetteberg, Kenner, & Flandermeyer, 1995; Phelps, 1995). These infants also display developmental delays, psychomotor......

Unit 9 Project – Fantastic Voyage

...Unit 9 Project – Fantastic Voyage HS130 - 04 June 19, 2012 Fantastic Voyage Good afternoon everyone!   This is Lisa back again with another top health news story. Once again I will be taking my mini-sub through the miniaturization process making us only 8 microns long and traveling through the human body. Today we will be swallowed by a 55 year old man, Mr. Smith, who is currently eating a hamburger, French fries, and enjoying a nice cold root beer. Our goal today is to monitor the digestion of Mr. Smith’s meal through the gastrointestinal tract. As we progress through the body, I will be describing all the major structures that we go through as well as describing what happens to the meal as it goes through the digestion process. Let’s get started. We are going to begin our journey by watching how the food is digested via the gastrointestinal pathway and the urinary pathway. Starting with the digestive system, the food will begin to be digested in the mouth where food is acted upon by saliva and enzymes like amylase (WiseGeek, Digestive System, 2012). The brain has a reflex that triggers the flow of saliva into our mouths when we see or even think of food (WiseGeek, Digestive System, 2012). There are three major salivary glands that are involved in this process: the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands. These glands function to secrete saliva into our mouths in order to keep it moist, lubricate and bind our food to begin the digestion process, and...

... Kaplan University Arsianna Walker Comp II Final Project “Fear, which, in turn, is utilized as a rationalization for discrimination and prejudice” (Akhtar, 2014). According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics since 1990 an average of 590,400 inmates have been released annually from federal/state prisons. The amount of people that have been incarcerated is a multiplying number yearly in this country. America should be more tolerant if not accepting to the idea of convicted felon’s reintegration in to society. It is disheartening that people still live in fear or look down on others whom have had to be incarcerated. If we overcome our discriminations against convicted felons, they can successfully re-enter society, and become productive law abiding citizens. Imagine applying for job after job, with no luck at all even though your credentials qualify you. With no income to provide much less survive, how can anyone make it? The opportunity that someone with a clean criminal history has is incomparable to that of someone with even just one prior conviction. Jobs as well as housing are not as easily attained by a convicted felon. I myself would not know what to do or how to handle the heavy weight of re-entering society. I am not one to make excuses, pacify or enable anyone. This is a real issue that families are suffering the consequences of. Unfortunately the view on imprisonment has been distorted by society ideas to label it as a way to lock up a “bad person and......

... Unit 9 Final Project Jasmine Good Kaplan University SC300 -21 Kathleen McKee June 17, 2012 Unit 9 Final Project I came home on Sunday night after out being out with some friends for dinner. It had already been dark for a few hours, so I figured my dog would be lying on the other side waiting as usual. I didn’t want to trip or fall on him; I didn’t want to hurt myself or him, so when I unlocked the front door the first thing I did was reach into the doorway and felt for the light switch to the right. I wanted to turn the light on in the in the foyer before walking in so that I could see where I was going, and where he was lying, but when I flipped the switch nothing happened. I had a situation. Why wasn’t my light working and how was I going to fix it? I went back to the car and grabbed a flashlight from my trunk. First, I had to identify my problem; I had no light in the dark. Next, I mentally compiled data relevant to the situation; I flipped the light switch and nothing happened. I then had a few different hypotheses. One, the light bulb was burned out. Two, there may have been a blown fuse, or three my bill payment was not received by the electric company. In order for me to figure out which, if any, of my hypotheses were correct, I had a few experiments to perform. First, I walked to the room closest to the front door which was the dining room and turned the light switch on; the light came on; therefore, I believe that my bill payment had......
