Understanding your own value and preferences can help you appreciate what types of careers might be a good fit for you. While your standards and preferences are only two pieces of the puzzle, they can have an immense impact on not only what you do as a career, but how and where you do it. This paper will examine my approach to achieving success in the future based on the Intentional Change Theory and how I will improve upon my strengths and weaknesses to better my career goals.

Richard Boyatzis, a professor at Case Western Reserve University, developed the Intentional Change Theory as part of his work on individual and organizational change. According to Boyatzis (2006), the Intentional Change Theory “describes the essential components and process of desirable, sustainable change in one’s behavior, thoughts, feelings, and perceptions” (p. 609, 610). There are five steps to this theory in which I think that I could potentially have success.

Change is never easy, but is necessary to improve upon your career if you have discovered that you have weaknesses and also to improve upon your strengths also. But, if you are not prepared to change, this will not come easy. Because I am willing to make this transformation, I think that I will be fruitful in my attempt.

The first step is to discover your ideal self. Most times, there is a difference in where we are in life and where we would eventually like to be. This is where the intentional change comes into play. We must first figure out our goals, both long and short term and what we need to do to change to get to that point.

The next step is to discover your real self. I took the WPI Career Transition Report to find out exactly what my strengths and weaknesses are and what their suggestions are on how to change those for the better. I found that my strengths were independence, leadership, dependability and rule following. However, I was quite surprised to find that my worst weaknesses were self-control, teamwork, empathy and analytical thinking.

Step three is to create your learning agenda or your personal agenda plan. I think that I need to work on my weaknesses first because without that, I cannot improve any of my strengths. I believe that knowing my strengths and weaknesses is the first step in the right direction so that I can work on each with a different approach.

The next step is putting the plan into action and practicing new habits. One of my weaknesses was teamwork and I had always thought that I was a team player. That will be the first for me to change. I am going to put my best foot forward and volunteer for more group work to put myself out there for the new plan to work.

And finally, the last step tells us to get support. Not only will I be depending on my friends and family to help me make this change, I think that building a solid work relationship with my co-workers will greatly impact my success for the future.

In conclusion, I think that if I were to put this plan into action, I will be able to further my career and have a much better chance for success.

Strengths and Weaknesses

...1. In my point of view, I think that Biolife’s startup mainly illustrates the Type C startup idea. The reason why I think it illustrates the type C idea is because there already is a First Aid market existing in our environment; however Biolife is a new improvement to the existing market. Type C ideas are usually known for their special features and improved characteristics in existing products. This could be based on Biolife, since Biolife’s main and improved feature is the stopping of bleeding within seconds. 2. In Biolife’s case, I think that the QR idea came from both Accidental discoveries and Deliberate Search, according to the story conceded by Goodman. In the case of Accidental discovery, then the story of Paterson pricking his finger accidentally abides with this one. The reason so, is because he was experimenting on the two ingredients of Resin and Salt, and decided to try out the effect of the combination on his cut, hence realized his invention. However in the case of the deliberate search, then this abides to the story of him slicing his finger deliberately. In this case, he sliced his finger in order to try out the combination on his accident and check it if had an effect on his cut, in which it did. 3. In my opinion, I think that the founders (Paterson and Thompson) followed more of an inside-out approach to identify this business opportunity. In regards to their resources, then we can relate this to QR since they had both their tangible and intangible......

Mcdonald’s Strengths and Weaknesses

...unique taste and smell of food gets children addicted. McDonald’s has been able to develop a product that is distinguishable and consistent since the 1940’s. McDonald’s success has grown over the years to the point where they have 33,000 restaurants in 118 countries and more than 14,000 in the States. Their marketing strategy is very positive. They post new advertisements on television and billboard when they have new products or promotions. Even with all the strengths mentioned earlier, McDonald’s is not perfect. Like any international company in the food industry, there are competitors that find a way to benefit themselves by finding their competition’s weaknesses and making it their strengths. Subway, a fast food restaurant, found a way to make healthy food in a low cost and convenient way. They pride themselves on their fresh ingredients and assembly line efficiency. Subway gained such a large market share in the fast food industry by providing their customers with a product that none of the competitors such as Mcdonald’s, Burger King, KFC and Wendy’s could provide. Personal Leadership Strengths and Weaknesses

...Personal Leadership Strength and Weakness Analysis Leadership (SAT2) – Task 2, Part D Course Mentor: Dwane Thomas September 5, 2012 D-1. Strengths One of the strengths that were reiterated more than once during my peer evaluation was the fact that I was able to communicate well. As the facilitator of my group, I was given feedback stating that I communicated “effectively,” had “meaningful ideas” and facilitated the group with a “great sense of direction.” I believe my strength of being able to communicate well with my team members is an asset that I can possess within a working environment. Communication is a strong suite because it allows a person to not only understand situations, but also keep others aware as well. Within our group setting, by sending out a group email on a weekly basis to make the team aware of where we stand and what we have to do next, I was able to not only confirm for myself the timeline and goals we had to abide by, but also keep the team members on the same page as me. This act of communication would be tremendously helpful in a working environment because it shows a sense of direction, organizational skills, commitment to the group, and also participation within a team setting. Since in a working environment a person needs to be aware of a multitude of group settings (management team, co-workers, employees of other departments, associated agencies/clients of the company, etc.), facilitating communication is important for the......

Strengths and Weaknesses of Biological Positivism

...Strengths and Weaknesses of Biological Explanations of Criminal Behaviour Positivist criminology began towards the late 18th century and early 19th century and contrasted with Cesare Becharios early ideas of classicism. Positivism which arrived after classicism looked at criminal behaviour from a completely different perspective. Positivism looked at the offender rather than that of the crime. Positivism can be separated into three main areas, Biological, Psychological and Sociological. These three areas give explanations on why the offender commits acts of criminal activity and also help to provide answers to why there is crime in society. In this essay there will be analysis on the biological theory to positivism. In doing so theorists such as Cesare Lombroso, Hans Brunner and Gall will be explored in an aim to explain the strengths and weaknesses of their theories. This essay will feature an insight towards outlining positivism by expressing knowledge into the biological side of the subject. Biological positivism was focused on the ideas put forward that criminals were born bad. Work by Italian Professor and criminologist Cesare Lombroso spoke about activism and how criminals were people who had not evolved sufficiently enough from our earlier ancestors. The idea criminals not evolving was based on representations of Charles Darwin’s study of evolution and how criminals could in fact be those who are underdeveloped. Lombroso’s ideas were that activism was operational in......

How to Best Improve My Professional Sports Team

...How to best improve my professional sports team The offseason should be the most productive time of the year for any team, in any sport. It has proven to make or break teams, time and time again. As a coach of a very successful MLS soccer team, my focus will be centered on improving the following three points; team dynamics, group cohesion, and individual leadership. By optimizing all three of these characteristics I hope to build a much stronger team and win the league championship. My first point is focused on enhancing team dynamics. The first step in this is making my group of individuals feel as if they are a team of one, and not just a group of athletes who happen to be on the same team. As the text states, “Although all teams are groups, not all groups can be considered teams (Weinberg & Gould 2011).” In order to turn my group of athletes into a team I must first focus on creating a productive environment. This includes building social support amongst teammates. In order to accomplish this I might hold team meetings before and after every practice in which I encourage teammates to talk about on or off field pressures or experiences. In doing this I am strengthening the teams listening support as well as their emotional support. I might also try to improve my team’s distinctiveness in order to improve their unity. I might introduce a new nickname for this group of guys, or maybe design an emblem or logo, anything to set my team apart from any other team, past or...

...Kudler Strengths and Weaknesses FIN-370 April 28, 2011 Dennis Hoerr Kudler Strengths and Weaknesses Corporations make difficult decisions every day about the growth of its company. Some of the biggest decisions are how to expand the business to reach new customers in new locations. Kudler Fine Foods has three options to choose from for its expansion, going public through an IPO, acquiring another organization in the same industry or merging with another organization. There are risk and benefits in each of the options mentioned. IPOs are extremely expensive and a typical firm may spend 15% to 25% of the money raised on expenses directly connected to the IPO (Keon, Martin, Petty, and Scott, 2005). The other two options can be just as risky and can cause a dramatic lose of loyal customers. Kathy Kudler has established a well-defined organization that has expanded to three stores in California. Kudler Fine Foods prides itself in serving upscale specialty foods with an assortment of wine and cheese products. Several strengths and weaknesses require an in-depth analysis before Kudler fine foods decides on taking the next step toward company growth. Kudler Fine Foods maintains several strengths that position the company for expansion. Since their inception, Kudler Fine Foods tapped into a market that exhibited high growth potential. My Personal Strengths and Weaknesses

...My Personal Strengths and Weaknesses GEN 195 September 24, 2013 Louise Gerdes My Personal Strength and Weaknesses The most common thing employees will ask a potential employee in an interview is “What are some of your common strengths and weaknesses?” I despise this question simply because thinking about my strengths and weaknesses is not something I randomly stop and think about too often. However, that challenge was brought up in my GEN 195 class at the University of Phoenix. The only difference was that I was provided the proper resources/surveys to help me accurately recognize what some of my strengths and some of my weaknesses are. It ultimately came down to that even though my strength is organization, I struggle with writing and procrastination, so I will have to develop a set of skills in order to advance in these two areas. In order to succeed in my college career and take the next step toward my career choice of criminal justice, I know I will have to work on one of my weaknesses, which is writing. I know that writing is stressed to be important in my career choice, so taking a workshop to improve my writing skills will help me in the future. Nevertheless, I know that my academic writing will differ from the writing I will be expected to do in my career choice, so it would help me significantly if I took the time to re-read Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 of Your College Experience: Strategies of Success. I can both improve my chances of...

Strengths and Weaknesses

...Strengths and Weaknesses Essay A person’s strengths and weaknesses reflect their overall character and ability to lead. When looking at my character, it is important to consider all of my qualities, whether they are good or bad. For example, I consider leadership to be a large part of my personal identity. Since leadership is one of my most important characteristics, many of my strengths derive from it. My strengths are important to consider in my overall personality and the way I relate to other people. An important strength in my character is my ability to work hard and stay focused in a distracting environment. It is easy for me to accomplish tasks while others may try to distract me. For example, in class, I am able to get all my work done on time without being sidetracked. I am also very organized. This helps me to get things done faster and more efficiently. Organization is very important in the workplace and I have an advantage because of it. My ability to lead others is important as well. I can be a role model to those around me by exerting leadership qualities such as direction and responsibility. I am also very dependable and reliable. When working in teams, others can count on me to do my fair share of the work and not let them down. Even though I have many strengths, I also have weaknesses as well. My weaknesses hinder my abilities and are flaws in my personality, which could complicate my relationships with others. One of my......

Strengths an Weaknesses O Utilitarianism

...Utilitarianism has more strengths than weaknesses. Evaluate the view include Bentham and Mill. Utilitarianism can be defined in several ways; the definition is effectively that an action is deemed morally correct if it produces more happiness of all affected by it than any other alternative and wrong if it does not. Utilitarianism provides a clear method for deciding on a course of action that disregards personal confusion. Bentham and Mill both argue different ways in which Utilitarianism can be applied in order to bring about happiness to an individual. However, Utilitarianism on its own has some strengths and weakness. One can argue that it has more strengths than weaknesses, yet in my opinion, it has more weaknesses than strengths. On one hand, Utilitarianism has it strengths that back up the reasons as to why one’s action can bring about pleasure. One main strength is that it gives happiness an intrinsic value. Moreover utilitarianism seems to be in line with our intuitions that harming people is intrinsically wrong. It makes sense that the right course of action is the one that leads to the most happiness and least harm. Bentham’s theory on utilitarianism looks to the consequences of one’s actions, it also is a guarding principle that does not allow discrimination, mainly in the principle of commensurability; in other words it is an equalitarian. In addition it is also not religious; in the modern, multicultural society with a range of religious beliefs and a......

Nonverbal language This one is also very important but often ignored by people. As for me, if I face a people of low-context culture, I will try my best to have eye contact with him/her. Although I am shy, I will use more facial expressions and gestures during the communication. Besides, I will pay attention to the personal space in order to avoid embarrassments. 5. Toleration Because the culture diversity, it is very common for us to put towards different opinions. Even if we have known each other’s culture and understand why the opposite side would have this opinion, it is useless without an agreement. So I think people should be more tolerate and considerate during an intercultural communication. And I will try my best to tolerate others within my bottom line....
