This week’s workbook assignment was very interesting to me. The Anatomy & Physiology Revealed software is very cool. I like how easy it is to navigate and how the chapter gives you a step by step of how to navigate your way through the system. Each of the study areas is intriguing. I was very hesitant before signing up for this class because I have never been interested in this subject but with this program it makes learning so much more interesting. My father is a neurosurgeon so seeing cat scans and X rays of the brain and other parts of the body is especially interesting to me. Another section I find very interesting is the dissection study area. I like how when you mouse over the pins in the image it identifies the structure and then by clicking on a pin it will highlight that structure and give information about it. Being able to search makes it easy and fast to find what you are looking for, which I like. At first the software is intimidating but once you understand how to navigate your way through it you learn that it is actually very user friendly and I look forward to using it during this course.

Another portion I liked was the animation section and the workbook assignment that went along with that. I was able to stay intrigued throughout the animation in order to answer the questions. Knowing myself it would have been likely for me to watch the animation and pray that I remember everything, which is not efficient at all. This way I was able to pertain more information. Having everything at such easy access and not just having readings but more activities and visuals is making me eager to…...

...-One Walking into school after months of not showing up was like walking into a nightmare. I forgot the smell and the peeling paint and the tiled floor. I forgot how the people talk and walk and stare. But being here again, it comes back in huge explosive waves. I feel sick. All I’ve been feeling lately is sick. I search for my locker. All the numbers are wrong, jumbled and unreadable. Asking would mean something is clearly wrong. I hold onto all my books, my backpack pressing hard on my shoulders. The bell rings and it is louder than I remember. I clench my teeth. The sounds resembles nails on a chalkboard, at least to me it does. Every day for two months I went to history class at this time in Mrs. Waters’ room. And now, I have no idea where it is. “Edith,” a girl’s voice says. I turn. “Yeah,” I say to Clara. Clara is the sweetest person on the planet. For the longest time I thought she was super fake because how can someone be that nice all the time. But she just is. “You have Waters still, right?” “Yeah,” I say. She loops her arm around mine. “I’m glad they didn’t change it.” “Me too,” but I don’t really care. Pulling me around corners and through different hallways we end up in history class. The room looks familiar, but a faraway familiar. Like a dream or déjà vu. She sits in the front row right next to the teacher’s desk. I escape to the back, the corner, right next to the window. Clara looks around and then moves to the seat in front of me. “I get it,”......

...Homework and Testing 1 Homework and Testing Assigning Homework How much is too much? As with classroom assignments, homework should never be given as busy work. It should have a purpose with a goal. And as I mentioned in the Behavioral Approach to Learning, homework should NEVER be given as punishment. The kid will associate homework with punishment. This may interest you. Harris Cooper (1998) analyzed more than 100 research studies on homework in American schools. He found that homework had a very small connection with test scores at the elementary level. If anything, the more homework an elementary school student had, the more negative their attitude was toward school. Plus it takes away from their social time, which is an important part of growing up. Kids need to learn social skills. Too much homework causes stress, as you probably know very well by now. Kids need to have down time too! Why does homework have such a small effect at the elementary level? One reason is that young children have limited attention spans and are very distractible. It is difficult to do homework in a house that has many distractions. Teachers need to work with parents and help students find a quiet space to do homework. Most professional organization in education agrees that homework should never exceed 10 - 20 minutes per day in grades K - 2. In grades 3 - 6 homework should never exceed 30 - 60 minutes per day. Another reason elementary school children do not benefit much from homework is...

...become more careful on doing things. The experience that I get from doing things is very precious. It is because the experience that will get is not the same like reading a theory in the book. It really happened in your life. Therefore, I will learn from the experience that I have to become a better leader.             Besides that, I will provide the direction for my followers in achieving the organizational goals. Inspiring teams means painting the clear pictures of what the success means. Although, it takes time and energy to learn what motivate each persons but that is the true leader do.             Last but not least, the important thing in becoming a true leader is acquire more knowledge through reading and make research about something that I do not know. It will give me an idea of doing things and shares that ideas with the teams members....

...train for a priesthood, but his interest was turned to art first by William Morris, his fellow student, and then by Rossetti, who remained the decisive influence on him. He left Oxford without taking a degree in 1856 and settled in London. Rossetti gave him a few informal lessons and he attended life drawing classes for a while, but essentially he was self-taught; his taste was more classical than Rossetti's and his elongated forms owed much to the example of Botticelli. He favoured medieval and mythical (especially Arthurian) subjects and hated such modernists as the Impressionists, describing their subjects as ‘landscape and whores’. His own ideas on painting are summed up as follows: ‘I mean by a picture a beautiful romantic dream, of something that never was, never will be—in a light better than any that ever shone—in a land no-one can define or remember, only desire—and the forms divinely beautiful.’ He had a fairly low-key career until 1877, when he became famous overnight with the showing of eight large paintings at the opening exhibition of the Grosvenor Gallery. Thereafter he acquired huge fame and prestige, not only in Britain, but also on the Continent: he had considerable influence on the French Symbolists, and the ethereally beautiful women who people his paintings, like the more sensuous types of Rossetti, had many imitators at the end of the century. Although he was lauded for his poetic qualities by many critics, some thought his pictures ‘morbid’ and......

...Homework 1 On the 19th of September on the year 1991 in a very small city hospital in Brazil a very handsome boy was born, and that boy is me. My name is ________, I grew up playing soccer and running around on the streets of Brazil. When I was about 16 years old I came to visit United States and it was love at first visit, and I decided to make this place my new home. I lived in Florida for the most part, my parents were always relocating due to their work. I went to four different high schools, and the last one of them was in Boston, MA where I graduated. After high school I took a 6 month brake from school to decide what profession I wanted to follow. After a long time contemplating my decision I chose Civil Engineering as my major and started at FIU. I started working at the age of 17 at a fast food restaurant (Pizza Hut), I worked there for quite some time until I had to leave because my parents were moving to Boston. Once in Boston I found a pizza hut very close to my house and I applied there. Needless to say I got the job. After that I moved back to Florida where I started working at a 4 star restaurant, then another restaurant. After some time working in the restaurant business I wanted to get experience in some other area, maybe in an area that would be related to civil engineering and help me in the future. Then I started working at a Hotel in Miami Beach as an ‘engineer’. Yes the tittle is very misleading because all I did was maintenance work, still it was......

...play in this aspect, the chat feature adds a unique dimension to Internet poker. Of course, you can chat in live games, but if people said the same things in a live game that they sometimes say on the Internet, there would be a lot of bloody noses sitting at the table. Although some players abuse the chat feature, in general it adds a great dimension that allows you to talk to players from all over the world. Internet chat has created a lot of jargon to shorten the amount of typing required. One of the most popular is lol or Laugh Out Loud. Most players use this to laugh at how a hand developed usually in a bad beat situation, but it can also be used as a laugh in general. Arg is another common term used when someone is not happy with something. Some other common terms you will see include: :) :( Smiling face Frown vnh brb tx or ty woohoo zzzz t Very nice hand Be right back Thanks Celebration Going to sleep from the slow play Testing or time Planet Poker offers sound effects for some of these shorthand expressions, including loo where you will hear a toilet flushing, and tyvm (thank you very much) spoken by Elvis himself. You will see a few of these terms in the book. I only hope that no one will want to add "zzzz" to the text, lol. The Internet has created a whole new poker community. ... “As a woman in this day & age, I am in a position to ask a man what can you do for me that I can’t do for myself? I pay my own bills. I take care of my household without the help of any man…or woman for that matter. I am in the position to ask, ‘What can you bring to the table?’” The man looked at her. Clearly he thought that she was referring to money. She quickly corrected his thought & stated, “I am not referring to money. I need something more. I need a man who is striving for excellence in every aspect of life.” He sat back in his chair, folded his arms, & asked her to explain. She said, “I need someone who is striving for excellence mentally because I need conversation & mental stimulation. I don’t need a simple-minded man. I need someone who is striving for excellence spiritually because I don’t need to be unequally yoked…believers mixed with unbelievers is a recipe for disaster. ...

...into why direct labor costs increased despite the decrease in bike sales. Whatever the results, mismanagement, faulty equipment, human resources issue, etc, the company should take steps to correct the problem for next year or adjusttheir estimations in the new budget. The lines for other general and admin expenses and other utilities and services should be more specific. Recommended course of action is to create additional line items rather than use these as the catch all. This will help identify more specific areas of concern.  Salaries and Compensation. It is recommended that Competition Bikes looks into why the admin salaries went up but executive compensation went down. If it was due to a demotion or something beyond control then documentation is appropriate. If something that needs to be addressed, such as excess overtime, the company should consider this change in the next budget. Utilities. First recommended action would be to put this on one line item in the budget with sub items listing how the costs breakdown by service. More detail is needed here, particularly from the other utilities and services line. The company did well to reduce utility cost this year but it is unknown if that is because some of it was calculated in manufacturing overhead, which increased unfavorably. As utility costs typically increase every year, Competition Bikes should budget for a rate increase in utilities in future years. Competition Bikes can also have the utility company come......

...core elements indicate, successful PBL outcomes go beyond the mere acquisition of information or knowledge of a field or subject because (a) skills needed for problem solving are also learned in an experiential way and especially because (b) students also learn about themselves and each other because of PBL’s team approach. For example, students in one study reported learning to appreciate the difficulties and benefits of working in teams, arriving at a new sense of themselves as active contributors to a group and gaining a new sense of higher expectations for others in the group (Lycke et al., 2006). PBL thus presents learning as social and as something acquired in action; in this way, PBL provides the necessary but sometimes ignored social/cultural context for learning that will be used in practice. That is, learning about something in order to solve problems also means learning to be a practitioner, a member of a group who knows and uses that knowledge (Bruner, 1960). This group-member identity formed as learners progress is crucial because this identity acts as a framework that filters and spotlights aspects of the subject for each individual, a framework that “determines what they pay attention to and what they learn” (Brown & Dugiud, 2000, pp. 138). Clearly, then, PBL is a valuable approach to learning how to implement and how to practice lean manufacturing because it accords with lean’s emphasis on teams and on a culture of problem solving, on learning what to pay......

...more commonly used as a way of describing employees or positions (Iles, 2010). From this we can see issues of identity affirmation and the associated status and power that are ascribed to those allegedly bearing ‘talent’. In the wider public domain, the term ‘the talent’ is commonly used when referring to, for example, entertainment celebrities. Here ‘talent’ refers to those individuals who make a living from an ability to perform on stage or screen. In this context the intention is to encourage a search for ‘undiscovered talent’ and, in attempts to do so, the quest often unearths ‘raw talent.’ However, what constitutes talent is very much about perspective and is driven as much by personal preferences of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ as by something clearly definable. For instance, a popular television show cites successful individuals as having the ‘X-Factor’ with the ‘X’ referring to an indescribable quality that constitutes or denotes a special talent. The end result is that the winners of the show, that is the ‘talent’ who, by winning are believed to have the X-Factor, aren’t necessarily guaranteed a successful or sustainable career. This is because they might not after all possess the indefinable, unexplainable and unidentifiable X that will make them successful outside of the talent show. The type of talent that is associated most often with this type of entertainment show, and also with celebrated artistic and sporting ability, is often believed to be a......

...penetrate through the darkness in thin thread rays. The cloud had obscured the moon in the dark night filling the sky with a sense of anger and malice. Everything seemed ghastly and unrealistic. Just then I saw someone hurrying inside one of the doors at the top of the staircase. “Who’s there?” I shrieked and shivered with fright but the dim light of the moon flickered and the person darted away. I heard the sound of branches scratching against the glass as the wind rustled the trees and the curtains inside the house shook as if they were laughing. Whispers of lost voices echoed all around me, creating a gloomy ambiance. Hesitantly stepping forward my hands began to quiver, my heart beat faster and at that particular moment I sensed it…something was following me. My body was being overwhelmed with fear, it was harder for me to breathe and my hands frantically searched around the darkness trying to find a way to escape this nightmare. My knees collapsed underneath me, the hairs on the back of my arms and neck stood on end as I gently placed a sweaty hand on the rail which was cold as ice in order to steady myself. My lungs started screaming and my breaths started to slow down in a pitiful attempt to control my racing heartbeat. A hot, salty tear ran down my cheek as I swallowed in grim determination. I used my hands to steer me in whatever direction was obvious in the thick and opaque darkness with only the sound of my heavy breathing and my conscience telling me to leave. A......

...these countries before they get their act together and feed themselves? I know it sounds heartless as I’m saying it, but think about it closely, isn’t it their fault? I honestly do not care if they don’t have money. Humans have lived for thousands of years off of the land and many animals still manage to pull this off, it’s ridiculous! Why do we have to send a bunch of religious Christian missionaries over to dig them a well? Why can’t they dig their own well? Why can’t they move out of the areas, which are consumed with nothing but drought? Are you just feeling guilty because you are living a better life? If there’s one thing that I have learned, is that you just can’t help people that will not bother to help themselves. And trust me, something, maybe not soon enough, but someday we will all run out of food and starve to death because we were all foolish enough to move on and advance the survival of our species/humans. This would all be washed away over supporting a bunch of people that would probably just as soon let us starve if we were the ones without food and they were the ones in our position. Most unselfish organizations simply give poor countries money to fend for their sick and hungry when they can instead teach them how to plant crops that survive in their harsh conditions and educate people who are illiterate and turn them into doctors and farmers. There’s a saying that saying that goes “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed......

...Tel Aviv: “At first we were told to break into a house… Go upstairs and shoot every person we see… The upper echelons said this was allowed because anyone remaining in this area, inside Gaza City, is incriminated, a terrorist, who did not escape.” Transcript of seminar from Channel 10 News on file with Mission. See also Breaking the Silence, Soldiers’ Testimony from Operation Cast Lead, Gaza 2009, available at: http://www.breakingthesilence.org.il/oferet/ENGLISH_oferet.pdf. Throughout the report soldiers indicate that the rules of engagement employed meant that no consideration was given to the idea that there may be “innocents” and that in the case of any doubt whatsoever soldiers were to shoot. (“That too was mentioned, that if we see something suspect and shoot, better to hit an innocent that hesitate to target an enemy”, p. 50; “if anything arouses our suspicion, we mustn’t hesitate because the enemy hides among civilians”, p. 51.) Note also the discussion on “wet entry” and “dry entry” (pp. 14–15. This discussion indicates that, in approaching a house, missiles, tank fire, grenades and machine gun fire would be used. This method of approach is borne out in the case of the Juha family. Family members were fired upon when congregating in a room downstairs in their house in Zeytoun. ...those who cause these deaths and accidents should be punished. President Obama has now stepped in on this issue and banned texting to all government officials while in a car owned by the government or in their own possession. Now 16 states have passed a bill through congress that has banned texting while in a car. Many Americans are saying that sending a text message while driving is the number one danger to all of their kids. Texting while driving takes away concentration on the road and driving skills, it also causes a person to not look at the road as such when something happens where you need to stop or avoid it then there would be less time to react when you finally look up, the faster you are going of course the more distance you will cover before reacting. Many places are banning cell phone use while driving due to concentration problems many people have, if they are talking about a crisis or something their attention is not on the road and what is going on around them, texting multiplies that and is much worse since they aren't even looking at where they are going while inputting the digits. The worst rail road accident in the US in terms of human lives lost happened because the Metrolink driver was texting and didn't see the signal....
