...Being the first son, he was named after his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. His father painted signs and his mother Odessa Grady Clay worked as a cleaning lady, whenever they struggled with money. Considered one of the greatest athletes in boxing history, Ali showed his bravery at an early age. Growing up in the segregated south, Ali discovered and experienced racial prejudice firsthand, which likely lead to his early passion for boxing. (The making of an icon, page 7) When 12 year old Muhammad Ali went to a merchandise fair with his friend in his hometown, Louisville, they returned to get their bicycles only to discover that Muhammad's bike had been stolen. Furious, Ali reported the crime to the Columbia Auditorium. He spoke to the nearest policeman Joe Martin, who was also a boxing coach at the Columbia gym. Ali threatened to beat the victim up, but Martin suggested that he should probably learn to fight first. Ali started working with Martin to learn how to box, and soon began his boxing career. (history1900s.about.com/od/people/a/muhammadali.com) Ever since Ali started to box, he took his training seriously, and trained six days a week. On school days, he woke up early in the morning just so he could go running, and then he would workout later in the evening. When Martin's gym would close at 8pm, Ali then went to train at another boxing gym. Ali even started to make changes in his diet. Concerned about what he put into his body, Ali stayed away from junk......

...Chris never listens to me the way I feel he should for instance when hes gone to work in the Bay Area he calls me when he gets in the hotel he stays at and all he seems to care about is the stupid T.V. show or movie that him and the guys are watching. You’d think after a long hard day at work all a man truly wants is to hear his “loves” voice on the phone especially since hes not gonna be coming home to her in a few days… whats more comforting, his womans voice or the damned TV?!! But I already figured that one out and he sits and “trys” to conversate with me on the phone by repeatedly asking the same things over and over again so it sounds like hes making an attempt but hes so distracted by whats on the TV he doesn’t realize I see what he’s doing and how stupid its making him sound. He also doesn’t realize how upset hes making me by not taking interest in me at all.. I literally just said after he asked me what I’m doing tomorrow for the 3rd time, that the only thing that could be important enough for me to do tomorrow would be to kill myself and he DIDN’T EVEN PAY ATTENTION!!! His response was something to do with how cool the movie is in response to one of his coworkers questions.. So anyone can imagine how hurt that makes me feel, I can tell my boyfriend, the one I love, that I could kill myself tomorrow and he wouldn’t even listen. I don’t know what I’ve become and who I am anymore.. I thought that I changed for the better when I stopped my stupid little whorish......

...disciple. This is in preparation towards equipping me for the end time commission by our Lord and Master Jesus Christ as He commanded in Mark 16:15 “Go ye into the world and preach the gospel”. I believe our number one aim of learning and preparing in His kingdom is to make more disciples to Him, even while encouraging one another in counseling. My steadfast goal in life is to know the Lord more, walk with Him, and then see Him face to face when He comes. For me, everything in life is a phase that someday will pass, but our desire in this life is to serve the Lord in all we do. Also in line with that, I am learning to encourage others with the utilization of the Solution Based Pastoral Counseling (SBBPC). With the inclusion of the Hawkins’ Pastoral Assessment Model, and defined teachings from Benner’s (2003) Strategic Pastoral Counseling & Kollar’s (2011) Solution – Focused Pastoral Counseling, it has been simply explained on the best approach to achieve this aim. This project emphasizes on an example linked with the SBBPC method with the general concentration being Brody, from Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness (Harrison 2007). It all comes down to the way that Brody’s emotions are not put into consideration, especially by his father. Steps are gradually taken here on how to improve Brody’s state of mind with the aid of good Christian counseling. THE PASTORAL COUNSELING SCENARIO PART 1: THE COUNSELING SETTING RATIONALE As far back as the twentieth century, the......

...WRITE A CHARACTER SKETCH OF MIKE IN THE STORY “KILL THE WHITE BASTARD” You must write a text of about 600-800 words about the text “Kill the White Bastard. Your text must include a paragraph on the plot of the story and a characterization of the immediate narrator of the main story (Mike). An ending paragraph must comment generally on the theme of the text. The following points must be included in your characterization: * who is he? * what are his family relations? * which environment does he live in? * what kind of a person is he? (what does he tell us about himself?) * how does he relate to other people? (brother, Connie, family, friends) * what does he feel about school etc.? Use the tool box handed out in connection with the text. My text about “Kill the White Bastard” In the story “Kill the White Bastard” let Connie her black friends kick and beat Mike up; just to show Mikes friends who are in control. Connie does not want to tell her friends the trough, cause she do not want to been seen with a white guy of volition. Cause if you are black, and live in a black neighborhood or a ghetto, you cannot hang around with white people. Mike does not have any hate to black people. Even after he got kick and beaten so much, which he ended up in hospital. He thinks, that it is all right what some black people does him, he is of cause hurt but he does not hate general black people or Connie. He just has a little hate to Connie’s friends, who......

Holden’s Problem Is Not ‘Phonies’ but His Inability to Accept Reality.” Do You Agree?

...Holden’s problem is not ‘phonies’ but his inability to accept reality.” Do you agree? Holden Caulfield main problem is with all the phonies that surround him and irk him. Reading extensively through the novel; we can confirm that Holden throughout the book is continuously tormented by the acts of these phonies who are superficial and hypocritical. Throughout the novel Holden meets various phonies who commit phony acts. One such case is when he first arrived at the Edmont Hotel and he saw these couples squirting highballs water at each other. Another case is of him witnessing another phony act is when he goes on a date with Sally Hayes but they bump into one of Sally’s phony friend, George. This part of the book really highlights Holden’s main problem with phonies and this part killed me. It really did. The way phonies will interact with each other that is. The main problem that Holden finds with the meeting between George and Sally though is how he casually intrudes on their date and then doing what phonies do he has a phony conversation with Sally and then afterwards he finally leaves only so he can meet a couple of phonies over cocktails. The way they talk to each other and even what they talked about was pretty phony too; how they both acted like they were genuinely interested in each other and what people they knew and didn’t care about who lived at specific places. It really killed me. This also reminds me of another phony moment in the novel such as when Holden......

Women Are Beautiful

...Women are beautiful By Maria Batrakova Group 21 D Free and beautiful, that was how one of the greatest innovators of photography, Garry Winogrand, pictured women. (Here you can see a photo of him: http://imgur.com/AjnXCe6) Due to Art Blart (Art Blart, 2011) he was considered as one of the most distinguished photographers of the twenties-century in America. Winogrand's amazing exhibition includes 85 spontaneous photographs taken between 1960 and 1975 in and around New-York city. (Series of his photographs provided with the following links: http://imgur.com/jNApIzk, http://imgur.com/fY51U1d, http://imgur.com/aTd0ImL, http://imgur.com/R1Jd7J7, http://imgur.com/K1cJdwO, http://imgur.com/MNQWicg) During the 60's the attitude to women totally changed. Inner and outer freedom were explicit, in some ways, sexually explicit. “Prince of the streets” depicted this social transformation better that someone else. Lola Garrido called famous photographer “the maestro of the moment”: “In short, Winogrand catches with his camera every detail by composing and giving natural meaning to the representation.” (Garrido, 2014). But the gifted photograther found the way in which beautiful creatures express their sexuality through their gestures, hairstyles, clothes and some other interesting features, he avoided naked pictures. Richard Woodward writes in his article the following: “Winogrand didn't dress these women in tight sweaters or pant suits, or apply their hair and make-up. Their......

The Beautiful Ocean

...The Beautiful Ocean The above-sea world has many wonderful and beautiful sights. As air-breathing, land dwellers, we can look up during the day and see the enormous bright blue sky with puffs of clouds that look like cotton candy, stars that flicker like little candles at night, and strong, tall oaks that look like skyscrapers. Being above water has many beautiful sights to offer but just where those beauties end another world with its own beauties begins. Scuba diving at a spot near my uncle’s house in Key West takes me to a whole new world. My uncle’s small beach house in Key West is one of my favorite places to visit. His beach house is a sea weed green color, and he hangs old bobbers and fishing poles, decomposing nets, and old brittle fish bones from its green walls. The water in Key West is a vivid turquoise blue that looks like a boat full of paint has spilled in it, and the beaches are as white as powdered sugar. My favorite spot to scuba dive is about a ten-minute boat ride off the coast of Key West. My uncle’s boat takes us out into the deep blue water. It is an old and noisy fishing boat that has traveled around the Florida Keys many times. Hearing the roar of its tired engine, smelling the salt water, and feeling the mist hitting my face from the splashing waves gets me ready to dive in the bright blue abyss. Getting scuba gear on takes a few minutes of tightening many straps and pulling zippers, but when finished, it feels like an extra layer of......

Life Is Beautiful

...Films such as Schindler’s List and The Pianist take a serious historical approach to the Holocaust, while films like Life is Beautiful take a different approach to it. It is the combination of romance, comedy, and tragedy that triggered many viewers into criticizing Life is beautiful as being oblivious to the Holocaust’s reality, therefore making it inappropriate. However, A filmmaker is not a historian, and is not responsible for Depicting the holocaust as accurate as possible, the film does in fact present the dichotomy of life before and after the holocaust, without leaving out the fact that thousands of people were murdered and battered in the duration of the holocaust. it is the honest presentation of human relations, the main focus between the love of a father and son and the artistic form presented in the film that make the film appropriate. It’s appropriate because filmamkers who portray the holocaust are not obligated to depict the horrors of the events. Holocaust filmmakers are not necessaraly historians who seek to portray historic events as they actually happen. It IS appropriate because the film presents, the dicotamy of Life before the holocaust and after. It is apporpiate becausebinigni was never oblivious to the holocaust in his film, because there are scenes that actually show the raw heartlessness of the holocaust. “Life is Beautiful” is a movie about the holocaust famous for the perspective the director chose to portray it. The movie isn’t about......

Beautiful Day

...One beautiful day in fourteen twenty nine it all began, We wondered whether we'd make it, but alas, Allah's command. Starting with Kitaabs so little and new, Das Sabaq, Nahwa, and Sarf-just to mention a few. Through laughter and tears, we learned more about each other, Six years together helped us to know one another. We toiled through year by year growing in our 'Ilm as well, A tear drops mercilessly when upon it I dwell. Each one of you has taught me something different, In your special and unique ways, you’ve all made a difference. So small and young we seemed on the very first day, So distant the memory, it feels like just yesterday. Spending much time with my sisters twenty seven, May we be reunited forever more in Heaven. I ask each of you to forgive me for every time I hurt you, The times I lied to you, spoke ill of you, or upset you too. For the times you gave me a shoulder to cry on, a hug, and reasons to laugh and smile, For those times and more thank you, and continue to remember me once in a while. In your humble prayers, forget not the sister you once knew, And may the Angels answer your Duas with "Wa laka mithluhu." May today's completion of Bukhaari mark the end of a beautiful journey, But let it not end our love for our Kitaabs for the path ahead is thorny. May we be the Ulemaa' our Asaatidha worked hard for us to be, May we be ambassadors and spread Allah's word as His decree. I pray this isn't the end but we'll meet someday again, ...

Beautiful

...Beautiful By Siddiqah Cooper-Famakin I use to once sit and wonder what true beauty was; I would notice the outward neatness and great appearance of others and think that “this is what it is.” Not realizing that the same way they put on, they could also take off. It wasn’t until I began to grow and allow myself to be expanded that I realized true beauty must first begin within. I began to be able to experience true beauty by allowing love to come in; Love came in and saturated my heart and taught me to first love myself. After learning to love myself, I could then display love of immeasurable amounts towards God. When displaying love towards God, I love on His people. I began to love on the people of God by becoming sensitive to their needs; whether, Spiritual, financial, or physical. True beauty stepped in. I realized that it was not what was on the outside, but what was on the inside of MY heart. After God saw and noticed me operating in MY true beauty, He blessed me with a love that He knew would love me with the same kind of love that I put out. God blessed me with you, Olajireh Festus Famakin. I am truly grateful unto the Lord Jesus for you. You have come into my life and helped me to fully define true beauty. The beauty of you and me walking in the Garden of Eden with our Lord Jesus; I couldn’t ask for or imagine more. Knowing that we were created to be together as one, gives the heart something that it has been longing to adore. Olajireh, I......

Hi, How Can I Help You?

..."Hi, Can I Help You?" It was so dark and cold. I couldn't stop counting the drops that hit my windshield. 7,8,9,10,11....constantly missing one, I would restart counting. I didn't want to focus on anything else while on my way to see him. Counting the drops helped keep my head calm. Although, it also helped me nearly get into a car crash. I should pay more attention at what's in front of me. Like the whole slew of cars during this bitch of a rainstorm. Nearly four years it was since I last saw him. Four years since I had last saw his boney frame and unchanged, soiled clothing. Four years since I thought this world was just compiled of shit and dirt. And four years since I couldn't wait for him to be taken away, to see what life is like without him. Maybe he had changed or maybe he was still drinking away the tiniest bit of man he had left. Hoping he would remain the drunk he always was, I pulled up to the house he supposedly was squatting in. Remembering the address I read on the restraining order documents, I couldn't stop repeating the numbers to myself. Stomach twisted, I walked up to the house. I looked at what, essentially, resembled who and what my dad was. A mangy, dirty, and neglected structure. Hesitantly knocking on "his" door, I found nor heard my dad or anyone for that matter. Panic had set in. I felt pissed off. Those feelings were not foreign when dealing with this man. Of course he wasn't at this house. Of Course He Wasn't There. He never was, why would......
