HEALTH AND HEALING AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Throw out the bottles and boxes of drugs in your house. A new theory suggests that medicine could be bad for your health, which should at least come as good news to people who cannot afford to buy expensive medicine. However, it is a blow to the medicine industry, and an even bigger blow to our confidence in the progress of science. This new theory argues that healing is at our fingertips: we can be healthy by doing Reiki on a regular basis. Supporters of medical treatment argue that medicine should be trusted since it is effective and scientifically proven. They say that there is no need for spiritual methods such as Reiki, Yoga, Tai Chi. These waste our time, something which is quite precious in our material world. There is medicine that can kill our pain, x-rays that show us our fractured bones or MRI that scans our brain for tumors. We must admit that these methods are very effective in the examples that they provide. However, there are some “every day complaints” such as back pains, headaches, insomnia, which are treated currently with medicine. When you have a headache, you take an Aspirin, or Vermidon, when you cannot sleep, you take Xanax without thinking of the side effects of these. When you use these pills for a long period, you become addicted to them; you cannot sleep without them. We pay huge amounts of money and become addicted instead of getting better. How about a safer and more economical way of healing? When doing Reiki to yourself, you do not need anything except your energy so it is very economical. As for its history, it was discovered in Japan in the early 1900s and its popularity has spread particularly throughout America and Western Europe. In quantum physics, energy is recognized as the fundamental substance of which the universe is composed. Reiki depends on the energy within our bodies. It is…...

Five Tips to Make Your Resume Stand Out

...Five tips to make your résumé stand out Now that you know you have approximately 60 seconds to impress an employer, you better make sure that your résumé is the best possible representation of you and your achievements. Here are five tips to help you produce an effective résumé: 1. Include a career summary at the top of your résumé You only have a matter of seconds -- a minute if you're lucky -- to impress a human resource or hiring manager with your résumé. Don't make them search for the important material. By including a career summary at the top, it will give managers an immediate snapshot of your skills and accomplishments. 2. Keep it up to date No matter the state of the economy, you should always have a recent résumé and portfolio on hand. Fifty percent of the 8,038 employees surveyed by CareerBuilder.com said their résumés aren't up to date. Any time your responsibilities increase or you accomplish something significant, update your résumé with that information. You never know when you'll need to produce a current résumé. 3. Incorporate keywords Tracking systems are becoming increasingly popular to screen and weed out unqualified candidates. In fact, 51 percent of human resource managers report using them in the hiring process. To avoid the discard pile, integrate keywords from the job posting into your résumé. Doing so will heighten your chances of showing up near the top of the employer's ranking of the most relevant......

Reflecting Your Health

...The term ‘health’ can be defined in many ways. To me, health is the best wealth. It is better than grain and gold. It is more valuable than lands or buildings. You may have millions in your bank account, or you may have vast properties; but if you have no health, you cannot enjoy your goods. If you have good health, you can and will earn a lot of knowledge and wealth. Health is the mother of happiness. So what I’m trying to say here, health is the key or the ability to live our life to its full potential. Without it, life becomes meaningless. From my point of view, it is a great idea for people to strive to achieve optimal health because it will give you tons of benefit in many years to come. We are all very different and complex people. We grow and change as different challenges, problems or needs become a part of our lives. So in order for our body and mind to keep up with this, we must achieve the optimal health. Today, health is not merely about freedom from disease or disability, but it includes everything. To really reach or achieve the optimal health, we must not only have a physically fit outer but we also need a vigorous inner. This means we must stay healthy physically, mentally, socially and for some people, spiritually. I also try to achieve optimal health in my own life because I know it would make me more productive and efficient in my daily life and also gives my body and mind a better chance to last longer. Spiritual health plays a major role in my life...

Health Tips

...Health Tips for Back Pain by Pauline Dominique C. Tarrazona, R.N., L.M.T Prevalence of Back Pain The incidence of low back pain is high anywhere in the world. According to the World Health Organization’s Health Statistics and Health Information System’s database, back pain together with neck pain is second to Unipolar Depressive Disorders on the top ten list of diseases and injuries that account for the highest number of disability-adjusted life year (DALYs) worldwide. DALY is a measure of the overall burden of disease expressed as the number of years lost due to ill-health, disability or early death. The data showed that, second to Unipolar Depressive Disorders, a lot of people affected have lived with the burden of neck and back pain for more years than any other diseases. In fact, the lifetime prevalence of non-specific low back pain in industrialized countries is 60-70%. This is much higher than in developing countries. But any source you find would tell you that it is a leading cause of disability and thus missed work and other important activities, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point in their lives. The causes of Back Pain The causes of back pain are rarely specific or singular. Most cases result from a variety of factors and only a minority of the cases of back pain result from physical causes. These are some of the causes of back pain in people: * Poor posture (sitting, standing, sleeping, bending) * Intense exercise without proper......

Health Tips

...A guide to Health? In everyday human life, we all experience health as a driving force in the decisions we make regarding our overall wellness and conditions universally. Health as we know it to be, is such a complex concept that there is so many different perspectives on what exactly constitutes as simply being “healthy”. As such, everyone has their own beliefs and views as to what living a fulfilling life style entails to be in a state one is truly satisfied with. Due to this, I myself am no exception in what I perceive as my own interpretations of being healthy and how I experience it within my daily life. The choices I voluntarily make are ones that impact how I feel in my awareness of being robust, and how those factors define my outlook of what health is. Every second of simply being alive in a way is almost a tribute to one’s health. How we feel physically throughout the day, mentally from stress, and even emotionally from social interaction are all aspects of our health. One way these ideals came to prominence is from a quote the World Health Organization (WHO) used to define health in 1948, which follows as “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. I find myself agreeing very strongly with the WHO because we experience health solely on these three major influences of physical, mental and social. The outermost part of the human body comprises of the nervous system and how we react to......

Health Tips

...Pecans Pecans are one in a short list of foods rich in vitamin E, a nutrient that's vital to skin health. By forming a protective barrier in the cell membranes of your skin, the vitamin E in pecans helps to ward off harmful free radicals and therefore helps to keep skin firm and elastic. Toasting pecans makes them incredibly buttery and rich — they're like candy! Spread pecans on an ungreased baking sheet and toast them in a preheated 350° oven (or a toaster oven) for about 5 to 10 minutes (watch them closely to make sure they don't burn). Enjoy them whole as a scrumptious snack, or chop them up and sprinkle them into oatmeal or low-fat yogurt. Carrots Like sweet potatoes, carrots come equipped with a generous supply of beta-carotene. In addition to its pivotal role in skin-cell renewal, beta-carotene acts as a potent antioxidant, sopping up damaging free radicals that accelerate skin aging. Fend off wrinkles with my recipe for Roasted Balsamic Carrots: Cut 1 pound of peeled carrots into half-inch wedges. Spread the carrots over half of a large sheet of aluminum foil, and sprinkle them with ¼ cup balsamic vinegar, 2 tablespoons minced fresh rosemary, 2 cloves minced garlic, ¼ teaspoon paprika, and some salt and pepper. Drizzle the carrots with 1 tablespoon olive oil and fold the foil over to create a tightly sealed packet. Place on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 400° oven for 25 minutes, or until the carrots are tender....

Your Psychosocial Health

...Week 2 Assignment Your Psychosocial Health Susan A. Otroba January 24, 2016 After assessing my scores on the Personal Health Assessments for this assignment, I am concerned that my results show I not coping well and more stressed then I appear. Psychologically I am not coping well, my scores were on the higher median, apparently this is causing stress and I am unable to sleep well at night. The way that a person manages stress can have a big impact on the body’s physical and psychological well-being. Stress can effect one’s body in a bad way or in a good way; some of the reasons for stress are to keep the bodies brain thinking about the right things. If it weren’t for stress the body would just keep moving forward without the worries of what needs to be done. Stress is healthy to a certain extent and it has to be managed on a healthy level. Bad stress can affect the body in a negative way; it can actually cause health problems if not dealt with in the proper manner. I am going to implement a few things into my daily routine to help cope with my stress. I have already started a weekly calendar of what I need to get accomplished for the week. This will help me manage not only my assignments for school but also ensure that I am focused on the bigger picture. I am going to work ahead on my reading and assignments instead of procrastinating at the end of the week. I will schedule regular exercise and enlist a work out partner to join me, that person will be......

Tips on Selling Your Business

...How to sell your Business without trying too hard… Not really…. By Lin Giralt In my previous article “How to succeed in Business without really trying…Inherit? Not really….” I mentioned reasons that second generation owners decide to stay in the business. That being said, I also mentioned reasons why it is sometimes better to exit: * You inherited the business, but it is not really what you want to do * You –alone or with a partner(s)- started the business, but believe it is time to move on. This can be a function of many things: * your age * differences with your partners or direction of the business * a desire to retire or cash out at a ‘good’ price * a hankering to renew, explore new business interests, to try something new, move to a new city or * the realization that the majority of your net worth is tied up in one asset or company Whatever your reason for wishing to exit your business, and we are not judging their validity, we assume they are valid for you, we would like to share a few ideas which could prove helpful in improving results prior to selling a business and increasing sales value. They will require effort, but not too much. We like to make you try hard, but not too hard. We shall organize them in three groups: 1) Increase revenues, 2) Decrease costs, 3) Reduce risks. Increase Revenues This, like most things in life, is easier said than done, but there are some basic improvements you could make if......

The Relationship Between Western and Indigenous Models of Health and Healing

...Western and indigenous models of health and healing? Discuss with reference to at least two ethnographic examples. Matriculation number: 1002122 1 Introduction Different varieties of models of health and healing have come into an increasing degree of contact over the last 120 years, facilitated by broad economic and socio-cultural trends such as globalization and the construction of world views of healthcare standards and organization (Keane, 2010: 235-236. Whyte & Geest, 1988: 9-11). That is to say, that through the growth of the mass media and global markets in pharmaceuticals as well as the establishment of world health organizations and projects, such as WHO, models of health and healing (especially the Western model based in the clinical institutions of biomedicine) have been transmitted around the world. Localized concepts of health, and consequently, the cultures, societies and bodies of which those concepts are a vital part, are increasingly understood and shaped through their relationship with foreign models of health and healing. Indeed, Whyte & Geest (1988: 8) argue that Western and indigenous medicines ‘contextualise’ one another. The critical point, however, is that medical anthropologists have found that this relationship is not symmetrical. The interaction of Western and indigenous models of health and healing is structured by power relations of various sorts which usually result in the enforcement of Western health imperatives on an......

Manage Your Health Inc.

...Manage Your Health Inc. is currently considering four unique projects that will take the company in different directions for the future. While the proposed projects all have their benefits, selecting the project that better addresses broad organizational needs is ideal. To do this a weighted scoring model is developed to compare the projects based on 5 main criterion. A chart detailing these criterion and their weighted values can be seen in Exhibit __. In this case, supporting the main business objectives carries a 40% weight or twice the value for Net Present Value (NPV) and four times the value of the weight for duration of implementation. Because the amount of time for implementation is least critical, it is assigned the lowest weight. By assigning a value between 0 and 100 for each project criterion you can see how well each project satisfies these requirements. The Wellness Intranet Project has the highest NPV while fulfilling the key business objectives the most. Because of this, the project is assigned higher scores for these criterion compared to the other projects. By using a spreadsheet we can calculate the weighted score for each project by multiplying each criterion weight by its score and adding the resulting values for each project. The Wellness Intranet Project had the highest score at 87.25, followed by the Web-Enhanced System at 70.25. In this case, these two projects could have been more even had the Web-Enhanced System provided a higher NPV and......
