Part One: Assessment Technology: So I used Edmodo.com/ahutchison01. I found it to be very easy to use and to post quizzes and communicate with my students. So when you go to the website, you will login by picking the student option and then they will ask for a Group Code: dzcbct. This will give you access to my website. I have created a 5-question quiz Place Value and Rounding, which is a formative assessment that will need to be completed prior to every quiz day, which is Wednesday. I will introduce the objective of this lesson, introduce the vocabulary and will let then know the purpose of learning place value and rounding and how we do things in our daily lives. This is a formative assessment at it will let me know who is paying attention in class and understands the material and I will have to make sure that I am giving those few students the extra attention they need to make sure that they can keep up with all of the material that we are going over. The answer to the 5 - questions are: 1. A 2. B 3. B 4. B 5. C

Generation Fun

...Summary Entertainment has often been regarded as a means of indulgence although it can prove fundamental to the development of ideas. Lack of entertainment can however cause the brain to shut down. Entertainment enables s sense of innovation. As a result, numerous ideas are created. Studies show that almost half of discoveries are done during entertainment when the inventor enjoys the task he partakes. However, over entertainment has its own pitfalls. This paper argues that society is becoming over entertained. Generation Fun: Are we as a Society Becoming over Entertained? In a society where we are overwhelmed by bright lights, images, and electrical gadgets it is worth questioning one of the most important parts of our society, Entertainment. Entertainment is multidimensional and could be personal or involve the general public. Playing a game of chess or scrabble could be viewed as a personal form of entertainment. Watching a movie however is a general form of entertainment as the experience is shared with the general public. As entertainment continues to become a trillion-dollar industry, the society has continued to live up to the entertainment culture of the “entertainment age.” The question, “Are we as a society becoming over entertained?” can be approached using different angles given its complexity. I have developed my point of view that as a society, we are spending too much time on entertainment or enjoyment. Entertainment can take an......

Fun in the Sun

...Fun in the Sun? Being in the sun can cause skin cancer. Then why do we keep sunbathing, when it is dangerous? That is a really good question! We humans love a good tan, it makes us stand out a little, and look different from the others. It also means that you have done something different than lying at home on a couch. You have been outside and maybe did some activities. When you think you look a little better, you get satisfaction and more confidence, and everybody loves that. All these things sound great! So why aren’t we all doing it? Well, then there is also all the cons. And the cons are bad. Really bad. So bad that it kills many people every year. It can give Sunburns, skin damage, eye damages, cancer, etc. And in worst cases that can lead to death, and that happens. Then it’s very important that you remember to use sunscreen. If you don’t remember sunscreen your skin can be harmed, and you can get cancer, and cancer is lethal. Sun screen has a huge impact on how your skin tolerates the sun’s rays, due to its neutralization of UVA rays and UVB rays. UVA rays is what makes us look older, they make wrinkles. UVB rays is what cause sunburns. But not getting any of the UVA or UVB rays is inevitable, it’s only when you are getting too many it is dangerous. I personally love being outside and enjoying the sun. I can lay back and enjoy life, with an ice cold coke. But of course I TRY to remember the sunscreen, without that I would get a bad sunburn, and that has......

Fun at Work

...Organizational Behavior Introduction The American Heritage Dictionary defines fun as “a source of enjoyment, amusement or pleasure”. Imagine working for a company for more than 40 hours a week with a team of introverts. This may sound great to individuals who may have found refuge in isolation, but it comes at a cost for the company. Hodge-Cronin & Associates conducted survey of 737 CEO’s. The survey revealed that 98% of this group “preferred job candidates with a sense of humor to those without” (Rau-Foster, 2000). Can fun really make that much of a difference? Can fun make a company rank #1 for best company to work for? Dr. David Abramis has been researching and studying the topic for years now. “He’s discovered that people who have fun on the job are more creative, more productive, better decision-makers and get along better with co-workers. They also have fewer absentee, late, and sick days than people who aren’t having fun” (Rau-Foster, 2000). Explanation CNN Money has ranked Google as #1 for the “100 Best Companies to Work For” for 2013. Why is this? In 2006, Genentech a company that makes medicine that fights cancer, was ranked #1. Employee’s working for Genentech stated, “What’s better than being a valued member of a cancer-fighting team? Having a great time while you’re at work” (CNN Money, 2006). This company had a 5 percent turnover rate and 20 percent job growth. Now remember the year 2006! Google was on the bottom of this list in 2007. This leaves...

Unexpected Fun

...Unexpected fun It was the summer of two-thousand and six, the best week of that year. Summer school would be out soon, I was looking forward to it since the beginning of the school year. My girlfriends and I had so many adventures planned for the summer; missing one would be like a mission on grand theft auto left uncompleted. One day, I arrive home from summer school angry at the world since my mom forgot about me at the bus stop. When I get home, I over hear her talking on the phone saying, “oh yes go ahead and reserve Dennis a plane ticket too.” Like if I was not angry enough, she decides for me that I am going on vacations to Mexico with my aunt and my cousins, for a whole month! I still remember how mad I was. I kept telling her “well mother your spending money on a plane ticket for nothing, because I’m not going.” Finally, they convinced me to go to Mexico with the promise that if I absolutely hated it, they would buy my plane ticket to return home. The first week there I couldn’t take it, it was the middle of summer and it was raining. We had nothing to do, all we did was sit in the room where we would sleep and look at each other. I decide that the next day I was going to call my parents. I bought a pre-paid card and I did just that. “Mom, I hate it here. You told me to try it out and I did.” Since they had promised me a plane ticket back home, I was convinced that soon I would be back in lovely California. Finally, it stopped raining and later that night......

Team Fun

...Case Application 2: TEAM FUN! Kenny and Norton own TEAM FUN!, a medium-sized company that manufactures and sells sporting goods and equipment. They are watching a CROSSKATES video about cross-country roller skates in the LOUNGE. Norton says, “I don’t know. This stuff looks dangerous! What do you think? Remember that bungee-jumping thing we tried?” Kenny responds, “Edna was out a long time with that knee problem. She sure is a good sport. Keith said we were lucky not to get sued for that. Do you think employees could sue us if they are hurt on product-test assignments?” “Let’s ask Tony,” Norton suggests. “That guy you hired as— what did you call him—director of human resources?” Kenny smiles broadly, “Yep. He sure seems to be busy. He’s pulled together all that paperwork for insurance and retirement that Edna used to handle and named her compensation and benefits manager.” “He wants to send Joe and Eric to a supervisor’s school for work scheduling, job team assignments, and project management,” Norton adds. “He started those picnics by the LAGOON for people to talk about work conditions and issues.” Kenny asks, “Do you think we should let him hire a full-time secretary? I thought Edna could do that, but Tony said she has a full plate. Did you tell him to do that employee bulletin board he tacked into the Web site?” Norton shakes his head no. “Me neither,” Kenny muses. “Wonder why he did that? Guess we’d better talk to him.” Questions: 1. Which of the......

School

...When I think about the years that I’ve spent in high school, they sort of blend together and become a blur. I remember bits and pieces it all seems like it happened at the same time. I never thought that the years would go by so quickly, but as fast as it was I still learned a lot from the experiences I had. There were times when I didn’t think I’d make anything of myself, and times when I felt like I could do anything. As much as I hated some of the things I went through in high school, I’m glad they happened because without them I wouldn’t me who I am right now. I always wanted to be someone who could excel at everything. I was always jealous of people like that; I admired them for their perseverance. As much as I tried I always seemed to be average at most of the things that I did. Over this summer I had time to get my priorities straight. The fact that this is my last year, sort of scared me into getting my act together and doing what needs to be done. I am the slacker no more. I will not procrastinate. I am more than an average student. The technologically advanced environment that is ACLC was something totally new to me. I mean I had used computers in school before, but I had never thought there was a school filled with them. The fact that there were all of these computers was fascinating, but learning all of the things that you could do with them was even better. I had a chance to discover new things on my own and be taught new things by......

Lots of Fun

...numerous casual relationships formed through social media. Social media is available to criminals as well as friends. The damage of these online attacks can leave deep mental scars. In several well-publicized cases, victims have even been driven to suicide. The secrecy online can bring out dark desire that might never would come out. It’s a common thing. I see people more talkative in social media sites than they are in person. Social media sites are affecting student all over the world negatively because this generation is glued to social media sites like Jim Morrison said in his quote “Whoever controls the media, controls the mind”. They can’t take a step without it. They spend most of their time on these sites than they spend on their school work. It’s affecting their grade greatly. Even I spend a lot of time social media site everyday. I know its bad but sometimes I just use it without even caring about it. Parents are really concerned about it because most of them don’t know much about these social sites out there. Teens feels safe of putting...

Writing for Fun

...Research Writing can be Fun Remember the last time your teacher asked you to write a research paper on a subject of your choosing? You probably groaned and grimaced, wiped your sweaty brow, and gasped. Relax. Take a deep breath. This paper will show you how writing for a research paper assignment can not only be done easily, but be fun! Fun you say? How? First, pick a topic that you know something about. Do you like looking for sea shells when vacationing on the beach with your family? Skateboarding at the local park? Playing video games with your friends? Baking with your mom? Making money shoveling snow for your neighbors? Playing soccer or hockey with your team? Reading books? Riding your bicycle? I think by now you get the idea – choose something that you already know a little something about and enjoy. The next steps is to research that topic. So let’s take the example of collecting sea shells on the beach when vacationing with your family. You can approach the research from several angles. You can research the specific types of shells that are located in a specific region. You can research the area where you found the shells. So let’s say that you found a conch shell on the beach in the Bahamas. You can start researching conch shells. The first step to research is one you already know about “Google”. Type Conch Shell in the google search engine and here are just three of the many......

Fun Home

... Alison Bechdel's Fun Home, appropriately sub-titled 'A Family Tragicomic', is a graphic novel style autobiography that revolves around the story of her complicated relationship with her father, and the realization of her own homosexuality. It is complex, intelligent and insightful. The story develops through the interweaving of Bechdel's memories of her childhood and the realizations she is able to make in hindsight. Bechdel challenges the concepts of gender roles, sexual orientation, and most importantly fatherhood through her own stories so that they may take on a deeper meaning in the end. Ultimately the question she aims to answer is: why am I am who I am? Secondary to this inquiry are related questions: how does a closeted gay father affect his daughter’s future homosexuality?  Growing up, Bechdel and her father both struggled with gender roles. Bechdel's refusal to grow her hair long and her reluctance to wear dresses, skirts, or jewelry were the opposite of her father's preference for the effeminate; gardening, decorating, wearing fine creams and colognes. On page 96 the author reveals that her older cousins called her “Butch”, a nickname that reflected her success at acting masculine. To her ‘Butch” was the “opposite of sissy… it was clear to me that my father was a big sissy” (page 97). As a child Bechdel was acutely aware of the breech in conventional gender roles that occurred between her and her father and she resented it, even stating on page 96 that......
