Discuss the factors causing the employee’s dissatisfaction.

The main factors causing the employee’s dissatisfaction are burnout and the lack of career development. The employee expressed to Malik that she is exhausted, losing interest in her job, and does not feel like she learning or experiencing the skills that will help her reach her goal of owning her own business. These feelings are directly related to burnout and the lack of career development at her job. Stewart and Brown (2009) define burnout as a “psychological phenomenon involving emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and a decline in feelings of competence about work” (p.386). Symptoms include feelings of being overworked, having a distant attitude toward work, and reduced expectations of success at work. Burnout is related to workload, pressure, stress, and interoffice discord. Stewart and Brown (2009) describe the career development process as a series of steps that helps employees determine and develop in career paths and goals. She does not feel she is being challenged in areas that would help her reach her long term goals of business ownership. It is apparent this employee has formulated a career goal, but without gaining experience in her current position, she feels her time there is being wasted.

Identify which of these factors could be addressed with improvements in the way the organization handles development as described in the chapter.

The factors, burnout and career development, can be addressed with improvements in the organization. In regards to burnout, it is related to workload, pressure, stress, and employees who did not expect to encounter difficult working conditions. ...The first day The short story, “The first day” is about a young daughter and a mother. It is written by Edward P. Jones The daughter is about to start in elementary school, and there is a lot of feelings involved in this new chapter of her life. The girl is wearing a checkeredlike blue-and-green cotton dress, and her mother spent nearly an hour on her hair this morning, plaiting and replaiting, so that the girl’s head tingles, all this for making a good expression of her daughter, the first day of a whole new life with school. The new start of the daughter’s life starts out crooked anyhow, as they are turned down at the first school they go to. The mother wants her to go to Seaton Elementary School, as its location is close to an important place for the mother. Seaton is just across the street from her mother’s rock – the church. The reason the woman from Seaton Elementary School turns them down is because of the place they are living. She says that since they are living beyond the area that Seaton serves, her daughter cannot be attending Seaton. They will have to visit Walker-Jones Elementary School instead. First Job

...Ms. Toney English 093-102 17 October 2013 First Day It was in the month of October when I was hired to Kmart. Now I had just turn 16 two months ahead and this was my first job so I didn’t know anything about working for a retail store. I was hired on as a cashier; that meant I was the last stop in the store before a customer left with their merchandise that they have purchased. Being a cashier you have to be nice, greet the customer with a smile, and occasionally hold a small conversation with them. This was easy for me because I am a nice person, I smile a lot, and I can talk to just about anybody. On my first day working for Kmart was pretty good, I came right on in and they assigned and girl name Morgan to help me learn how to work the register. She just moved out the way and came to my side to tell me what to do as I was doing a transaction. I am going to be honest I was scared because I didn’t know what I was doing, but then again it was just my first day. After a couple of transactions I started to get the hang of checking people out and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be, then again I was just pushing a couple of buttons. ...01/28/2014 ENG: 102 Professor Benjamini On my first day in this new semester I have realized that sometimes in life some events just happen to make us a better person in the future. I woke up and came to Norwalk Community College and seen something that I thought I would not encounter here. I noticed one of my Muslim friends that were attending this school with me being bullied for his religion and the attire that he had on. Honesty I wasn’t shocked by this only because I have experienced this before. I know that racism takes place all over the world but I just can’t stand it when it takes place in front of me. I stood up for my friend and explained to the bullies why what they were doing was wrong. At the end of the day it was just ignorance and confusion that I had to face but I honestly was really proud to help someone out in the time of need. First Day

...accompanied me to school on the first day. Other parents accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the school office. Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to cry as the parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry because I had been to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went home soon after for she knew I would be all right. It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates. The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time to ourselves. Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the tuck-shop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty. First Day

...My first day at college was so fantastic that I have never met before. I used to think about the class in college which is different from in high school. The most things that I was wondering is about the course study to get the credit which make me blank and the assignment too. I was not use to change from high school to college that why I was a little scared when I went into the building, and I saw so many students that I did not know. I was surprised that we have class all day and there are around 150 students in one lecture class. My second challenge was formulating a strategy to rehabilitate these disgruntled employees and preventing the toxicity from permeating the entire team. I began thinking and concluded that a work relationship is very similar to a marriage. When a woman says "I do", she takes a declaration to love, honor and obey her husband. Likewise, when we accept a job offer, as an employee we take a metaphorical oath to respect, honor, and be loyal to the employer.
