...Ethical and Socially Responsive Business I believe that every company should encourage a relationship of trust, loyalty, honesty, and responsibility among staff members at all levels. It’s important that each staff member works together to achieve excellence in a business, so the code of conduct is put in place. The purpose of the code is to provide guidance and set common ethical standards for employees from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the food chain. Some of the areas that I find to be significant of importance in a business are sexual harassment, discrimination and simply being professional in a work environment. Sexual Harassment Prohibited Chipotle wants to provide a safe and positive working environment for all employees, whether male or female. Sexual harassment will not be tolerated, it’s a unwelcome verbal or non-verbal sexual advance, requests for sexual favors, other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, it is considers a from of discrimination based on gender. The law prohibits sexual harassment by supervisor’s coworkers and even people who are not employees of the company. The company has a duty to keep their workplace free of harassment. Discrimination Prohibited Chipotle strongly believes that employees and applicants for employment should be treated without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender......

...Ethical and Socially Responsive Business Some of the key areas of Chipotle’s code of conduct that are of significant importance to the business is the integrity statement and the anti-discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment policy. In the Chipotle’s Ethics and Conflicts of Interest Policy of the Integrity Statement, integrity is about being real and being honest. It means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. That means that you should do the same thing when your manager or co-workers is around or if they aren’t around. No matter what, each of them must accept personal responsibility for doing the right thing. Whether that means when someone is around or not. It also states that they should not accept gifts from competitors, suppliers, vendors, potential vendors, or business entities with which they are conducting business on behalf of Chipotle. When accepting gifts: they should never accept a gift unless it meets all of the following criteria: (1) it is not a cash gift; (2) it is consistent with customary business practices; (3) it is not excessive in value (i.e., is under $150); (4) it cannot be construed as a bribe or payoff; and (5) it does not violate any law or regulation. If you are not sure whether a gift or proposed gift is appropriate, please discuss it with your Manager/Director, who may, in isolated cases, approve your acceptance of a gift that may otherwise have violated criteria (2) or (3). Both areas have an interactive relationship that plays a role in building profitable businesses as well as a well-rounded community. Ethics refer to sets of beliefs about right and wrong; and business ethics involve the application of these issues in the workplace. The universal ethical standards, which involve trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship, are standards that apply to all people and should definitely be held high within the workplace. ...Ethical and Socially Responsive Business BUS 100 Intro to Business 12/14/14 The company that I have chosen to be CEO over is the Cheesecake Factory . One key area of their Code of Ethics and Code of Business Conduct Policy (http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/IROL/10/109258/Code_of_ethics.pdf ) is the first section outlining the Standards of Conduct. Having that relationship of trust, loyalty, honesty, and responsibility from your employees is huge because they are your frontline employees and are in without their commitment the business will not run smoothly. As it states in the textbook the Universal Ethical Standards includes Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness. Caring, and Citizenship (Kelly, M., McGowen, J.,& Williams, C.(2014).BUSN(6th ed.).Mason, OH: South-Western Cengage Learning.) With these guidelines a business has a foundation that it can build upon with its employees. Another key area of importance is noting that no employee has the authority to direct another employee to break any laws. This is important because some employees can abuse their power and try and find loopholes to have another employee do illegal acts. Also, to go with some employees abusing their power having the no conflicts of interest policy is good to have so they can try to limit as much favoritism as possible. Another one of the important areas in the policy is keeping Confidential Company information protected. Whether it be business trade secrets or recipes...
