...say My Life Then and Now As a college student now my life has changed dramatically since my high school days. For me high school was all about having fun and extracurricular activities. I took almost nothing seriously and looked at it as a game almost. It was all about popularity, prom, cheerleading, pep rallies, bonfires, and football games. My main worry was how many times could I come in late before my mom was called, or if my shorts were up to dress code standards. Although those days were unforgettable, I knew that they wouldn’t last forever. And now I’m facing the real world that I knew was fast approaching. My outlook on life and even I have changed so much. Back then I never thought about my future, or what decisions I would have to face, but now I’m always thinking about what’s to come. I take every decision I have to make seriously because I know that it may affect my life, either in a small or big way. To be honest I wasn’t even good at making decisions. I relied solely on my mom to make the big decisions. Now with college, my job, and even my personal life I have to decide and make choices on my own. Of course my parents are always there to back me, but as an adult now I’m own my own. My values and priorities are very different compared to back when I was a high school student. I will admit that I was more selfish and only worried about my social life. I spent much of my time going out with friends instead of spending time with my family. I took for......

...Are you a winner? This training course is called English for Winners, and before you delve into it, we should find out together if it is for you. Do you want to be a winner? Most English learners are unhappy with their English ability. If you ask the average English learner to assess their skills, you're very likely to get one of these answers: "I studied English at school for more than 5 years, but my English is not so good." "I speak a little English, but I think it's just 'school English'." "I understand it a little, but I can't speak it fluently." "My grammar is very bad. I've often tried to learn the grammar rules, but they're too complicated for me." "I had good school grades in English but I still can't speak it very well." These are typical complaints, and they make it clear that very few learners are really happy with the quality of their English. Most of them realize that their efforts are not yielding the results they expect. But instead of changing their strategy and trying to find the right learning methods and techniques, they simply give up. They think that they "just don't have a talent for learning languages". The winners, however, are those English learners who have taken control of their own programs. They know that acquiring English is an ongoing process. It is something that happens every day, day in and day out. They also understand that when it comes to learning English any progress is success. ©EnglishForWinners, Page 1 of 34 Dear Listener, since......

...particularly strong in languages, participating in different competitions, aimed at checking English-language knowledge. At such contests, I was one of the top three students in my native city –Abovyan. During my school years I was appointed to be the monitor of the class due to my responsibility, leader qualities, good organizational skills, ability to work in team, and good relations with teachers, classmates. Now I am a student in the university after V. Brusov. The main subject of my studies was linguistics. I also study foreign languages. My first language is English. I study also Hindi and German. I have taken part many programs and competitions. Studying four years I have discovered a passion for languages, I enjoyed my English classes, in particular my Linguistics classes, and even though they were very general I found those topics relating to human languages extremely exciting. For instance, I realized that the study of Linguistics goes beyond understanding the structure of language, I came to realize that this would help to understand how the unconscious knowledge that humans have about languages works, and how languages differ from each other. I was particularly attracted to your Linguist position because of the job description of the languages used in your company. I am fluent and have excellent command of the following languages-which matches your job requirements perfectly: English and German. I believe I would be a good candidate for the position of Linguist......

Critique of Acute Affective Response to a Moderate-Intensity Exercise Stimulus Predicts Physical Activity Participation 6 and 12 Months Later

...person continuing to be an active person later. The study was conducted using mostly white female participants who were considered to be sedentary. They were given a grading scale by which to quantitatively express their personal sensation as well as their level of perceived exertion. The participants were placed on a treadmill and worked until their heart rate was 65% of the target rate for each participant according to age. They were then surveyed 6 and 12 months later. The study found that participant who had a positive response to the original bout of physical activity were more likely to be physically active 6 and 12 months later. The authors acknowledged many limitations of this study such as small sample size and the use of age predicted heart rate expectations. The use of a survey may lead to sketchy results also. The results and the discussion were consistent due to the fact that the authors made no wide spread claims resulting from the data acquired during this study. This study implies to me that if physical activity was more fun and less suffering then people would be more likely to adhere to exercise programs. If I were to continue research based on this study I would interview the participant in hopes of discovering further variables between those who continued to be active and those who did not....

A Contest for Supremacy

...12/20/13 International Politics Final Paper A Contest for Supremacy Over the past several decades the relationship between the US and China had its share of ups and downs. This can largely be attributed to the shift in strategic policies and thinking that occurred within both countries over this period. The thinking and policies that occur in both countries can be explained by the application of both liberalism and realism. Realism is a way of thinking that believes the state is the principle actor in international relations and that it acts as a single unit with one voice. Liberalism on the other hand states that individuals are rational by nature and if a just society is not created, fault lies with inadequate institutions. In my view I believe that the realist theory provides the best explanation of past relations and predictions for future ones. The way Friedberg explains it in his book the US policy towards China went through three phases which include Containment, Alignment, and Congagement. The first period of Containment spanned from 1949-69 which began with a new policy to deal with China after it became evident that the Communist would win the civil war. This new policy stated “the fundamental aim of American strategy must remain what it had been since the turn of the twentieth century and the days of the Open Door policy” (Friedberg, 61). This was supposed to be a means of assuring that US interest in Asia would be secure despite the rising power of the......

Narrative of English Department

...------------------------------------------------- S.Y. 2014-2015 A Narrative Report “With English we can become Heroes” Everything starts with a plan. As early as August we started planning this whole thing. We started with the theme; we decided to focus on heroism since that was the year of the laity and so we come up with the theme: With English we can become Heroes. We also decided to retain all the previous activities from last year’s celebration and we added only one activity which is the poetry writing contest. When November strike, we started with the bulletin board. We also had our department shirt and we decided to use the cute heroine as our mascot. We make it simple and of course related to the theme. The launching happened inside the classrooms with the English teachers patiently explaining all the activities and asking for participants. We also had the rule that no student will join two activities but of course with few exception. The first activity that we had is the best English speaking class – it’s quite familiar with the students except with the grade 7 students. November 6 – that is the official start of the contest. Well, of course there is the big hush among the students and a tense atmosphere whenever somebody is speaking but nevertheless it’s still quite a success. The students learned to cooperate and use the English language as natural as possible. November 10 – we had our writing contests namely: essay writing and......

English Writing

...Rui Cao English 150 Dec 12 Portfolio reflection paper I have wrote five papers in total during this semester. Each papers I spent a lot of time and I put efforts worked on them a lot. I also did some in-class activities and I did learned something and gained some experiences. Except the activities I did in class, I also went outside and got involved with social community. The first paper I wrote was to analysis a kind of text. I chose a painting draw by Da Vinci. I opened the picture on the website by searching it on Google. When I looking at the picture, and when I described the picture, I included the story and history of this painting in order to understand the picture better. The second paper was museum walkthrough guide. This paper was what I liked the most since it was so interesting and fun to write this paper. I went to the museum on the campus and spent about three hours for observation and taking notes. I walked around the museum and visited the museum from the first floor to the third floor. I brought my notebook and draw a map of this museum. Then I go back home and composed this paper by presenting what I seen and how these exhibitions displayed in the museum. The third paper that I wrote was the investigative journalism. The topic I chose was the green space on the campus. I knew that the green space is not big enough for students to use on the campus thus I decided to asked the mower who works on the lawn area. After I asked him and got the information......

...in the speaking interview. Most people would agree that an OK score in speaking is 5 or 6. Many students now realize that a score of 5 or 6 for speaking is not enough for their study requirements and this is why I wrote this book. Many students spend months preparing for the IELTS speaking test and still find it difficult to score 7 or higher. In fact some candidates actually score lower than they potentially could have scored. There are a few reasons behind this poor performance and these will be discussed in detail throughout this book, but one major factor is the lack of quality material available for IELTS speaking preparation. As an IELTS examiner, I am able to precisely separate the differences in spoken English ability resulting in different IELTS speaking scores – this knowledge provides the basis for this book. There are a number of IELTS speaking books on the market but this book aims to break new ground by focusing on how to prepare for and achieve a speaking score of 7 (or maybe higher). All of the skills and strategies presented in this book are typical of a high scoring speaking candidate. This book is intended for anyone who intends to take the IELTS test; it will also help learners of English improve their speaking skills. It is suitable for both classroom use and self-study. 2 Mat Clark – IELTS Speaking TABLE OF CONTENTS The Speaking Test in China .......................................................................................
