How to Make a Sand Castle
For young and old alike, a trip to the beach means relaxation, adventure, and a temporary escape from the worries and responsibilities of ordinary life. Whether swimming or surfing, tossing a volleyball or just snoozing in the sand, a visit to the beach means fun. The only equipment you need is a twelve-inch deep pail, a small plastic shovel, and plenty of moist sand.
Making a sandcastle is a favorite project of beach-goers of all ages. Begin by digging up a large amount of sand (enough to fill at least six pails) and arranging it in a pile. Then, scoop the sand into your pail, patting it down and leveling it off at the rim as you do. You can now construct the towers of your castle by placing one pail full of sand after another face down on the area of the beach that you have staked out for yourself. Make four towers, placing each mound twelve inches apart in a square. This done, you are ready to build the walls that connect the towers. Scoop up the sand along the perimeter of the fortress and arrange a wall six inches high and twelve inches long between each pair of towers in the square. By scooping up the sand in this fashion, you will not only create the walls of the castle, but you will also be digging out the moat that surrounds it. Now, with a steady hand, cut a one-inch square block out of every other inch along the circumference of each tower. Your spatula will come in handy here. Of course, before doing this, you should use the spatula to smooth off the tops and sides of the walls and towers.
You have now completed your very own sixteenth-century sandcastle. Though it may not last for centuries or even until the end of the afternoon, you can still take pride in your handicraft. Do make sure, however, that you have chosen a fairly isolated spot in which to work; otherwise, your masterpiece may be trampled by beach bums and…...

...ENGL 1213 20 January 2012 Paulo Freire takes us back to his house in Recife, Brazil where he was born and describes to us the birds, trees, and structure of his home. It is here that Paulo begins to learn to read and have his first experiences with letters, texts and words. Every one of our students’ first experiences with the written word is never going to be the exact duplicate of another. “The texts, the words, the letters of that context were incarnated in a series of things, objects, signs…in perceiving these, I experienced myself, and the more I experience myself, the more my perceptual capacity increased” (Freire 282). The texts, letters and words would take on images of items of Freire’s world and the more he read the more images and signs would emerge.
Reading was something Freire did by using words from his world, which was further continued in his education. In his mention of a private school lessons in regards to reading was its’ congruent relationship with reading word-world. In our school systems today it is very important to realize this word-world relationship is different for every student. The images and signs being brought out by texts, letters, and words can be very different from their classmate. In trying to incorporate culturally relevant pedagogical lessons as teachers we can include a variety of different texts and literature in our classroom and expect that each of our students will have different views and understanding of the text.

...Susan Hoehing ENGL 1150-005 3 April 2008 Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person’s lifetime. It is a part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorder, or ASD. Currently, 1 in 150 individuals are diagnosed with autism, which makes it more common than even pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. Autism can occur in all racial, ethnic, and social groups but it is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. It impairs a person’s ability to communicate and relate to others, and is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe. Debates over the cause of autism have been battling for a very long time, yet there is still not an answer. Majority of people blame the disorder on vaccines administrated to children while they are young. Many activists have claimed that autism rates have skyrocketed since many of these vaccines were mandated for children. The two vaccines thought to be the cause of autism are the MMR, measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, and thimersal which contained a mercury preservative up until seven years ago. Because of this belief many people have reframed from getting their children and themselves vaccinated against life-threatening diseases. Then in 2000 an Immunization Safety Review Committee was formed by the Institute of Medicine to investigate. Their......
