Understand the importance of promoting personal development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to me is about being open to continued learning and evaluating oneself within any job role. It is a lifelong commitment of learning and bettering yourself which doesn’t stop. CPD can be done through a wide variety of methods such as different formal methods; going to training to gain higher qualifications, attending cluster meetings, workshops or in-house training and informal methods; reading professional publications and keeping up to date on world news. I feel it is a journey that tracks the skills and knowledge and helps to reflect on and evaluate your practice. CPD I feel is important because as a growing professional, you have a responsibility to keep up to date with new research, ideas, legislations and practices so that you can be the best that you can in understanding your chosen profession, provide new creative ideas, encourage and adapt to change more smoothly therefore providing a high quality service to customers and colleagues. It also enables you to feel confident and good about one self. I believe a happy person/staff equals a happy working environment. It can also lead to better job opportunities and enhances self confidence.

To assess the potential benefits to the organisation I chose to look at the benefit of training the Harbour casual workforce in fork-truck operation staff retention and staff morale within the workforce.

In the example “practicing the skill” Anne has delegated a project to putting together new departmental procedures manual by the end of the month to Mr. Ricky Lee. Since Ricky is already working on another project he asks Anne if this project could be delegated to Bill Harmon. Bill Harmon is working in this company for the past 3 years. Hence Anne approves Bill Harmon being reassigned as far as Bill knows the parameters of the project and what needs to be expected for the completion of this project. Now Ricky is preparing for his meeting with Bill regarding the assignment to be reassigned. It is very important to understand the capability of completing the project. Anne knew that Ricky was capable of completing the project given to him as Ricky believed that Bill was capable. Attitudes Toward People with Disabilities in the Workplace

...People with disabilities represent a significant minority population in the United States; however, they are relatively underrepresented in the American workforce, in spite of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. Many experts agree that the continuing unemployment of people with disabilities is due in large part to the fact that potential employers and co-workers still maintain negative attitudes toward them as a group. These negative attitudes appear to be rooted in a lack of knowledge about people with disabilities, as well as the perpetuation of erroneous stereotypes about them. Some scholars and advocates (e.g., Lee and Rodda, 1994; Unger, 2002) assert that training designed to challenge existing beliefs is the key to changing these negative attitudes. Our research sought to test that assertion by determining the effects of a brief educational intervention on individuals' knowledge about and attitudes toward people with disabilities in the workplace. Using a Solomon four-group quasi-experimental design, undergraduate students were placed into one of four conditions and completed a survey that included a knowledge assessment and the Attitude Toward Disabled Persons Scale (Yuker and Block, 1986). Results indicate that the educational intervention had a significant impact on both participants' knowledge levels and their attitudes, even after controlling for gender and prior experience with people with disabilities.
