1.0 INTRODUCTION What is leadership? In one great definition, leadership is the art of leading others to deliberately create a result that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Yet true leadership is much more than that. A leader can be the CEO of an organization, or a first year employee who leads his or her team to success behind the scenes. A leader might lead through official authority and power, yet just as often great leaders lead through inspiration, persuasion and personal connections. It’s not just the creation of results that makes good leadership. Good leaders are able to deliberately create challenging results by enlisting the help of others. They can single handled turn failing companies into Fortune 500 organizations. They can change company cultures. Good leadership is an essential key to corporate success. Leaders' styles include how they relate to others within and outside the organization, how they view themselves and their position, and to a very large extent whether or not they are successful as leaders. If a task needs to be accomplished, how does a particular leader set out to get it done? If an emergency arises, how does a leader handle it? If the organization needs the support of the community, how does a leader go about mobilizing it? All of these depend on leadership style. There are many of leader that I most admire. One of them is Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir. She is a daughter of former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad. Just like her father, she has the characteristic of being leader. What I being admire with her is because she is well known as a leader in many non-governmental organizations. There are many leadership styles on her.

Marina Case China

...Subject: Case 2-9 Coping with Corruption in Trading with China Prof - 24/02/2014 Assume you are the CEO of a new firm that has perfected a package of software applications for medium and large sized companies to help manage intellectual property applications (patents, trademarks, copyrights). Licenses for companies in the United States have sold briskly, at $ 2000 per company for more than a year. Now you have heard rumors that your software is being pirated in China. Ironic, isn’t it? Write a briefing for your board of directors with a specific plan of action to address this leakage of your intellectual property into the Chinese market. We all know that there are lots of challenges entering the China market for international companies. First, we need to consider the two broader issues, establishing if the company either should or not bring its products to China. We have to consider that China is evolving in technology and innovation, and that provides a measure of hope for all technology owners. It is a risk and the company should be prepared to fight it. I am here to address this piracy problem that our company may have and address some certain precautions that can substantially lessen the risk. For example, setting up a solely owned foreign company where possible to manufacture the product is a better alternative, rather than entering into a joint venture. I say that once it provides more control over who has access to the technology and......

My Marina House: Loan Evaluation

...My Marina House: Loan Evaluation $339,000 Beds: 4 Baths: 3 Full Description The Marina House was a wonderful waterfront restaurant that was completely remodeled to a residence in 1992. The house is on Paradise Lake in Arizona City which is halfway between Phoenix and Tucson, just south of Casa Grande. The Marina House is a three story hexagonal with an open floor plan and centrally located high-end kitchen. The restaurants walk-in refrigerator is still operational though we only used it as a second pantry. At 48 acres, Paradise Lake is the largest residential lake in the state of Arizona. The house sits on it's own point with 300+ feet of waterfront on two sides of the property. If this house were any more waterfront, it would have to be a boat. The Marina House and compound sits on 1. 75 acres of landscaped grounds. The acreage, encompassing wall, and extended driveway give more than adequate privacy. The Marina House is also the only house on the lake that owns the property right to the seawall. The house itself is 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. The large master bedroom comes with an equally large master bath with a separate shower and jetted tub. Of course there is a walk-in closet and separate water closet. The Master bedroom as well as two other bedrooms have direct access to the large wrap-around view deck to the lake. The large upper deck gives shade and cover for the continually used large seawall entertainment area. The observation/crow's nest is on the third......

Fourwinds Marina

... Fourwinds Marina has a variety of strengths, including being an attractive boating destination and the largest full-service marina of its kind in the U.S., but a major weakness is that the company has been mismanaged since day one. None of its general managers were experienced in marina operations, including its newest, Jack Keltner, the sixth GM in 5 years. The largest opportunities are the marina's central location to urban areas and its close proximity to Indianapolis' high income population. The company does have a threat: it has no control over slip rental rates. Those are set by the State of Indiana. It should be noted that while the Pointe, a nearby condo development, will be a source of new customers to the marina, it could lure guests away from the marina's sister-company, the Inn at Fourwinds. The Taggert Corporation (TC) owns the marina and the inn. The corporation's strategy changed from development to operational sustainability with the institution of much-needed financial controls and reporting after it became clear that operational problems were preventing the company from securing new investors. According to Sandy Taggert (1976), president of TC, "we had a lot of people up to the minister but none would say yes." Jack is expected to reverse the marina's operational losses and ensure that TC can meet its financial obligations to the state and to its investors. TC is set-up under the division organizational function, with the marina and the inn......

Analysis of Schiavo vs. Marina District - Three Levels of Umbalance

...Judge Johnson noted that New Jersey's anti-discrimination law permits an employer to require its workers to adhere to reasonable workplace grooming, appearance and dress standards, as long as they do not violate other provisions of the law or other laws. And he concluded that despite the plaintiffs' claims that they were made to act as stereotypical sex objects to market the casino, the casino's requirements were reasonable. The law only recognizes sex-stereotyping when employers use stereotypes to impose a professional disadvantage on one sex or punishes a trait in one sex that it praises in the other, but neither situation occurred at the Borgata, the judge ruled. And as for the casino's policy forbidding the “Borgata Babes” from gaining more than 7 percent of the weight at which they were hired, the judge found that the policy itself, which contained exceptions for medical issues and pregnancy, was not unlawful and that the plaintiffs had not backed up their claim that it was only enforced against female employees with anything more than unverified anecdotes. Frank v. United Airlines The Superior Court of New Jersey said the terms and conditions of the CBSs’ employment are lawful for several reasons. First, the court said the offer letter and terms of the PAS fully disclosed Borgata’s expectations of the CBSs, and the CBSs voluntarily accepted those terms and conditions. Second, the court concluded that the appearance and grooming standards are not unlawful......

...and reason for his success. Introduction Mahathir Mohamad Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad became the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia on 16 July 1981. Tun was born on December 20, 1925, in Alor Star, the capital of the northern state of Kedah. His father was a school teacher of Indian origin from the southern state of Kerala while his mother was a Malay. Despite being only half Malay and having acknowledged his Indian heritage, Mahathir generally considers himself to be Malay, and is known for the use of fiery rhetoric designed to invoke feelings of Malay nationalism, most recently using the term Ketuanan Melayu, or "Malay Supremacy/Lordship" to argue that the Malays were losing out to the minority Chinese and Indian races after the Barisan Nasional coalition's relatively poor showing in Malaysia's 12th general election. During World War II, he sold pisang goreng (banana fritters) and other snacks to supplement his family income during the Japanese occupation of Malaya. Mahathir attended a Malay vernacular school before continuing his education at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Alor Star. Mahathir then attended the King Edward VII Medical College in Singapore, where he edited a medical student magazine called The Cauldron; he also contributed to the The Straits Times newspaper anonymously under the nickname "Che Det". Mahathir was also President of the Muslim Society in the college. Upon graduation in 1953, Mahathir joined the then Malayan government service......
