The idea of boot camp is dreaded by most everyone that has to face the reality of replacing their nice, warm, loving, and familiar home environment with military barracks, filled with drill sergeants who are now your over bearing parents, and hundreds of other people of the same sex who are now your wretchedly unhappy brothers or sisters. The amiable bedroom where you lay your head to rest so often is gone, but don’t worry, you’ll now have a new bedroom to sleep in, the carpet is replaced with concrete floors, your bed has grown legs stretching upward to support the second mattress laying above you, and your privacy is now shared with 10 other stinky human beings, all as homesick and miserable as you. The closet where you had all of your dirty laundry thrown in a ragged pile in the corner has transformed into a wall locker that includes a cabinet with three pull out drawers, and exactly 18 hangers, no more, no less. Don’t worry though, in this essay I’m going to provide you with enough information to help you prepare for your 9 weeks of controlled mayhem, and help you get a glimpse of what to expect, allowing you to make an educated decision, hopefully before you have signed the dotted line.
I’m going to start by explaining how to prepare for BCT (basic combat training). After enlisting and taking your oath of allegiance you will be given your ship date. This is the date you will be required to report to your area’s MEPS (Military Entry Processing Station). Immediately upon enlistment you’ll begin regular physical training. The best types of exercise to prepare your body for the rigorous physical regiment you’ll be experiencing at BCT, is push-ups, sit-ups, and lots of running. For push-ups, start by timing yourself for one minute…...

A Disease Controlled by Diet

...A Disease Controlled by Diet Is alcoholism a disease? There’s much confusion. Pull up a barstool beside any alcoholic drinker and ask whether he thinks he has a disease. He will tell you no, even though he may be quick to admit he’s “an alcoholic.” But ask any recovering alcoholic in A.A. He’ll tell you he has a disease and he’ll tell you he has this disease whether or not he’s drinking. Each of them is partly right. Alcoholic drinking starts a disease process. This process progresses when you’re drinking. It stops when you stop drinking. And when you stop drinking, you can heal much of the damage from the disease if you change your diet. Alcoholism fits the definition of disease. Like other diseases, alcoholism impairs your health by damaging your cells. Like other diseases, it interrupts your body’s vital functions, causing specific symptoms. And like other diseases such as cancer, if it’s allowed to continue long enough, it’ll kill you. But as a disease, it has an ironic twist. The agent causing the disease acts like a medicine that cures the symptoms. Alcoholic drinkers actually feel healthier when they’re drinking. Pain and sickness seem to disappear. Unfortunately, the sense of health is artificial. When you drink, you relieve yourself of the symptoms only. Meanwhile, inside your body, a disease process rages. Drinking wears out your body and actually speeds up the aging process. Your cells live their lives in the fast lane of high blood-sugar and......

Analyse the Reasons Why Costs Need to Be Controlled to Budget

...M4 - Analyse the reasons why costs need to be controlled to budget? Introduction: For this task I will be analysing the advantages and disadvantages about the business that Brad owns which involves transporting business people to and from airports using luxury cars and limousines. Addition to this I will also be explaining what the words budget, fixed, variable and total costs mean. One of the main topics that I will be covering is the fact that if Brad does nothing with his costs what the implication would be on the business as well as him and what encounters it will have. Budget: So what is budget? Budget is a financial document which is used to project future income and expenses. Budgeting is used by everyone who owns a business whether it’d be a large or small business; it is a crucial part of the finance side of the business. The process may be carried out by individuals or by companies to estimate whether the company is keeping within their budget and not over spending. The process for preparing a monthly budget includes: * Listing of all sources of monthly income. * Fixed expenses such as rent/mortgage, utilities, phone bills. * Listing of other possible and variable expenses. A business will always choose how much they are to spend on their resources etc from their budget which is calculated when the business starts. A budget may be prepared simply using paper and pencil, or on computer using a spreadsheet program like......

Placebo-Controlled Trials in Hiv Infected Women

...Placebo-controlled trials on HIV-infected pregnant women in developing countries have provoked much controversy since the late 90s. The purpose of these experiments is to find a treatment that will reduce the rate of perinatal transmission of HIV more efficiently than the already existing treatments such as, zidovudine. However, the issue lies within the inclusion of a placebo group in these studies. In this debate, the Utilitarian defense argued that most of the HIV-infected pregnant women in these countries would not be able to afford any forms of treatment against the transmission outside of these trials. The subjects are treated according to the standard of care in these countries (Lurie and Wolfe 855). Therefore, the women in the experiment are essentially in a ‘no-loss’ situation. They have a 50 percent chance of ending up in the placebo group, in which they are no worse off than they would be anyway, and a 50 percent chance of being placed in the experimental group, in which they would have an alternate chance of protecting their unborn fetus (Williams 559). Opponents of these trials defended that this argument suffers from a number of flaws. The ‘no loss’ defense gains its credibility from their claim that the personal utility of the volunteers is not reduced in any way. However, it disregards the fact that the participants start from a position of inequality. Even if the treatment is proven to reduce the transmission of HIV, that treatment will most likely not be......

Are Controlled Clinical Trials Really Ethical?

...Are Controlled Clinical Trials Really Ethical? Case Study In 2009, two cousins, Thomas and Brandon were diagnosed with the same type of deadly skin cancer within a 2 month time frame of each other. To date, here is no cure for skin cancer and once diagnosed the average life expectancy is approximately 8 months. Current standard of care treatments are aimed at shrinking the tumors and prolonging life. Unfortunately, these standard of care treatments only work in a very small percentage of patients and are very toxic with terrible side effects. Thomas learned of a new Phase 3 clinical research trial sponsored by Roche with an unapproved yet promising drug. His doctor explained that in earlier trials, a majority of volunteer patients who took the wonder drug had seen a drastic reduction in the size of their tumors with very few side effects. The only way ill patients can get the drug is by participating in this trial. The trial is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) which means half of the volunteers will get the experimental drug while the other half will be treated with another standard of care treatment. The purpose of the standard or control arm is to allow researchers to compare the long term effects of the new drug to that of the current standard treatment and determine whether it actually shrinks tumors and prolong remissions. Participants have a 50/50 chance of being placed in either arm of the study. Arm assignments are random and cannot be changed. With limited......

M4-Analyse the Reasons Why Cocts Need to Be Controlled

...M4-Analyse the reasons why costs need to be controlled to budget. In my report I’m going to analyse the reasons why costs need to be controlled and why businesses set budgets as targets or limits. I am also going to use the figures from the income and expenditure for the business Hairliners and going to explain the reasons why Headliners needs to use a budget to control their costs. Costs and budgets need to be controlled in order to know what is received and spend. For instance, if costs and budgets are not controlled when running a business, then it will run the risk of spending more money than it is taking or not spending enough money to grow the business and compete. The reason organisation needs to control their costs properly would be that it would end up saving money on expenses and increase its revenue. This will help the company to increase its revenues and this would allow the company to invest more money if required. The business should control its costs so that it saves money and by having the right amount of stock the business can then have the full benefits of selling those stocks and receiving cash which could be used for other areas of the business or buy more stock if they are confident they can sell it all. A budget divides your expenses into overhead and production costs. Overhead costs are operating expenses such as phones, insurance, marketing and rent. If you don’t know your overhead and production costs for each unit of a product you produce you......

Hmi Controlled Classroom

...Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION Background of the study Living in this modern society, technology is very much involved. Every person is recognized with the device or gadget, he carries; that is the result of a technologically inclined society. Eventually, living without technology is like a soldier without gun; that is how people are so much dependent with technology today. Nowadays, some customers such as hospitals, manufacturing, industries, commercial establishments, schools, buildings and homes are dependent on electrical devices and equipment. These devices are controlled by modern technology for their operations, controls and processes. This includes remote sensing, SCADA, HMI, micro controller sensors and PLC. They are used for automatic control of lights and switches, and for remotely controlled operation of equipment or machine. These modern technologies save time, costs, and labor. The researcher conceptualized this study about the modern technology using HMI in the school specifically the laboratory room. Laboratory should be conducive to learning so that students are encouraged to study. It is a room where the students have the basic knowledge in theoretical aspects before they ought to gain knowledge outside. So, the study is focus on the development of a modernized laboratory equipped with automatic controls. Before laboratory is just a room with equipment, many lights, and switches. They are using manual switching of the facilities inside a laboratory room which is......

Automated Cart (Controlled Via Android Phone) An Interfacing Design Application Presented to the College of Computer Engineering Saint Vincent’s College Dipolog City In Partial Fulfillment for the requirements of the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Designed by: Charlot Carreon Queenie Valdez Keomarie Canete Submitted to: Engr. Luthermie B. Manago CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A cart is a small vehicle that feeds in gas to be operational. It is operated manually and can carry a maximum of two persons. It runs at a low speed and is ideal for strolling or for use when not in a hurry. Knowing these basic informations, the researchers have came up with the idea of using the cart as a basis for a design project. We wanted to upgrade the usual cart, and make it more advance, more interesting, and apply what we have learned in our field of study. As computer engineering students, we have decided that we will be using and implementing interfacing and android programming in this project. Disabled persons are those whom have incapabilities physically (either arms or legs). A number of people has this condition, and even such, is still visible in our locality rather than to stay at home. We understand their difficulties in means of transportation and safety, which lead to the creation of the Automated Cart (Controlled via Android Phone). MOTIVATION The motivation of the researchers in the......
