Just last yer this time, I was planning on going away to college. Somewhere far

away from home, but things did not go as I planned. In July I found out that I was pregnant. I

decided that I was going to wait until my child got older than I was going to go back to

school. I really thought that was a good idea. But when I look around, all I see are women

who had children at a young age and dint finish school and are not doing nothing with

themselves. They stay at home with no job, no money and depends on public assistance to

take care of them and that is not how I want to live the rest of my life. I want to finish my

education, get a good job and take care of my daughter. I do not want to depend on

anybody to take care of me. I want to go out and get it myself. Half of the people I know did

not finish school and I want to be nothing like them. I want my daughter to look up to me

and never to be ashamed of where she came from. One day my next door neighbor came

over and asked why I wanst taking online classes. I looked at alot of different schools but

none of them had what I wanted. I gave up on school for a while. Then one day i received a

letter form Strayer University. I went to the website and submitted my information and the

next day they called me. I felt that this was the right choice for me at this time in my life. I

was about to make some changes and my old habits, I had to get rid of if I wanted to make

this work. Now I am moving toward a life of success for me and my…...

...A Wonderful Life Changing Experience Kimberly Manuel American InterContinental University Life Changing 2 Abstract This essay is a major part of my life, and it means the world to me. So I want to share my experience of me getting married and/or being married. I will be informative with how it came to where I am today of being married and how I have learned from prior mistakes that was made in my life. And I will also tell how our love for each other has grown stronger and how we have become closer in our path of life. This is a hard journey to accomplish and make it last a lifetime. Life Changing Experience 3 A Wonderful Life Changing Experience I was young and had lots to learn about being married and becoming a wife, the thought I had in my mind that marriage was supposed to be easier, as they make it look in fairy tale stories. I then realized it was not so easy. I was married to a man that never took marriage seriously and it affected our relationship drastically. Our marriage lasted for only six months. In those six months he refused to work to support our family. After several months of financial struggle, I woke up one day with the realization that my sons and I did not deserve this type of life. I decided to move on and search for someone who valued a marriage the same way I did. When I think back on when I first met my husband, it still gives me butterflies.......

My Life Changing Decision

...MY LIFE CHANGING DECISION ROSS BROWN ENGL 1301-270 SUSAN ROBBINS 4/2/2013 It was the beginning of spring about two years ago- a wet and gloomy day. I was thirty two years old, strung out on meth and homeless. Headed back to prison for the third time, I was faced with a life changing decision, “do I turn myself in” or “do I keep running and take my chances”. It was a decision that would affect the ones I love the most, my children. As I sat in the woods behind a run down, drug infested motel, I closed my eyes and all I could see were the tears in my kids eyes every time they came to see me in prison. The ones that depended on me for love and security, were now sad and scared of me. They were as lost as I was. Thoughts began to run through my head, “have I failed my children as a father”, “do I want them to go down the same path I went down” or “do I want to give them a future and a father to be proud of”. Living the life style I lived for ten years, taught me not to trust people. Especially authority figures. So the thought of turning myself in didn’t sound like a good idea to me at the time. It left me puzzled and scared. I could keep running, but the past ten years had been nothing but a continoues cycle that always landed me back in prison and left my children without a father. I’ve always been known for taking chances. Turning myself in would require taking the biggest chance of my life, trusting an......

My Life

...My Life As I Know It 3 As I sit here and think about what to write down on this paper, I came to the conclusion that everyone has their own perspective on what their life was like. My life was no where perfect. I lived in a home with one parent, my life was a struggle. However, as I grown as an adult I have learned the importance of a good education and being a positive, supportive parent to my children as my mother was with me. My mother was a hard working parent, raising three children all on her own. My dad walked out of our life when I was 7 years old. My mom would struggle to make end meet, she only made $250 a week, that wasn’t enough to feed a family of four and pay bills as well. But, she was a strong woman; she didn’t let that stop her, my mother picked up another job to help us get by. There were many of times we hardly ever saw my mother, my oldest brother Ricky who was 11 years old at the time, help my mother out by watching me and my little brother while she worked. I can remember it like yesterday, before she would leave for work, she would call us down to the table and say “make sure you eat all your food before leaving today, because a starving brain will not function properly. Today I make sure I send my children off to school with a good breakfast and positive message each morning to start their day out right. To me it’s important to stay positive because when children see and hear positive thing they tend to be positive as well. Some of the......

With each experience affecting a person in a different way, the day my life changed forever was August 10, 1990 when my beautiful baby girl was born. Bringing her into the world was the most life-changing and memorable experience, I have ever had. I can’t think of anything else that would compare. I was twenty-three years old, unemployed, not married, and hadn’t always made smart decision with my life. I was petrified of having to raise her all alone, how could I with no money or strong support system. The moment I saw her sweet little face, I knew I would do everything I could to make sure she had a good life and I would be the mother she deserved. Society and Single Mothers Despite the fact most Americans have become accustom with couples of the same-sex or couples raising children who are unmarried, they still see single mothers as disadvantageous to society, in accordance to a new poll of society’s thoughts with regards to the nation's rising number of nontraditional family units. And more than two eras after the hit TV show “Murphy Brown” triggered a public commotion when she had a baby out of; a lot of people continue to frown when it comes to the choice of single motherhood. My Life

...“I can’t believe I’m actually going to do this!” all my life, I’ve always been the one to stay behind when I was needed, the one who was never comfortable with himself. I’ve always been afraid about every simple thing like being afraid of the dark, scared of spiders. Who would ever know, that my biggest fear would change my life completely! It all began when my mom said, “I think it’s time for you guys to meet both sides of our family.” My two sisters and I were very well confused hearing her surprising news. Deep down inside, I already knew what she meant, and I was extremely terrified. I was about eight years at the time. Since both of my parents came to the U.S for a better life, they left the most important people in their lives behind in Mexico. I grew up hearing lots of Mexican myths and stories about their childhoods like La Llorona, a Mexican myth of a ghost woman who drowns and kills little kids and also El hombre Sin Cabeza the dangerous man without a head riding his big black horse in the middle of the night knocking doors and killing everyone that comes his way. I was always terrified of listening to these stories and it gave me an even greater fear since I knew I was going to Mexico. I knew that the only way my family and I could get to Mexico was on a plane. Which brings me to my biggest fear: I am afraid of heights! My mom knew about my fear, but she never thought of it when buying the plane tickets. I didn’t know how to react. I could only think negative...

...reaching maturity were exceptionally positive. In this paper I will attempt to outline the major aspects of my development and how these have shaped my values. I grew up in the Alpharetta/Roswell area (just outside of Atlanta), a sparsely populated yet relatively prosperous town then, now it is a very wealthy and densely populated city. Today it is, per capita, the wealthiest area in Atlanta. This change has led me to recognize and value growth and progress. I had a fortunate upbringing and I expect my future to be no less prosperous, and if it holds anything less for me I would consider my self a failure. I have become so accustomed to living with nice things in an affluent area, and anything less just would not feel right. From the time I was born to when I first went to school I lived in the same area and in the same house. It is hard to say how this has affected me, but I am well aware that changing location repeatedly can have a negative effect on a child. The house I lived in was relatively nice. It was a common middle-class home; not big but by no means was it small. The house we moved in to in 1994 was larger and in a much nicer neighborhood. Both neighborhoods I lived in were very nice and, in the future, I could not see myself living in anything less suitable. Although it can be hard to remember, I did not have any major family problems in my pre-school years; no deaths in the family, divorce, or anything else equally detrimental. Obviously most......

...Carlos Olea-Tapia 9/02/15 Mr. F 5 paragraph essay Standing out I was only ten when my dad first told me not to be like the rest of my fellow students. He said, “The only two things that matter in this world are family and being who you are.” From that day on, I, Carlos Olea-Tapia, took these words seriously. It wasn’t easy since I was born on March 8, 1998, and at the time a lot of things were happening in the year 2000. The media was tough to face since everything out there was either mainstream or popular so I stared to look for alternatives such as listening to underground bands and reading books. School wasn’t easy either. People don’t like change so when they saw a kid like me they would make fun of me or admire me for being who I am. I’m now seventeen and I’ve been changing ever since. Elementary school and middle school were both shit like literally some kids made my life a living hell. Elementary school was probably the worst; I was bullied by many kids until one day I came home and told my mother, my mother straight up gave me permission to punch any kid if bothered no matter what the school consequences were. That day I stood up for myself and showed the world that I wasn’t going to take shit from no one. Middle school was a little better. I made quite the name for myself. By the end of eighth grade I was known as a pimp and I liked it. That reputation continued on to high school by then I was no longer a pimp I was a drug lord. I wore the best of the best......

Life Changing Decesion

...LIFE CHANGING DECISION MGT/230 Life Changing Decision In August of 2001 I made s decision that would change my life forever. Because of some of the choices I had made in the past and the future not looking as good, I decided to leave my home town of Nacogdoches and move to Houston. I based my decision clearly on the facts of doing better in life and becoming another statistic. Being from a small town trouble became very easy to get into so, I decided to remove myself from all elements of the situation and move to Houston to begin a fresh new life. My move was actually rushed and not planned. I had a brother that lived here and suggested I move here for all the work opportunities. I did not have any money saved nor did I have a solid plan of what I was going to do once I got to Houston. I was only driven by the fact I was getting out of Nacogdoches and was starting over fresh. Once here I encountered many difficult obstacles that I had no idea how to manage for less fix. Even though I had my brother here; I was pretty much on my own and left to find my own path to success. My brother had offered me a foundation but it was left up to me build my home. It only took me one day and I found a job and was on my way to great accomplishments. Once I begin to work and get that true since of independence, I begin to reach for more. I enrolled in school and begin educating myself to a whole different side of life. Life Changing

...everyday in the classroom setting. Even more while living in the campus dorms as a Freshman. Although diversity has a huge added value to the education a student receives, it also adds a significant impact on other aspects of student life. Diversity cannot simply be thought about as race, because there are many other factors to consider. For example, there is political diversity. An example of why political diverse experiences are so important in college students is demonstrated within this student’s opinion. "There's definitely a liberal bias. Conservative opinions are shut down and dismissed offhand," said John Anderson, a Swarthmore senior. "When a conservative point of view is brought up, there's a knee-jerk reaction that it can't be valid." (O'Neill, J. M., 2003) This is a perfect example of how some students feel at their school environments. Although, most students are liberals at college campuses, there are also other students that are entitled to different opinions, that is what makes diversity come alive. However, what good is it if they do not feel comfortable enough to share their opinions on certain topics. If the opinions on subjects vary and show diversity, then the environment will develop with time and lead to a more positive life outcome. An article written in Stanford Graduate School of Business states "In fact, the worst kind of group for an organization that wants to be innovative and creative is one in which everyone is alike and gets along too well"......

...Jordan Hollingsworth Professor Appling English 1102 28 February 2016 Paper on Simon J. Ortiz “(My Father’s Song) A poem is a set up of words out together into a piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme, and stanza structure. In the poem written by Simon J. Ortiz is a very touch poem about ones father and how he misses him dearly. He recalls a memory they had once shared together. The next poem that will be laid out and made more clearer to the viewer will be a poem about a mans father and his hard work. The narrator of the story is one that is recalling his past and how he felt bad for his dad as a young boy. As he has gotten older and more understanding to challenges in life he starts to relative the hardship and to feel bad for his dad. Some expressions or descriptions that are used inside poems are figurative language, symbolisms, metaphor, simile, and personification. Figurative language is words or expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation. Symbolisms are the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. In the essay we will discuss the ideas of how the author uses different ways that they have put there thought together in the poem. Changing My Life

...Changing my life by furthering my education was a major decision in my life, do to retirement, from the U.S. Army. After I retired from the Army in January of 2011, I sat back and relaxed and I did not accomplish pretty much anything. During the first two months of retirement I began to grow weary and bored of doing absolutely nothing. Even though a little relaxation and not having to worry about getting up early and going to my place of employment was nice for awhile. I was at that point in my life that I decided to begin my search for employment. I then began to search on the internet and to look around on official government websites. The harder I looked the more frustrating the search became, jobs are definitely scarce in today’s society. As I researched jobs, I began to notice that every employer that would pay ten dollars an hour or more required a degree, in which I currently do not have. Even with over 15 years of military service and 7 of which was basically management positions, no one even gave my resume a second look. Difficult choices had to be made whether to focus on school or a job. As I began to explore different opportunities for college, I also started to think heavily about what I might pursue. As a child I have always had a dream of opening and running my own business. So I pondered on that awhile, and eventually contacted Strayer University. Through much investigating of many online colleges Strayer University seemed to have the best program......

A Life Changing Event

...Yunjie Zang ID:5346525 ENGL 101-93 A life changing event I've experienced a lot of events which had great impact on me since I was young, but speaking of a life changing event, the first thing that I came up with is my educational experience when I was in senior 2 in high school. First , let me tell you the education that I had back in my country.I had my primary school and high school education in the same school back in China, it is an International school , which means I had the chance to learn English , to be exposed to different culture and knowledge since i was young. This is very different from the general Chinese education system, which I will introduce it later on. I started learning English since Grade 1 in primary school, and had the opportunity to meet with different foreign teachers all over the world. Before letting you know how this life changing event affected me so significantly, i need to let you know how the educational system works in China. In China, students must complete a 6-year primary school and a 6-year high school in order to apply for universities. However, there will be a extremely crucial test- the college entry test, which can almost determine the path of your life. In a word, if you do a real good job on this test, it basically means you will have the chance to enter one of the best universities in China, and your future will be bright; But, if you don't get a nice grade, it means you have to work out your own way for your future,......

Changing My Life

...I have a lot of things that have changed my life. There are some that are good and there are some that are bad. I would not change any of them because they are the reason that I am who I am today. They are also the reasons that I decided to get back in school. The reasons are to make a better life for myself and my loved ones; to set an example that it is never too late to go back to school, and to meet new types of people. I decided to go back to school to make a better life for myself and my loved ones. To get a decent paying job now days, you must have some form of higher education. I have done some shady things in my past and now I am trying to do it the right way for my loved ones. Without my help, my loved ones would struggle to make ends meet and I do not want them to struggle. This way they do not struggle as bad and once I get my degree they will not struggle at all. Another reason I decided to go back to school is to set an example that it is never too late to go back to school. The younger generations think that once you reach a certain age that it is too late to do anything productive with your life. They are asking me why I went back to school and I tell them to better myself. I am proving to them and setting an example at the same time that it is never too late. I am proud to show them that if I can do it that they can do it also. The last reason I decided to go back to school is to meet new types of people. Like I said before I have done some shady things...
