Breezy Air Filters - Redefining the Business

Coming up for air

Breezy Auto Parts has been supplying the North American automobile industry with carburetors and air filters for more than half a century. With revenues of about $100 million a year, it is a significant player in the parts industry. Initially, it supplied carburetors and filters to each of the Big Three domestic manufacturers. When foreign car manufacturers entered North America to set up manufacturing operations, Breezy also developed relationships with the newcomers. It redesigned some of its products to fit the foreign models. It also introduced electronic data interchange (EDI) to support just-in-time deliveries to all of its customers. As a result, it successfully realized its original corporate vision of becoming North America’s leading supplier of carburetors and air filters, a position it has occupied ever since.

For the past 30 years, Breezy has counted on steady customers and steady revenues. The past two years, however, have raised significant concerns about the company’s future. The price of crude oil has been soaring as have gas prices at the pump. There have been temporary dips in price, but the overall trend is unmistakable: it will be far more expensive to drive in the future. As a result, car sales have flattened and in some cases declined. This is especially true of the big gas guzzling SUVs upon which the North American industry had staked its future. But the slump is affecting pretty much all makes and models except for hybrids and the newly introduced Brainy Car. The contraction is even affecting the Asian and European car manufacturers that have located in North America.

In the past, Breezy could always count on respectable profit margins, but this is no longer the case. Sales are…...

Breezy Case

...This case analysis explores the possibility of Breezy, a leading supplier of carburators and air filters in North America, the possibility of developing offshore busines in countries where car manufacturing is growing. The report is structured as follows: First, there are five important questions that Breezy must consider and ask itself before developing a relationship with a new customer. After Breezy decides to go offshore, it will have to go through the negotiating process, which involves five steps. Breezy then, must have capabilities of how an offshore business is organized, consider the many different costs and risks involved in the implementation and decide how it will finance the project. The report also talks about how Breezy will have to modify its corporate strategy. Finally, the report concludes with the best reccomendation for Breezy to maintain its competitive advantage. 1. In exploring the possibility of developing a relationship with offshore car manufacturers, what questions should Breezy be asking? a) Who are the suppliers of carburators and air filters that Breezy will be competing against? This is an important question when conducting an external analysis of the players in the Industry because Breezy will be able to design a strategy that will make their products different from competitors. b) What are the car manufacturers human, financial, physical and organizational resources and capabilities? Breezy should be asking and investigating the firms......

Filter Bubble

...Brandon Voelker Team #5 Article 1: How to Burst the “Filter Bubble’’ that Protects Us from Opposing Views Date: November 29, 2013 The article on how to burst our ‘’Filter Bubble’’ is actually a very interesting phenomenon due to the fact it is actually full of very good information that is supported with testimonials. In 2011 Eli Pariser found that the way two people googled the same term received different answers was because of what they had beliefs in. Research has showed Pariser that people are more likely to use information or read information that they agree with. The use of social media and how they can filter things has developed a problem due to the fact now people only view the content that they want to hear or say. Eduardo Graells-Garrido, Mounia Lalmas, and Daniel Quercia at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona have used Yahoo to try to burst the filter bubble by trying to find things that people do agree on even if they do have opposing views on strong topics. By doing this they have gathered that people are shown many more ideas, people, and opinions than they would ever experience by keeping their filter bubbles. Why this is being so successful is due to the fact that people are still using their own interests to be exposed other opinions and interests. The case study that they found the most information and productivity was with the abortion case. They chose to do their study in Chile one of the most restrictive anti-abortion countries in the...

Air Pollution

...Air Pollution Air pollution in Egypt is a real, harmful and serious problem. It is caused by a wide variety of things. From these causes is the great amount of smoke that come from chimneys of factories that were built near the cities as it release great amount of harmful, poisonous, black smoke which is quickly spread in the air and change its color into black. Also the black color of car exhaust has a serious, bad effect on human's respiration and which unfortunately we breeze it daily as we walk on the streets. This car exhaust causes many horrible diseases in the human lungs and many other organs in the human body. In addition to all the means of transportation like buses and many others in Egypt that increases the rate of the black smoke in the air. All these effects affect mostly the houses which surround the streets and near chimneys as they can be easily polluted by this smoke. Such effects can easily help to increase the percent of viruses in the air and affect the human's health. Although the filters of the factories chimneys help to reduce the amount of smoke in the air, they are not used in the right way and sometimes they are not used at all. Aside from all of the usual and attempted supposed solutions, some real solutions, if implemented, would actually help reduce the air pollution problem. These solutions fall under the following title: Pollution Reduction Strategies. The set of proposed solutions was contributed by the Environmental Protection Agency......

Filter Bubbles

...When referring to filter bubbles I had thought it would be some sort of tool that you, as an individual, would have control over. Some tool that would allow you to filter what you would like to see, and what you would not like to see as you search through sites on the web. However, filter bubbles is something that you do not have any control over. A filter bubble is a tool that each browser, either it be Facebook, Netflix, or even Google, will filter out things you typically do not browse through. It controls what you can and cannot see based on what each browser is seeing you watching or looking for. Pariser said “There is no standard Google anymore.”, and that was where he drew me. It allowed me to see how different the internet is becoming. There are so many risks when it comes to the internet, and you hear that daily. This is moving us to a world where technology is basically controlling our lives, and it's not challenging us. This tool is letting us be comfortable with what we are used to, and we don't get to decide what we want to see or not see because of these filters.. I actually did not even realize the severity of these filter bubbles. I did notice how I wasn't seeing more and more of these acquaintances I have via Facebook. I basically looked right past it, and thought that was just what Facebook did. I didn't realize how in-control these filter bubbles are becoming. Seeing Pariser compare his friends Google searches of the same search, and noticing the......

Perceptual Filters

...4/25/16 PL101 Taking Control of Perception Filters Throughout life, people go through their day to day schedules seeing and perceiving just about every experience in a “certain light.” A light in which shade is brighter, darker or just “blah” depending on that person’s overall self-awareness, mood or attitude. An individual’s mood or “filter,” as I like to call it, acts as a pair of glasses that can literally transform all of your surroundings and how you experience them. Your mood and emotions (for the most part) determine the “type” of glasses you are perceiving your reality through. If an individual is angry, their “angry glasses” will be slipped on, seemingly subconsciously, and the “energy” around them immediately loses its value and becomes diminished in a sense. Think about it, have you ever woken up, and as you were getting out of bed you stubbed your toe, and the rest of your day seemed to be more aggravating than usual? Maybe your commute to work seemed slower and more agonizing, or when you finally got to work your boss asked you to pick up an extra task because someone else didn’t show up that day. In other words, everything seemed more tedious to the point where you are just “not in the mood.” It is not that, all of the sudden, on that specific day the world changed its perception and attitude towards you, but because you changed your perception and attitude towards the world. The most dangerous part about these perception filters is that it is very hard to......

Filter Innovations

...Case #1 - Filter Innovations Inc. Critical Issues 1.) How to comply with government regulations so that FII can sustain their corporate goals and vision of being an innovative leader within their industry. 2.) How to effectively brand FII with the MBR technology within the scope of their current market so that they can sustain their existing customer centric competitive advantage. 3.) FII is behind innovation due to managerial decision of only allocation 5% of EBIT towards R&D. Analysis The waste water management industry is experiencing significant growth around the world and expected to be worth $348 billion by 2010. The opportunities in North America are growing due to rising population, government regulations and the “Green” movement; therefore there will be a much higher demand for MBR technology. While the government regulations help drive demand, they can also hinder operations by making existing product lines obsolete. New government regulations are being implemented which is putting pressure on FII to invest in newer technology that is in compliance with these regulations. This is evident due to the fact that their income has reduced by $97,899. A new opportunity to invest in Membrane Biological Reactors (MBR) would allow FII to meet these government regulations. The new technology would be replacing some of their existing product lines. MBR would be able to treat biological wastewater in addition to ground and industrial process water,......
