TIMER & COUNTER FOR LIGHT EMITTING DIODES

PREPARED BY:
COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, FKEKK
SEMESTER 3 SESSION 2012/2013

1.0 OBJECTIVE * To study the structure of the basic electronic components and functionality of the timer 555 with some basic application in electronics circuit. * To provide practical experience in PCB making, soldering, trouble-shooting and applying the components.

2.0 COMPONENTS/MATERIALS * Soldering Tools-(Solder iron, solder wire, sucker) * Power supply DC 9V (or batteries) * Oscilloscope * Digital Multimeter * Resistors: 4.7 Ω, 2 Unit * Resistor 1K Ω, 2 Unit * Resistor 390 Ω, 1 Unit * Variable resistor: 500k Ω to 2MΩ, 1 Unit (Preset) * Capacitors : 10nF ceramic, 1 Unit * Capacitors: 10μF , 25 volt Electrolytes, 1 Unit * Light Emitting Diodes 8 Units * CMOS 4017, 1 Unit * 555 timer 1C, 1 Unit * 8-pin DIL socket for 1C, 1 Unit * 16-pin DIL socket for 1C, 1 Unit * ON/OFF switch, 1 Unit * Printed Circuit Board, 1 Unit

3.0 THEORY
The Light Emitting Diodes circuit in Figure 1, controls 8 Light Emitting Diodes. The timing sequence is generated using a CMOS 4017 decade counter and a 555 timer. The Light Emitting Diodes will be on. The complete cycle time can be adjusted with variable resistor.
The 555/556 timer is one of the most versatile and popular chips made. It is very inexpensive and easy to use. There are two basic modes of operation. 1: Monostable Mode and 2: Astable Mode. In the monostable mode the 555 timer acts as a "one - shot". It would be used for the purpose of obtaining a one pulse of variable length. In the astable mode the 555 will retrigger itself to output a…...

How Leaders Develop Leaders

... at the Learning Center. The three-day workshops were facilitated by Adams and two outside faculty, Phil Mirvis and Ram Charan. Participants worked on the elements of a teachable point of view: ideas, values, edge, and energy. For each element, we attempted to seed ideas with participants and compel them to cultivate their own points of view. First, they examined their own experience in the context of Shell and their units. The facilitators presented videotaped benchmarks of leaders at other companies that had faced situations similar to the one at Shell. Those “video benchmarks” were taken from a database that had compiled during the previous two years. The video benchmarks feature interviews and footage shot in internal meetings at the benc hmarked companies, showing their leaders in action. For the Shell workshop, we culled relevant examples from the database. After the benchmarking , participants developed solutions for their own situations and coached each other. The result was 200 leaders that developed teachable points of view and created (or refined) their leadership stories. The stories became powerful tools for leading continuous change by detailing why leaders and the business needed to change. That filled a void for many leaders at Shell. Says Adams, “Many leaders can use the Shell business model to say in the language of finance, ‘Here is the gap between where we are and where we should be.” But Adams cautions, “That isn’t a case for action that touches......

In between each circuit you can have 30-90 second rest as you need. Drink water between rounds as you feel is necessary, but not too much, as this may make you feel sick. free week workouts WHat Will i Need For tHe circuits? • You must be warmed up before starting • Equipment (as used in the exercise photos) • All exercises need to be read and understood • A timer (I use my iphone) NOTE: I recommend going for a 5-minute fast walk prior to training. Being warm helps to lubricate joints, keep muscles safe for exercise and decrease injury risk.
