Traditional manager: 1. Think of self as the boss,2. Follows organizational chain of command. 3. Works within a set organizational structure. 4. Makes most decisions alone, 5. Tries to master one major discipline, 6. Demands long hours and hard work.
New manager:: 1. Thinks of self as team leader, coach, consultant, with enyone necessary to get the job done, 3. Changes organizational structure in response to market changes (flexible,adaptable). 4.invites others to join in decision making. 5.shares information with others 6. Tries to master broad array of disciplines(subject areas). 7. Demands results from the employees(its not necessarily how long you work, the managers wants to see results.
Managerial skills:::
Technical skills;; are the skills that have to do with a particular job that you are related. Conceptual skills;;the ability to see the big picture in buss wich means being able to see how the different part of a business interact and depend on each other. Interpersonal skills;;how you communicate with other people. Communication skills;; the way in wich a person is able to send out information to others. Political skills;;being able to efficiently network with other people. Decision making skills;; analyzing different sets of information that a manager is face with and making a decision making a decision baed upon the information that is presented to you. Negotiation skills;; trying to get different groups of people who have different interest in different agendas to reach a compromise.. in a compromise each group is suppose to give up something that they really wanted.

In Scotland Allan worked as a cooper, a cooper is someone that makes or repair wooden barrels and tubes. Later on in Allan’s young life he found himself involved in Chartism, this led to an arrest warrant to be issued for Allan. Pinkerton fled to the United States in 1842 and settled down in the city of Chicago. Allen Pinkerton stayed in Chicago for only a short while, he eventually moved to a town called Dundee, this place was located in a county called Kane, there he started his own cooper shop. Allan was asked to do occasional jobs for the Kane county sheriff office and he became very good at detective work and tracking down criminal. The Kane county sheriff department eventually hired Pinkerton as a deputy sheriff. At the age of thirty-five Allan Pinkerton was hired by the Cook County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy, along with that job he was also contracted by the federal government and numerous other private employers to protect their best interest. Mulally has constantly demonstrated this by communicating to all the employees and not just upper level executives about what he wanted to accomplish. The role of leadership is the act of motivating a group of people towards a common goal. Allan Mulally has recognized communication as one of the key elements of the company’s success.
