A Manager’s Woes 1. Managers must approve all checks over $100. In electronics, most of the items are over $100 and every time a customer writes a check the manager has to approve the check. a. Waiting for the manager to get checks approved is a total waste of time for the customer and very unproductive for the employee. One of the ways that could help management to get over this problem is to reengineer the whole business. The goal for this department is to achieve better service and quality. This could work by merging information processing work into real work by making the employee to collect checks and to make them responsible for accepting those check, and this way they will speed up with the sales and have happier customers. 2. Customers pay for their purchase in the electronics department and then have to walk through the regular checkout lines to leave the store. b. Customers that already paid for their product should not have to walk through the regular checkout lines because they already paid for it. The best way to work this out is to organized around outcomes. One person should be in charge of selling the item and to make the customer leave quietly and peace without having to walk through the other checkout lines. 3. It takes an average of 10 minutes for a manager to come to the electronics department to approve a check. c. 10 minutes for a customer to be waiting will make the customer to never come back again. Managers should work faster or have other employees to make the decisions for them.
