V-J Kiss

...12-2-2012 The “V-J day in Time Square” picture taken by Alfred Eisentaedit on August 14, 1945 the medium of this art work is poloraid the style is Iconic the technique Mr. Alfred used is photography. The picture has captured American sailor Glenn McDuffie kissing a woman in a white dress on Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) in Times Square, New York City, on August 14, 1945. The photograph was published a week later in Life magazine among many photographs of celebrations around the country that were presented in a twelve-page section titled Victory. A two-page spread faces three other kissing poses among celebrators in Washington, D.C., Kansas City, and Miami opposite Eisenstaedt's, which was given a full-page display. Kissing was a favorite pose encouraged by media photographers of service personnel during the war, but Eisenstaedt was photographing a spontaneous event that occurred in Times Square as the announcement of the end of the war on Japan was made by U.S. President Harry S. Truman at seven o'clock. Similar jubilation spread quickly with the news. Because Eisenstaedt was photographing rapidly changing events during the celebrations he did not have an opportunity to get the names and details. The photograph does not clearly show the faces of either person involved in this embrace and several people have claimed to be the subjects. The photograph was shot just south of 45th Street looking north from a location where Broadway and Seventh Avenue converge. Soon......

...Time is said to be eternal. It is said that it has neither a beginning nor an end. Yet men are able to measure it as years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds. They have also given meanings to the words – past, present and future. True, time has a meaning. It moves. What was yesterday is not today. What is today will not be tomorrow. Yesterday is gone. Today is and tomorrow is yet to come. Yet time is said to have no holiday. It exists always. The entire creation moves on according to a time pattern. There is birth, growth and death. There is time for everything. Plants flower and give fruits. Seasons come according to time. A child is born, grows into boyhood, adolescence, youth, middle age and old age according to age and time. Every movement of creation is linked with time. One cannot grow paddy in a month nor can a child become an adult in a year. Everything is fixed to a time-frame. Time is a free force. It does not wait for any one. It is commonly said that time and tide waits for no man. Time is money. A minute not usefully spent is an eternal loss. You can never get back the lost minute. One has to strike the iron when it is hot. The time flies and never returns. If you waste time it wastes you. ‘Time is the best medicine’, says Ovid. It is said that time heals all wounds and it even heals what reason cannot. All human beings are emotional. When negative emotions like fear, anger, envy and jealousy overtake them, they lose reason and act in haste......

A Kiss

...A kiss In modern day society and western culture, seeing two people intertwined in a kiss happens on a daily basis without any second thought. It is an action that almost everyone engages in at some point in their life. However, a kiss can have multiple meanings, as shown in the pictures above. A kiss can have many cultural connotations depending on the cultural context and can mean a variety of things including the expression of love, passion, affection, friendship, or good luck. In each of the pictures above, a different emotion is being expressed, but the bottom line remains that a kiss knows no color, no race, no sexual orientation, or class. A kiss is universal. In the first photo, a viewer may notice the black and white couple first, or the fact that the photograph was taken in black and white, but it is obvious that the main focus of this picture is the kiss. The first feelings that may be invoked would be a feeling of love because that’s what a kiss is commonly known for. After reading the caption underneath the photo, the kiss itself takes on an entirely new meaning. This photo was taken in the spring of 1965, in Washington, D.C., of Richard and Mildred Delores Loving, an interracial couple defying the idea of right and wrong as defined by the Racial Integrity Act of 1959 in the Common wealth of Virginia. When you look at the photo, you notice the man is pulling the woman into her as if he wants to protect her from the harm and pain she might......

Prelude to a Kiss

...Prelude to a Kiss took place during the spring and summer in the late 1980s. The costumes that were worn reflected the time period and the season. The costumes were not futuristic or from the past, but rather fairly modern clothes. They were clothes that you might see someone wearing today. Since the play took place in the summer and spring, none of the costumes included anything heavy, such as coats or winter clothes. The costumes gave clues about the characters personalities and lives. The costumes were appropriate for each character. Mr. Boyle wore a suit, which reflected that he was a working man from the middle to upper class. Mrs. Boyle’s costume was that of a mother. The costume was not revealing and she was always put together. The old man, who was played by a female, had special effect makeup on which made the character of the old man look very real. The makeup made the actor look bald and wrinkly. Without the makeup, the character of the old man would not have been as believable and lifelike. The guests at the bar all had on costumes that were appropriate for night life. For example, the women at the bar were all dressed in dresses or skirts and heals. At the wedding, the characters costumes were all appropriate wedding attire, such as suits and dresses. Rita wore a typical long white wedding dress and had a bouquet of flowers. The minister seemed to be somewhat of a hippie or free spirit and her costume reflected on her personality. She had on a flowing shirt and...

First Kiss Memoir

...really coming, absolutely nothing. From the moment a young girl sees her first romantic comedy she dreams of her first kiss. I thought of it constantly, probably more than a little girl should think of such content but I couldn’t help it. When most of my friends wanted to play Barbies and pretend like were best friends headed to a party I wanted to pretend we were a couple meeting after the party. I would even practice on some of my willing friends. Needless to say I didn’t have that many friends that wanted to stay for sleepovers. Although my intent wasn’t to give lesbian esc vibes it was nonetheless to get as close to the real thing as possible. I was in such a hurry to feel something other than the hugs my mom gave me before she left on a plane before she would return to her job in northern Virginia while leaving me with my dad and my five other siblings. I would often look at my mom and want to be just like her. She was so beautiful with her long curly hair that she wore mostly straightened and her clear caramel complexion that complemented my dad’s dark skin that contrasted with his hazel green eyes. But most importantly she got to kiss her husband every single day. I dreamed of being pretty like her, I wanted her biracial undertones and although I had long curly hair I wanted the option of wearing it straightened and most importantly I wanted someone to kiss every single day. When my mom was finally able to get a job in Georgia right down the street from Buford which......

The Kiss of Judah

...The Kiss of Judas(Betrayal of Christ) by Giotto By Christine Griffin [pic] Christine Griffin Kiss of Judas by Giotto The most pertinent painter of all time is Giotto di Bondone. He was an Italian painter and architect from Florence. Giotto is know for contributing many works to the Italian Renaissance. Giotto was typically recognized as one of the smartest artist when it came to religious subjects. Giotto was the type of painter who lived at a time where everyone had a different view on the human mind. Giotto's emergence started the beginning of the Renaissance. Giotto was discovered by the father of art named Cimabue. In a sense Giotto was Cimabue's under study. He watched Giotto from a tender age and watched how serious art was to him and how smoothly new ideas came across his mind. This painter of 14th century Italian painting was known for his set of 39 frescoes that had a biblical context to it. Giotto during his time was going beyond the Byzantine empire style of work. He created artwork that had humanistic ideas and seemed very hands on and life like. He even went along and created three dimensional artwork because that was how his mind worked. He was not the typical artist. He knew how to do above and beyond most artists and looked at things very precisely. By doing so Giotto was far ahead of his time. The most religious piece of artwork by this painter is the Kiss of Judas. Every time this piece of art is mentioned another name......

Kiss Me, Kate Critique

...Kiss Me, Kate I was in attendance on October 22, 2015 for opening night of the Kiss Me, Kate play in Lyell B. Clay, which is located on the first floor of the Creative Arts Center. The purpose of this play was to show demonstrate love prevailing. I believe that they are also trying to show that you never really know what you have until its gone. At the beginning of the play, Fred Graham and Lillie Vanessi were divorced but share a kiss in the dressing room, which leaves a thought in the audiences’ head that they are still in love. However, things go south when flowers from Graham are mistakenly delivered to Vanessi rather that to Lois Lane. Vanessi gets excited and Graham doesn’t know what to do so he goes along with it. Soon after, Lillie Vanessi figures out that the flowers were not hers and causes havoc for the play The Taming of the Shrew that Graham, Vanessi, and others were taking part in. The student actors did a magnificent job and really took their talents to a level I’ve never seen before in a live production. I thought the play was a bit confusing at first because of the play being inside of another play, but once that was made clear, it was pretty straightforward. The design was very clever, and I thought the costumes were very unique. The attempt of the play to show how their love prevailed through all the action was very successful. There was this feeling that they should be together throughout. The musical sections sounded exquisite and that is a......

A Mir Kiss

...A Mir Kiss Case Analysis: Organizational Behavior and Culture Davenport University 01/09/11 I. The Situation: In preparation for an expedition to Mars, a joint international studies program, Institute for Biomedical Problems (IBMP), set up a replica in Moscow where three international researchers were joined with four Russian cosmonauts. The three researches were from Japan, Canada, and Austria. None of the participants spoke English as their first language, however they each communicated in English at varying levels of proficiency during their stay. The replica was no larger than the size of a train car. As part of the study, the researchers were asked to join the Russian cosmonauts for 110 days, after the four Russians had already completed almost half of their 240 days in isolation. Only one female, Judith Lapierre, was invited to participate in the experiment. She had a PhD in public health and social medicine, and had previously conducted isolation research in Antarctica. It should also be mentioned that this would be her fourth trip to Russia enabling her to learn the language. Lapierre claims that the Japanese and Austrian participants viewed her as something favorable. Lapierre created a comfortable environment by rearranging furniture, hanging posters and putting down a tablecloth on the kitchen table. Lapierre explained that the Russians only viewed their environment as something to be endured. It was during a New Year’s Eve party, when an event......

The Last Kiss

...Notes on “The Last Kiss “Film! An interpersonal conflict is a disagreement or some kind of differing opinions, thoughts, or actions among two or more of us people. I have chosen the film called “The Last Kiss “This movie was actually a good movie and a movie based on real happenings that go on everyday amongst people. The couple Anna and Michael was not married but were expecting a child and throughout the movie we could see questionable thoughts, concern, tension, and all of that causes us at times to feel overwhelmed with stuff which is what we don’t want to happen. This couple was fixing to have a baby possibly get married and in his eyes he I guess was scared and in question but still at the very least had no right to do what he did! There should have been communication, togetherness, compromise, and then things could have worked out so much better instead they fought, there were hurt feelings, anger, and a situation that went totally sour when it shouldn’t have. It wouldn’t have if both would have been honest with their feelings from the start and if temptation had not played a huge factor with Michael. If Jenna and Michael had taken a step back during all of the new stuff that was happening in their life especially the baby bit then they could of taken one day at a time and got through it together. Communication will always play a big factor in any type of relationship and can help keep one positive. Without compromise and communication we will continue to......

A Mir Kiss Final Exam Case Study

...A Mir Kiss? Case prepared by Steven L. McShane, Graduate School of Management, The University of Western Australia A team of psychologists at Moscow's Institute for Biomedical Problems (IBMP) wanted to learn more about the dynamics of long-term isolation in space. This knowledge would be applied to the International Space Station, a joint project of several countries that would send people into space for more than six months. It would eventually include a trip to Mars taking up to three years. IBMP set up a replica of the Mir space station in Moscow. They then arranged for three international researchers from Austria, Canada, and Japan to spend 110 days isolated in a chamber the size of a train car. This chamber joined a smaller chamber where four Russian cosmonauts had already completed half of their 240 days of isolation. This was the first time an international crew was involved in the studies. None of the participants spoke English as their first language, yet they communicated throughout their stay in English at varying levels of proficiency. Judith Lapierre was the only female in the experiment. Along with a PhD in public health and social medicine, the French-Canadian researcher studied space sociology at the International Space University in France, and conducted isolation research in the Antarctic. This was her fourth trip to Russia, where she had learned the language. The mission was supposed to have a second female participant from the Japanese space program...
