10 Ways to Save Electricity
Did you know that according to a World Bank report, roughly 40 percent of residences in India are without electricity?
But, in a way, concepts like 'power cuts' and 'load-shedding' are not new. In fact, they have become an everyday routine. People in some parts of India live without electricity for 6-10 hours every day. From the bottom of my heart, I feel we Indians don't deserve such ill-treatment. The only way to stop this menace is to save electricity. So, here are 10 ways I think shall prove very effective in saving electricity... * Whenever you feel that you won't be using your computer for about 15-20 minutes, please take the efforts to switch off the computer monitor. This will slim down your electricity bill significantly. If you turn off your monitor for a minute, a bulb can be lit in some remote part of India for about 2 minutes. * Well, if you have a computer, you may also have a T.V set. If you are a person who hangs on to only 1 programme, you can put off the T.V. during ad commercials. For that, you must know the duration of the interval. This will ensure that you don't miss out anything of the programme! * If you reside at an above sea-level region, minimize the use of fans. You can enjoy pleasant breezes by keeping all your doors and windows open. * Try to switch off all your electrical appliances for at least half an hour every day. * If you are a millionaire, go solar. Try solar water heaters, solar cookers, solar cells, etc. And if you are not a millionaire, use renewable resources as much as possible. * The most famous sentence I have ever heard - SWITCH OFF ALL FANS AND LIGHTS WHEN NOT REQUIRED. * Don't take the above advice very seriously. You don't need to turn off a fan if you are going to use it after a minute or so and vice versa. If you do so, you will end up spending more electricity!…...

...Nowadays, the electricity exerts a significant influence on individual's life, not only because the high demand of production in each country, also the diversity of peoples' lives. Therefore, the raw materials, such as oil, coal and gas, are highly demanded in the world. Known to all, however, these materials which are mentioned above are non-renewable resources, and their reserves will certainly, continuously and greatly decrease, so, exactly it is vital to reverse the irrational use of non-renewable resources. In recent years, in virtue of the greatly decreasing of non-renewable resources, scientists and researchers are accelerating the development of the Green Energy, such as wind, wave and solar energy, strenuously making the new green energy more acceptable and popular among individuals, countries and the world. "For example, Renewable energy is seen by the UK government as one vital component of a climate change strategy, for which it has set a notional target of 10% of electricity production (Department of Trade and Industry, 1999)."( Citizen versus consumer: challenges in the UK green power market S.L. Batley, D. Colbourne, P.D. Fleming, P. Urwin). But, there are some critical problems which people cannot ignore, such as the green energies' exploration, technology, exploitation and prices. Consequently, how to explore and use the green energy, instead of the non-renewable energy, to the most degree and enable the green energy to be affordable to the public have become...

...10 Ways to Avoid a Heart Attack A heart attack is known as a myocardial infarction. This occurs when the heart muscle is damaged or does not receive enough oxygen. Many cardiac related problems occur due to blockages in arteries that carry purified blood away from the heart to different parts of the body. Another cause is the formation of blood clots. Very often, it is quite difficult to differentiate between a heart attack and heartburn. The common signs of a heart attack are a tightness, pain, or discomfort in the chest. Sweating, nausea, and vomiting that are accompanied by intense pressure in the chest. A radiating and intense pain in the chest that extends from the chest to the left arm. A shortness of breath for more than a few minutes. If you have any of the above you must consult the doctor or go to the emergency rooms. If you even think you are having a heart attack you must call for a cardiac care ambulance, and put under your tongue a sorbitrate or chew an aspirin. If you are allergic to aspirin don't take one. At the hospital care will include rapid thrombolysis, cardiac catheterization, and angioplasty. They will also administer intravenously clot busting medications. The risk factors for a heart attack include: smoking, diabetes, high levels of cholesterol, hypertension, family history of heart diseases, atherosclerosis, lack of exercise, obesity, and fast foods. If not properly controlled or harnessed, can result in serious danger to those who use it. The risks with electric power can be divided into two categories: direct and indirect. The direct danger is the damage that the power itself can do to the human body, such as enabling someone to breathe or regular heartbeats, or burns. The indirect dangers of electricity include the damages that can result to the human body like something caused by electric shock, an explosion, or a fire. Electricity at any voltage can be dangerous and should always be handled with caution. An electric shock can occur upon contact of a human or animal body with any source of voltage high enough to cause enough current flow through the muscles or nerves. 10 Ways It Wastes Money

...10 ways IT wastes money on development Date: June 29th, 2009 Author: Justin James To deliver value, IT departments must keep a tight rein on how they use their budget - and that includes development efforts. Justin James cites some of the most common areas where IT throws its development bucks down the drain. Many IT departments walk a fine line between being a needed cost center, a necessary evil, and an absolute money pit. In a few rare occasions, they’re able to deliver enough value to become profit centers. One of the key factors in determining whether an IT department is delivering ROI has to do with the development efforts occurring within that department. Here are 10 of the most common ways IT departments waste money on development. 1: Communication problems Communication issues are one of the biggest causes of project failure. These issues are magnified with internal projects. Just because the “customer” works in the same building and has their paychecks signed by the same person as you doesn’t mean there won’t be communication problems. In fact, internally facing projects are often worse than projects for paying customers because internal customers don’t have to adhere to a contract, and no tangible value is placed upon the work. In these situations, there is little incentive for the customers to work well with you, and if communication breaks down, they complain about how “IT is stonewalling us.” The result is wasted time and money due to things being......

41 Smart Ways to Save Money

...41 SMART WAYS TO SAVE MONEY PRESENTED BY WWW.82INVEST.COM www.82invest.com One of the quickest ways to improve your finances is to reduce your expenses and find more ways to save money. This book is a compilation of various money saving tips that have been published over the years. 1. COMBINE YOUR CABLE, INTERNET AND TELEPHONE SERVICE. Companies now offer combined services that not only cost less, but offer the convenience of a single bill. Called a Triple Play Package (Cable, Internet, and Phone), these combined service deals can save you a bundle. 2. SLOW DOWN YOUR INTERNET SERVICE. I went to the slower internet service option with my cable company and saved $15 per month. And I haven’t noticed a difference when surfing the Net. 3. CONVERT TO A GAS WATER HEATER. They are more efficient and will save you money in the long run. 4. REFINANCE YOU MORTGAGE. If you can reduce your interest rate by one percent or more, it is often beneficial to refinance. This is particularly true for those with high rates due to less than stellar credit scores. If your score has improved, you may qualify for a better rate. I would start by asking your current mortgage lender about lower rates. 5. GET YOUR BOOKS AND DVDS FROM THE LIBRARY. I love books and read every day. While I buy some of the books I read, most come from the library. Simply put, it’s hard to beat free. Many libraries now have movies on DVD that can be checked out. If your library offers this service,...

The Best Way to Save Protect Endanger Red Species

...endangered species; for example, saving wildlife habitat and joining a conservation organization. Although there is many ways to protect the animals, the most important way is how we ensure our next generation plays a strong role in this issue, which I will discuss below. As teachers and parents we have to encourage our students to protect the animals. We can make a trip to a zoo or start a research project to explain to our students why we have to save the animals by showing a specific example, such as the tiger. Then, we need to give them statistics to demonstrate the threat to tiger populations. According to National Geographic writer Caroline Alexander (2014) In Asia’s 13 tiger countries, there are less than 4000 tigers dispersed among them. (Alexander 2014). Although the author traveled to many tiger habitats in Asia, like remote forests, tropical woodlands and mangrove swamps, she never saw a tiger because of the animal’s “legendarily secretive nature”. However, the other reason for not see tigers is that tiger landscapes don't have many tigers (Alexander, 2014). Also, she said that people who have survived a tiger attack say that it “came from nowhere” (Alexander, 2014). Studying the danger of the extinction tigers will encourage young people to understand how tigers impact our life and what the consequence will be when the tiger is extinct. The most significant way to involve our children in saving animals is by using technology because children love technology. We......

Electricity

...------------------------------------------------- Electricity Lightning is one of the most dramatic effects of electricity. Electricity is a general term encompassing a variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge. These include many easily recognizable phenomena, such as lightning, static electricity, and the flow of electrical current in an electrical wire. In addition, electricity encompasses less familiar concepts such as the electromagnetic field and electromagnetic induction. The word is from the New Latin ēlectricus, "amber-like"coined in the year 1600 from the Greek ήλεκτρον (electron) meaning amber(hardened plant resin), because static electricity effects were produced classically by rubbing amber. Usage In general usage, the word "electricity" adequately refers to a number of physical effects. In scientific usage, however, the term is vague, and these related, but distinct, concepts are better identified by more precise terms: * Electric charge: a property of some subatomic particles, which determines their electromagnetic interactions. Electrically charged matter is influenced by, and produces, electromagnetic fields. * Electric current: a movement or flow of electrically charged particles, typically measured in amperes. * Electric field: an influence produced by an electric charge on other charges in its vicinity. * Electric potential: the capacity of an electric field to do work on an electric charge,......

10 Weeks to Save Democracy

...Response to ‘ “10 Weeks to Save Democracy” before 2 Million People Are Wiped Off Electoral Register’ Article Recently it has become evident to the public that alterations to the electoral registration process have been made by the government. Previously, the ‘head of household’ (or equivalent) would register all the applicable members of family onto the voting system. Now on the other hand, the system has been altered to fit in with the 21st century Britain and every person of age and wanting to vote must individually register themselves. On one hand, this is a great idea. There are many flaws in the voting system and tightening up regulations to expel as many of these flaws as possible must be encouraged and embraced- to an extent. The new Individual Electoral Registration process will help ensure that people have more control over the process and also increase the accuracy and legitimacy of the system. Moreover, it creates a sense of trust- which is lacking- in the fairness of the elections. However, the issue that the article is stressing is the fact that this new process is being hurried by the government and taking people by surprise. According to the article, “anyone who hasn’t re-registered or whose councils are unable to match with tax or benefit records will be wiped from the list in December” which, as the article outlines, will have incredible impacts on a large portion of our voting population. Although the refined process states that its intentions are......

Ten Ways to Save Money in a Recession

...Ten Ways to Save Money in a Recession 1. Reduce disposable income spending and divert to pay off high interest debt. You should NEVER maintain balances on credit cards, this is a sign of financial stupidity. It's not weakness, it's dumb to believe you have money at your disposal in the form of a 20% loan from a credit card. Reducing disposable income means eating out less, purchasing less unnecessary items such as news clothes or shoes. It means downgrading your cable package, internet, movies to movie rentals, and prime steak to hamburgers. 2. Don't try to sell your house for 2004 prices. Too many people are still in a house that they can barely afford because they are trying to sell it for more than anyone will buy it in today's market. If you can live without selling then you should wait 2-3 years before downgrading the home. Let it appreciate the value it's lost over the past 2 years. 3. Find a cheap/free living situation. Move in with your parents/relatives/friends if you can. Students may want to skip the move out stage by a year until they find a job and have a nice savings cushion. 4. Additional jobs. If time permits find another part-time job. This of course, is not necessary if you reduce your spending per month. People who get part time jobs usually want to maintain standard of living and therefore work themselves to death to pay for it. 5. Increase your savings, and with those, invest in a low market. PRices for investments are at an all time low, you can......

10 Ways to Build a Business Culture Like Apple

...10 Ways to Build a Business Culture like Apple One of the big advantages of being an entrepreneur and starting your company from scratch is that you get to set the culture, which is much easier than changing the culture of an existing business. The challenge is how to do it, and how to do it right. Why not learn what you can from companies like Apple, who are leading the way with great growth and a great culture? Jim Stengel, in his latest book “Grow: How Ideals Power Growth and Profit” chronicles a ten-year study of the world’s fifty best businesses, including Apple, and concludes that those who centered their businesses on a culture of improving people’s lives had a growth rate triple that of competitors in their categories. Here are ten culture building principles, adapted for startups from this study, that I believe have the same potential for tripling the growth and survival potential of your entrepreneurial efforts: 1. Communicate your dream and operationalize it. Mission statements tend to be narrow, business oriented statements such as “Be the leader in customer satisfaction.” Your dream and your company culture needs to be outward focused with a higher good, extending beyond the company’s financial interests. 2. Be clear about what you stand for, inside and outside your company. Your personal priorities, values, and principles set the culture. The best way to be clear about them is to regularly engage team members, customers, and suppliers. People follow......

Listen to English songs. Read the lyrics as you listen to the songs. Listen to your favorite songs and sing along to them. 4. Start a blog in English. If you are a fan of movies, start a blog and write about your favorite movies, your favorite characters, what you think could be improved in the movie, what new movies to expect next year, etc. Besides blogging, try joining online forums; engage in online chatting and more. 5.
